Another great review Deryk. Ever since Scale Trains started, Athearn has stepped up big time. Glad to see another vid from you. I really have to get my butt in gear and upload something. 😅
Have never had a problem with lack of volume on an Athearn.Better than being too quiet. The top speed can be lowered without much trouble.I still prefer Soundtraxx over Lok sound.
Yes I'd rather be able to lower the volume, than not have enough. Sometimes I mute locos cause I want quiet running. It's nice to have the options. And yes...easy to lower the speed.
Hi DG Modelworks: This is one engine thats dear to me. I had the pleasure of riding these engines along the older MU cars on the Long Island Railroad. & Viewed them in Queens New York in or near Sunny side at Hunters Point Avenue right near The number 7 Train subway. I bought so many LIRR custom build trains & engines. What would look great with this MP 15 LIRR MTA MOW work equipment or a local freight or CSX or NS freight trains. This engine impressed me all these cars wow. I'm sold. Excellent video , enjoy your engine.
Glad to see another DG video again! For those interested, the factory Tsunami2 format used inside is their 21PNEM8; this means for people that prefer ESU Loksound or TCS Wowsound, changing the decoder is a matter of just replacing the original decoder. Selling the Tsunami2 is useful for those who want an Athearn spec 21 pin TSU2 with unique sound selections!
That is true...however people need to know that if they switch brands of decoders, they will have to so some programming to get the lighting features to work correctly. Or they can buy the DCC ready version and also add their own brand of decoder, which will require the same amount of programming. I only say that because not everyone like us has the understanding of how all of that works, and then get upset because it's not plug and play. Nice to hear from you man! Thanks for the support, always appreciated.
@@DGModelworks Of course! I own CSXT 1179 from this run and swapping the Tsunami2 for a Loksound was super easy. Buying the T2 version is also convenient as it already comes with twin cube speakers; the DCC ready only has a weight in place of the speaker but that can be replaced with the appropriate Scale Sound Systems setup.
Hey deryk how are you doing buddy I been working on driving I also been working my layout seeing my girl she loves the hobby your awesome man I hope awesome Sunday
The striped plow is AWESOME, great video as always and love the detail on the Athearns, I do wish the number boards lit up but like ya said guess that's for the Athearn 2.0 stuff. The cab interior alone makes me want to buy one of these, that is truly next level!!! Great Video as always buddy, love your content!!! Happy Sunday! -Ken
After seeing your video I jumped over and looked at the roadnames they have, that CSX is really calling my name, I think the in cab detail is what really sold this on me! Love your channel man, good stuff! -Ken@@DGModelworks

This is the first that I've seen it advertised and the first time I've seen it in a loco. I don't know the answer yet, but I'd like to assume that future models will have the new motor. If I find out anymore info, I will be sure to pass it along.
Cool thanks, appreciate it! Now if we could just get Athearn to put the CurrentKeepers in at the factory:) All joking aside I truly love Athearn's product and detail, such a great product and so much new stuff coming out all the time! Have an awesome night and thanks again! -Ken@@DGModelworks
Thanks! Sometimes I mention price....but most hobby shops sell below the MSRP...and many of those have different prices....It's a hard thing to do cause I like to provide the price that you can expect to pay. I'll see if I can do that more often....Thanks for watching and the support! I appreciate it!
