Great video!! I have been waiting for this test ride. I recently purchased a 2023 Triumph Street Triple R in Silver Ice. After weeks and weeks of research. (Including your videos). I dismissed the Z900, GSX-8S, MT09 and CB650R and bought the Triumph. I absolutely LOVE this motorcycle. And after watching your review of it, I'm even happier knowing i made the right decision on this bad boy! Keep up the good work Dan. Cheers from America
As a daily V2 rider i found it kind of borring. I even test rode the RS and idk its just a normal sounding engine. Definitly needs an aftermarket exhaust
@@bastianmortl4443 No Street Triple but an agile Yamaha MT09 SP (2020), optimized to 181,5 Kg wet and 118 whp 😅🏁 And yes, it has an Akrapovic full system (Euro 4) fittet. Excellent in terms of weight reduction, power gain from 8k rpm and overall (premium) quality😅✌️🏁
This bike is for the smart money. Perfect bike for the street. RS and MOTO2 are for the track or bragging rites. Needs wind protection though cause you get blasted at higher speeds. Also needs a bit larger tank cause you'll spend most of your day in the gas station 😂 Triumph should do a sport tourer option of this bike. That bike would be a big winner.
I have the R, agree though, the RS is very good value. I just found the r to be a little more supple on back roads, and realistically didn’t notice any drop in performance. On a track this would be different though, the RS would be better. What a good bike in any guise.
What is shocking is that the RS has cruise control option and R does not. If the R had that option i would bought it without second thoughts. In Barcelona there's lots of speed enforced areas.
Shortlisted this lovely bike, together with the Yamaha XSR900, both impressed with their three-cylindre engines. In the end, I purchased the Yamaha, for the sole reason of the dealer that is closer to my home. My advice: We need more Triumph dealers in Germany.
I was initially going to purchase a 2022 XSR900, but availability and absurd dealer fees were a hurdle. Happened upon a deeply discounted, lightly used 2022 Street Triple R and pulled the trigger. No regrets, though I do still prefer the looks of the Yamaha. That blue and gold is lovely.
After testing the XSR and the Street I also went with the Yamaha. I'm not good enough to benefit from the extra nimbleness of the Street and the XSR was more fun; in the end and most of all, at least for me and in the UK, insurance and servicing the Triumph was 50% and 100% more, respectively, than the XSR!
@sguna99 I can certainly relate as I'm nowhere near competent enough to extract the handling prowess that the STR has over the XSR900, but in my case, I paid at least $3-4k less for my lightly used Triumph (including a 2 year extended warranty) than I would have payed for a new XSR900. Had they been priced the same, I'd have likely gone with the Yamaha. I did test ride an XSR900 and found that the throttle/clutch required more finesse to avoid lurchy engagement, but I suppose you get used to it.
Yes, I always have to factor in how far I need to travel for service. In the USA the dealers have thinned out. The economy and Americans just don’t ride as much as other countries. The Car is king! I’m looking at that xsr 900. I’m impressed and Yamaha gets high marks. Sometimes your Ducati and triumph service and such can be pricey. But this 2023 street triple reminds me of the 2005-2010 speed triple, a cut above the competition.
Great review. I really like this bike & for me it"s the best middleweight naked & really good value too. I think the RS is gorgeous but this R is more than enough if your only road riding & significantly cheaper too.
I’ve had my 18 Street Triple R for quite some time now, I absolutely love it. But seeing this new model, I think I might have myself a test ride and probably upgrade after seeing this. Thanks Dan, your videos are always top notch.
I've got a 23 R and the belly pan was the one thing i thought it needed good news you can get them on the R there about £140 extra, only done about 400 miles since ive had it and can say i am loving it
I’m selling my 2018 Street R tonight and wasn’t really looking at another Street( I’ve had 2 already), but after seeing this video, I’m thinking of another Street R possibly. Great bikes with incredible reliability and so well made. I think these are the best overall bikes around.
I’ve had the yellow RS for about 6 weeks now. Went to the dealer who had a yellow, red and silver RS in the showroom and as soon I saw the yellow it was game over. Had a 2018 R before and the RS is such a great bike, with improvements in every area. Love the new front end styling and the tank design changes as well. It all looks more aggressive. But no matter how hard I try I can’t take a photo of it that makes the yellow paint look like it actually does 😂 It’s such a great colour in the flesh. You can’t deny the R is great value though. Especially having identical real world power on the road.
Totally agree on the yellow. It's got a hint of orange in it I think. Very very similar to the liquid yellow renault give to their sporty hatches. Think every pic I've taken of mine, it's looked different!
In Long: Some may choose the RS for pure emotional reasons (color, the lust to have the best like stylima brakes or if you want the TFT dash). For regular road use, where you spend 95% between 2.000 and 9.000rpm you will notice no difference in the engine. Yes the better brakes you can notice even on road, but to be clear, the M4.32 Brembos are very good and better then what is mounted on most bikes 10-12k price range.
