so far, 2000 miles on mine. I flew from PA to FL to pick up a manual version. I have been so enthralled by mine! I can't see myself giving it up before the 15 year mark
@@lancewingfield2259 it depends on how passionate you are about manual transmissions. Finding the solar octane new with manual transmission was a real hunt at the time, but for me it is totally worth it.
Been using cruise control on the highway and been averaging 25-26 mpg in my 22 trd pro. Def a turtle but driving it slow rewards you in the gas mileage department. Interior doesn’t have all the tech other trucks have but imo a truck should be simple and easy. Still has knobs for heat and ac which will never get old. Try turning on your heat with a touch screen when your hands are frozen from being outside all day. You’ll thank simplicity then.
The seats sit too low on the floor, and the roof is low. You have to mash the gas peddle just to merge onto traffic. Fuel economy isn’t much better than a 1/2 ton truck. Transmission downshifts every time you hit a slight hill. Reliable or not, I can’t imagine torturing myself with a Tacoma.
He said all that and the only thing you said was it is reliable . Toyota can do better they will never be innovative just do enough but guess what it sucks but it’s reliable.
Seat jackers, retune done, I went with kd maxx pro, head room could be little better I have the sun roof version just little awkward getting in. As for fuel well most people upgrade both the wheels and tires 2,3, even 4 times the tire size bigger, add bunch more weight inside or around, on top, underneath, that reaches the payload capacity or pretty close to it, all these upgrades are great for looks, comfort, protection and performance, but in no can anyone expect the same or close to around the same in mpg its just basic knowledge. I have to admit I'm getting between 15.5-20 mpg on my slightly moded 2017 trd orsb 4x4 but that is with mostly driving at speeds of 70-85 mph highway miles.
As far as looks go, the Tacoma blows all the other mid-size trucks out of the water. In TRD PRO trim, it's just badass. All Toyota needs to do is upgrade the powertrain like Nissan did to their Frontier before they started selling their next generation Frontier and upgrade the interior with better technology/materials. Do that and the current generation Tacoma would be tough to beat and would probably still outsell others in the midsize segment. Oh, and the Tacoma's key fob is seriously outdated and looks like an aftermarket viper fob or something. That definitely needs to be upgraded too.
The Tacoma has one of the best Transmissions for a mid size pickup because mid size trucks went from tow beast to luxury and Pickups can be luxury but keep the hauling power, The TRD pro Tacoma is way better then the Nissan Frontier pro 4x
Speed isn’t everything. Love mine. Let’s not forget tundra hybrids are popping engines. Won’t trust the new one for a gen. This one will last a long time.
I need a TRD Pro so bad. Perfect trim for getting groceries and helping my neighbor dump his old lazy boy once a year All my RWD SR5 is good for is hopping medians, driving down shitty gravel roads full of potholes, and hauling tools and junk constantly
transmission definitely takes its time when accelerating, i usually have to let off the gas slightly so it can shift without nearly redlining onto the highway. the engine has good economy and power
Hello Ben, I’m curious about you’re thoughts on the new redesign for the 2024 Tacoma? More particularly about the power train. Herd is was going to perform better, I’m wondering if I should wait for the 2024 or just get a tundra.
i feel like us tacoma owners exclusively try to leave out how much we pay for fuel in comparison to some other truck owners who pay for fuel. do not misinterpret what i'm saying as in i hate my tacoma. i certainly don't. however, the amount of gas i'm using/how often i fill up, i should've bought a full size truck
You need a tune up then cause I'm consistently getting 19 20 combined and I'm driving a 4.0 second gen with a 3 inch lift and 33s maybe the overland tailor tune helps a bit but I'm getting better milage then my f150
The Tacoma has a reliable transmission the tacoma might of had tramission problems in the past but Toyota fixed that for the 2023 model year. I would do a suspension lift, I would add air suspension I would add off road lighting, Toyota Tacoma TRD pro AKA ' Baby Pro' got a camera rearview mirror with the Tacoma TRD pro
Been looking at them. I know the transmission isn't the best for putting down power. Is the 6 speed manual any different? Because that's what I've been looking at getting.
50k kinda crazy for such a low tech package. If I'm paying 50k for a non-luxury car, I expect it to be optioned out. Heated and ventilated seats, wireless Android auto and apple carplay, the whole thing.
2003 I bought a brand new fully loaded 4 door Tacoma. Had Enkei wheels and Borla exhaust already on it from the dealer. TRD package and leather seats. Out the door 28,000 and some change Prices are stupid now!
