2023 spring Stripers from the kayak! Striped Bass Catch Clean Cook ft.

On this foggy morning, I'm accompanied by Dan from ‪@FishinAccomplished‬ as we search the bay for striped bass. Although we found a good body of fish, they were not easily tricked into hitting the artificial. Dan was able to figure out the bite and really dialed them in while I struggled the entire session to hook and land them. Dan was kind enough to give me a slot-sized keeper and I cooked it up the best way I know how to cook striped bass: galilee-style kebobs.

I have the Old Town MK106 motorized and I never fish standing still, mostly just troll and it is soo much better than casting all day..

when I first moved to long island and fished from shore I fished over there a few times, but I live close to a northshore bay now and have a kayak so havent been down there in a while.

For the second year in a row, the boat won't be running nighttime striper trips, but instead will be doing their twilight combo trip, where you simply bottom fish for fluke until nightfall when they switch over to squid.

Pete.... Several notes: 1) I love trolling. I call it "One long cast." 2) I've got two EASY recipes for the next time you cook. A) Bake filets in a 1/2 bottle of Italian salad dressing. Bake until white and flakey. Has all the seasons and oil in the bottle. Idiot proof and QUICK. B) Cheez-Its..... Crush them up. Put a layer in the glass pan. Metal pan or tin foil works too but I like glass. Baste the filets with melted butter and put on top of bed of Cheez-Its. Bury the filets with more crushed Cheez-Its. Pure a little melted butter over the top. Bake until white and flakey. Delicious and kids LOVE this recipe. If you like spicy..... Use Jalapeño flavored Cheez-Its for mild spicy or some cayenne pepper to up the bite. Easy and QUICK.... Nice fishing. Enjoyed the clip.... AGAIN..

Francus, informative notes...again. thanks! I do need to start giving trolling more time - gotta be more adaptable. I've actually done the salad dressing recipe before and It did turn out pretty good. the cheezits recipe sounds awesome and much simpler for the kids which is important, haha. Nice question wind whats your cut off mark? do you go out 16 mph?

Hey Eddie, my cut-off for the bay is around 14mph which is basically what this morning had towards the end of the trip. In the sound my cutoff is about 10mph. Obviously it also depends a little on what direction the wind is coming from but in general those are my cutoffs

You should be asking Dan on this trip haha. But yeah normally I cast up current let it sink to the strike zone and reel at a moderate to slow speed with periodic jerks/snaps. This day they seemed to want more of just a slow retrieve and chase it which is why trolling seemed to outperform. You do have to mix it up I think depending on the day

@@PeterRanieriII it has been a while because I usually only keep 1 to 2 stripers per year. I want to tell you that I made this exactly the way you did (oven vs grill) and it turned out amazing. I don't mind cooking so the prep was well worth it. My new favorite way to eat Striper. If it wasn't raining today I would have put the skewers on the grill and I could only imagine that it would taste even better. Seriously OUTSTANDING recipe. Thanks for sharing.

In your opinion, are they on the NS or SS first? I wanna get out but work and kids..lol

@@allenrobinson5527 in my limited experience they show up in J bay and the westernmost northshore bay first, then everywhere else soon after. I think by now they are on both the SS and NS. They are moving fast this year, normally I don't see the slot-sized ones in my bay until mid-may

I haven’t stopped thinking about it lol. The only other thing I could think of was he may have been using a heavier jig head and just had it moving better in the strike zone than me. 🤷‍♂️