Very true - my CP3 pulls like freight train from 2’000 rpm (moving only 182,7 kgs wet) - allowing me to use 4th and 5th even in the twisties and on the mountain passes - no need to solicit max. revs / power most of the time 😎🏁🏁
@@SirMountainpass I was riding the 2020 XSR900, torque like a diesel car and plenty of power. I also liked the look and the price. Maybe that one would have been better then the Street R I took finally, but it's a close thing between booth. The Street is a little more agile in the bends. Whereas I have to admit, power cruising with a little less lean angle is more to my liking then I thought 2020. Thumbs up for your great bike.
@@karsteng1809 Thank you, Karsten. With the sticky S22 rubber, overall light wet weight and optimized power (116 whp @10’800 rpm) the SP is a treat on the mountain passes. Also, no problems to do a 2’500 km holiday tour (with some SW Motech Pro gear) thanks to the comfortable riding position (one of the biggest assets vs the Streety RS 2023, at least for my body shape 😅). And yet, I am already curious about the next-gen SP (launch in 2025/26?)😉🏁
You can get the molded belly pan - it's an option :) i would add it - it looks nice. I just rode the RS and going to ride the R next week. They sold all the RS's at my dealer but they have some R's - so.... I would get heated grips for cooler riding and it REALLY needs a longer rear hugger as it chucked water on my bum/hips from the road. Really if you like the TFT on the R then - your made.
I test rode both back to back starting with the r. I found the ride plusher on the rs, some of that could be down to the tyres as well as the suspension. The rs to me feels more premium when you're aboard, things like the levers and brake reservoir look cheap on the r. Whilst the r is a great bike I opted for the rs and picked up my yellow one a week ago. I've done 350 miles so far and love it, it's great to be back on a triumph triple again after selling my much loved 675r last May. 😊
Yeah, it's definitely more premium, as it should be for the price increase. I felt a little more tipped forward too which would be good on the track. Either bike is great, I'm still not sure which I'd take! :D
Nice review mate. I love the rs in yellow, and the bling is hard to ignore-but, stick on some bar end mirrors, cruise control, heated grips. I’d struggle with the saving over the little difference in performance.
Nice review.... But i have to say, people too often forget the MV Agusta Brutale 800 that is straight rival both in equipement, performance and engine. Having a tangle between the two... damn i am in a dilema XD
Not so sure. The switch cube just slides off the end of the bar and is replaced by one with the cruise switch on it. It is quite an easy swap. The cruise capability is probably already on the bike and is activated along with the new switch cube. Cables are push fit and held by a cable-tie.
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff it;s the same one on the R as it is for the Trident - which i am lead to believe has no cruise control available - also different TFT and software to the RS- so not available thru Triumph......MAnufacturers NEED to start putting cruise control on bikes - it's good for roads with speed cameras and average speed cameras over a stretch of highway /motorway...
Must admit, the dash/cockpit really lets this down. The previous R had a dashboard, mirrors and controls that felt more premium. You knew you were on a STR. Now it would look like you were on a Trident/Tiger 660. I had a Trident and felt it would play on my mind. Also, painted black engine casings, again a step down in the premium look? Could be wrong there. However, the engine is great, and the handling is fantastic if it's a step up from last year. I'm sure they will sell loads. The R would be my choice over the RS for road use.
I have a Tiger 660 with the same display. I fond that it is perfectly functional and displays all of the information you need and then some. 2k extra for the RS vs the R would be quite a big spend for a nicer dash if that's the reason for doing it.
Have you seen them in the flesh? I went to the dealer 100% buying a red. I’d seen the yellow in photos and it did nothing for me. Walked in to showroom and saw all 3 colours and the yellow blew me away. Bought it within 30 minutes 😂 It looks nothing like the photos. The pearl in the paint is really very nice. If you’ve not seen them for real don’t discount them. Even the silver looks better in the flesh.
I love my 2023 RS which Triumph have raised the bar with, the handling's sharper but still planted and the shorter gearing has made low and mid range acceleration peppier but TBH I prefer the TFT on the R as the RSs is too cluttered.
Being someone who wears reading glasses, I find some text difficult to read as it's just too small. That's my only gripe so far after one week of ownership.
Great review, i've been watching your channel for a while now and look forward to your videos. Love your fuel exhaust reviews, this street triple would sound awesome with a fuel system on it. Ride safe and dont forget to stop for a cup tea! :)
The R for me, I don’t ride on track, and it’s a bit nicer on rubbish ( now standard) uk roads. This is a bike for the twisties, and the throttle is so light, not sure I would use cruise control. Mind you, I thought the quick shifter was something I didn’t need, but I’d miss it now. Having RS on the side gives it a bit more cred if you need it haha. Thought R was more supple than RS, some think otherwise.
I've got an older generation "R" model and for road riding it more than good enough. I would suggest the RS would only be faster on a track, well above road legal speeds. Definitely the puck of the STriple range.
What a machine, I love it! That colour is the best in my opinion. I’ve always been a fan of the street triple as they are one of the best all rounders. Please get one 😂
@@Englishbikerdan great review, I don’t agree with the low down power : torque of the Street triple, I had a demo of this , the Rs model and found it a bit gutless at low revs tbh , it’s a fantastic bike though it’s so easy to ride especially at low speeds filtering ect but I’ll keep my Speed Triple for pure fun 🤩
I agree with every point...now just trying to justify my need for an 8th motorcycle. The RS is incredible but the R will check all the boxes I require.
