Trek should be paying you for videos like this. You literally just sold me on the Trek Verve 2 red bike due to watching your video. I've never bought a brand new bike before as they've all been used. I can't wait to take it for a ride. THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEO!
Great review man thanks. Yeah, I have a nice all road/gravel bike and a fat bike - neither of which I want to putter around town with and lock up at a grocery store or a pub. Looking at the Verve (among a few others) as my town hopper. You know, something when you're working around the yard on a nice spring day and just want to throw a leg over something in your street cloths and whip down to the beer store for a six pack. I'm 54 and still have pretty good fitness and mobility but I'm temped by the step through. You make a great point, BE COMFORTABLE or you wont want to ride it. One thing you should've mentioned (cool to this bike) are the mounts under the seat stays for a cafe lock which is rare to find on bikes on this side of the planet. Very handy for quick stops - I put one on my wife's Electra Loft. UPDATE: I bought a Verve 3 from my local Trek Dealer in Ontario - really like it, sooooo comfy.
i can see the benefits of this bike my brother bought one i kinda chuckled when he sent me a photo from Chicago maybe i will be kinder now after watching your video nicely done . Trek question Marlin Gen 2 7,8 model not so much gen 3 . is the Gen 2 7 going to climb hills on towpath style trail crushed limestone or nickle size gravel were talking pretty steep incline i'm wanting to upgrade from my 1/9 marin most hills it manages is the rear cassette holding me back i'm not race just high mile rider on hardtail i notice trek 8 has 51 teeth in the rear believe Trek 7 has 46 teeth in the rear my Marin is 42 teeth i have put 6,000 miles on my Marin at times i can go pretty good speed over 15 mph not bragging just know my trail well
I got the red low step about a month ago and love it. Rides nice and the brakes are fantastic. I've got a bad hip so this was just what I was looking for.
I really enjoyed this review. Last year I bought the low-step Verve 2 for my wife, and it is fantastic! Thank goodness Trek hasn't forgotten about biking enthusiasts who want a quality, flexible (triple crank), plenty fast enough, and good-looking bike that is comfortable! I have a 2012 Specialized Crossroads Sport that I love because it shares many characteristics of the Verve 2. Specialized has abandoned this segment now IMO. The "Roll"? Hard pass for me. The triple crank on the Verve 2 is key for me. The 38-tooth middle chain ring is the "goldilocks" chain ring in that it is great for really ~ 90% of riding. BUT, I really appreciate the other two chain rings when riding on more slopped up or down surfaces (meaning I would be hard pass on a single 38 tooth only chain ring on a 1x drive-train). The double chain ring on the Verve 3 is less desirable for me (even with the extra gear on the cassette on the Verve 3) because neither one is as close to an all-purpose ring as the 38 tooth Verve 2. Also, love the tires. Just right. Plenty fast enough and also feel very secure. Again, with the current Specialized "Roll" - hard pass on those overly fat tires. The suspension seat post is great. And also, please Trek don't ever change to a suspension fork on the Verve. I think that would ruin it by slowing it down with no benefit whatsoever. The more upright riding position with the suspension seat post and the slightly bigger (but not too big) tires compared to hard-core road bikes are a perfect comfort / speed combination. The only thing IMO that is slightly out of place on the Verve is the saddle. I can forgive Trek for that because although they have put so much smart targeted thinking into the design of this great bike, I guess it's hard to 100% abandon the dedicated hard-core biking mindset. The seat comfort is okay (not a rock-hard piece of plastic), but IMO not in line with the other well thought out comfort aspects of this awesome bike. You don't have to go to a frumpy looking seat like you would find on a Townie for comfort. We got her the "Selle Royal Respiro (Gel)" saddle and it is very comfortable but still good looking. Add a good bar mounted mirror, front light, and rear lit reflector and it really is a perfect bike. Thank you Trek!!!
