According to rennlist forums, this is the reason for the wipers moving: If the wipers set too long in one position, then the rubber conforms to that position and you have to replace the blades sooner. A lot of these cars never go out in the rain, as such the wipers can stay in one position a very long time without this feature.

Man it's so ironic that the 'go anywhere, do everything supreme daily" is such a special edition. My spicy take is that I prefer versions of cars like this on the road vs trying to use ultra-track-focused cars on the road.

My MK7 GTI did the wiper thing, and of all of the cars I’ve owned I never went so long without replacing blades as with that car. I’m pretty sure my set of Bosch wiper blades lasted 4-5 years on that car. Granted, I am in Southern California so they don’t get used too often, but the car was outside for basically that entire period of time.

The Porsche 911 Dakar is a responsive and extraordinarily powerful vehicle as it rockets on the road. Here in Utah it just devours the backroads.