Yip lovely bike ….great weight and sound …specd up one out the wrapper 2017 with loads of extras as I’d thought be the one to keep but changed it 2022 for a BMW R1250RS…. Street Triple be great if you stay in tenerife type country ….but west coast of Scotland 🏴 not so much ..I’m not getting any younger and need fairing/screen …. But would agree it’s a great bike with loads of attitude …I still get the attraction tho
Hey guys, I'm still torn between the Street Triple RS, the Kawasaki z900se and the Yamaha mt-09SP, any recommendations? I have test driven the Triumph and Kawa and they both seem fantastic. The only thing is, I have never used a quickshifter or a cruise control before. The Kawasaki doesn't have those options but is a bit cheaper. Any thoughts on this?
@@SirMountainpass Thanks for the info! I have the luck of the draw that all three have dealerships nearby so that's not a differentiating factor for me. Right now I'm heavily leaning towards the Kawa because of the seating position and how smooth it is. I've test driven the mt-07 and the torque was already pretty preppy there so I can only imagine what the 09 must be like
@@milodebruin4821 Thanks for the tip! Yeah, I've sat on all three of them by now. The seating position on the MT09 was the best, then kawa, then Triumph. I like the more casual position instead of the sporty one. I'm going to be commuting a lot on the bike as well so that's a factor ta take into account as well. The only thing is that the MT-09 feels very on or off when riding. So I'm probably going to go for the kawa and live without the cruise control and quickshifter
Would I trade my Honda CB650R for one? Yes, I most certainly would. Add a belly pan, bar end mirrors and cruise control and call it a day. Trick is convincing my wife that it makes any kind of fiscal sense. 🙂 There are actually things on the RS that I DON'T want. Like increased ride height, more twitchy handling and less all-weather capable tyres. The yellow colour, however, IS TO DIE FOR!
It's tough competition for sure. Most components on this are better than on the Hornet. The Hornet wins on price, dealer network, cost of servicing and bang for buck (so price again really).
Looking at changing my KTM790 Duke and this is a consideration. What was the economy like? The Orange gives mid 50,s and that’s not hanging about, 60+ if adhering to the speed limits
I’ll never understand why bike manufacturers continue to insist on putting the USB socket in the boot. When you need to charge your phone is when you’re using it for something draining like sat nav, in which case it’s at the front of your bike, nowhere near the boot. 🙄
Here in the Netherlands the difference in price between the two would equate to more than 3,000 GBP once basics have been added, so not sure if it's worth it if your a road rider not doing track days etc...
I took an RS out last week as part of the Triumph Tour, and spent the last week trying to justify one. I’m sure i could tour on it, I’m sure I could somehow fit luggage, I’m sure I could trade my bike in……
Both bikes are great. If you want better, tyres, suspension, brakes, dash, mirrors, different colour scheme and more power......get the RS.. I just bought an RS, it's mental lol So good in every way.
I mean, technically they are better. But just how much better are they on the UK roads in real terms? Answer, I'll be testing both back to back soon to find out! Glad you love your RS. Great bikes!
I don’t live in the UK. To me if you can’t afford the RS that answers the question but if you can why wouldn’t you get it? I think if people are worried so much about the extra money I wouldn’t even buy a 2023 triple I’d buy a 2020. Fortunately enough for me I live in the country and have great roads around me so spirited riding is definitely something you can do.
@@AlanOliver20 I was exactly the same when I started and I wouldn’t jump on one of these myself first off. I’m quite a spirited rider and I would have got into some pretty interesting situations on this bike if it was my first. I like to ride through a bike before moving up, earning the right to ride it.
I'm not sure I'd buy the RS. To me the R is nearly as good, for quite a bit less money. And would I notice the difference or feel sad about it? Probably not! Depends what bothers you I guess.
I was watching this thinking oh yeah thats the bike for me than you mention the 890 R and the MT09 and im like well, id rather have either of those even though this is great. Also Gsxs 1000 is same price.. or 3 grand in your pocket and get the Hornet.

You can get belly pan as an option. Fun review as usual.
Great review! Wasn‘t sure about the R or RS. But looking at the seating position with an inseam of 30, which is what mine is as well, I would go for the R. Sure, there is a lower seat available for the RS. But this will result in a more bent angle …
I just test rode the RS but sat on both in my local dealer. On both I couldn't flat foot it, so the difference is very very minimal in person. I think it's something you could probably feel more on track performance.
It's a pretty decent step up in performance and handling. A good as the Trident is, this is better in every way if you want an agile flickable naked sportsbike.
@@Englishbikerdan here in the States, I just got a quote for insurance on just the 2024 Street R and it's double what bikes like my old Street was 4-5 yrs. ago. They are classifying it as a race bike. Ridiculous!
Brilliant engine but then all their triples are, absolute weapon on a twisty road. Sadly being 60+ I’ll stick with my Multi V2 but I could find space for one of these in the garage.