@@weirdshibainu Yeah. I get that their cars are statistically more reliable, but that only goes so far when it comes to factoring in a vehicle. If you assume you will drive the national average of 12k miles a year, most cars from other brands will easily last 10-15 years anyway. Toyota will keep it's value more, but is 20k over the span of 10-15 years really worth living with a low tech car while other manufacturers are advancing? At this price point, I would say it's definitely worth considering, whereas before going Toyota was a no brainer.
Yes, the transmission sucks. But it's honestly it's not slow. It's not fast, but not slow. I've owned a Ford Taurus, Dodge Intrepid, Dodge Neon, Mercury Sable, GMC Sonoma, Nissan Versa, Ford Explorer, 3 Corollas, and a Toyota Camry. Only the Camry was SLIGHTLY quicker than my 2023 Tacoma Off Road. Yall, add an exhaust, an intake and a tune and shell be a perfectly serviceable truck.
Only complaint is the “Premium audio” that comes with the vehicle is trash. Skip buttons on the steering wheel stops communicating with Apple CarPlay after an hour on the road and in some instances head unit will just disable CarPlay entirely. Dealerships and Toyota Brand Engagement were of course no help
The way you’re kinda low talking makes it seem like you snuck your neighbors keys from him and you’re trying to do a sneaky review without him catching you.
I recently just purchased a 2022 tacoma trd off road 4x4 and I'm really regretting my purchase even though I love toyota. Truck It's really slow, my old 2014 nissan altima 2.5 was much smoother at high speeds of 65mph and plus. Also mpg sucks, 16mpg in the highway. And full tank won't make it pass 4 hours driving at 75mph in the highway. Can't even finish my 4:30hr trip without having to stop at the pump to refill 😒😒
In conclusion, I would not recommend this truck to anyone to purchase. But I am going to keep it untill next year to see what the all new 2024 tacoma has to offer so I can finally trade it in.
So you can use your key fob to remote start your truck because I was told I had to use the Toyota app for my 2023 Trd off-road. Call me old-school but I don’t really like my phone monitoring every move I make in my truck.
I think the fronteir is a better truck, at least it's made in USA not mexico Still can't get over the fact that you have to be in 4L to engage rear lockers
@thISmurderous clearly yota is cutting costs with the tacoma by building them in a country that pays their workers a fraction of the western worlds, with lower safety and quality standards.
I thought about getting one until I saw the GMC AT4X Canyon and rather have that. It’s way better and has better suspension and the inside is a lot nicer
I hope this year of Tacoma gets really cheap now that the new ones have come out and it’s a redesign with a more powerful platform because I cannot afford anything new new. But slightly used I can do. Those dealership markup are just out of control. I don’t know what type of nut jobs are buying new cars right now but they’re ruining it for everybody.
I have a 2023 Tacoma TRD PRO what are good mods I can do on this truck suspension wise wheel size because this truck is stock Trd pro and I’m not sure if I could touch any of that stuff. There’s no information out there only for lower trims
I went with the Pro 4x and so glad I did. I know the Tacoma and other trucks have pluses but the Frontier just seemed like an overall better mid-size, certainly is for me. And after adding 33” tires, a 2.5” lift and other accessories, it looks awesome.
@@Rigo9 I had the dealer do it so I believe it’s the one that Nissan provides as an option. If RU-vid had a method, I’d show some pics. I also added the sports bar, side steps and 4 cube lights in the lower front bumper. Color is Tactical Green.
I went in the opposite direction. I assumed the new frontier should be much better because it was recently redesigned, and I was so disappointed. I was not too fond of the suspension on pro4x. It was stiff soft, and something in between simultaneously, plus the terrible turn radius and impossible-to-turn steering wheel, I felt car sickness after a few minutes. 10minutes on TRD PRO with the fox suspension sold me on Tacoma, just the perfect suspension which you can't get on Nissan. You get a truck that Toyota perfected over the last 8 years, with excellent after-market support, reliability, and resale value. One thing that I miss is the Heating steering wheel. Besides that, I couldn't find any clear advantage to the Frontier. I don't have any issue with the power train, and if you watch this video, there is no single unexpected down/up shift, it was an issue in the past, but it doesn't exist in 2023, and Tacoma is definitely not slower than Nissan.
@@nikotal.4282 funny how we can feel so opposite. But that’s why it’s good there are options. Can’t really go wrong with the several options on the market.
Driving a manual transmission 3rd gen Tacoma is hopefully a whole lot different experience than the automatic. If not Magnuson may be the answer. It certainly was on my ‘02 ever since day one. Never came home from the dealer w/o being a sleeper. Loves the high altitudes & only an F350 on their game is going to pull away. But SuperTaco is getting old so gunna replace it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oYSU6iMz1SQ.html
