Howdy folks! This is a giveaway bike. Get entered to win at yammienoob.co - sweepstakes will end in September, and we've got some really exciting future giveaways later this year! Superduke 1390 anyone...? ;) Also! Some people asked why I didn't get the 2024, simply put: it wasn't available anywhere when I needed to purchase it! We haven't done a 3rd gen MT09, let alone the SP, and this model is so good. Honestly, I think since it's more upright ergonomically speaking it is spiritually more close to the original mission of the bike, while retaining its character and charm. Let me know what you think :)

I've been riding motorcycles for almost 20 years, I have MT-09SP 2023 and I must warn anyone who wants to buy this bike. There is no going back. 😉 Since I bought this motorcycle, I have also ridden an MT-07 (2022), BMW S1000R (2021), R6, GSX-R and a few others. NO motorcycle can compete with the MT-09 SP. My only recommendation is to buy the 2024 version, as it has a much better display. 👍🏻 + buy a steering damper. It helps a lot.

'23 XSR9 here.. yes a smaller screen. I can see it just fine. Needs Adjustable levers.. I like the friction point closer. I prefer larger diameter grips to boot. Adjustable brake lever might be better as well, the two finger reach feels far. Yamster: please make a video on adjusting the suspension. Apparently at least the same KYB in the front as my XSR. I went -1, +2 sprockets, and sintered front pads. Highly recommend a flash, you still have modes to calm things down until confidence builds. I went exhaust (dominator dual can), but really worth only a few additional HP. Stock exhaust sounds Good! The flash get's 80% of the gains for only $300. Bike Prices going up.. I paid $10.3K for my XSR in march '23. but No Ohlins. Once dialed in to my weight and rebound, no complaints. A passenger on the back? I don't think so! Insurance is pretty high, but not liter bike. Needs a windscreen..

Hey Yams I know you were talking about an exhaust costing around 2k out the door after a flash and everything but there are some more “budget” options that might be worth looking into. My buddy has an XSR900 which I’m pretty sure shares the exhaust system with the MT09. He got a BlackWidow full system delivered from the UK to north Texas in 3 days for under $500 out the door. After a flash the performance gain is night and day. Especially in 2nd gear it’s like a completely different bike. And it’s insanely loud. So there are good lower cost options too for anyone interested.

Tuning the Gen 2 suspension was in the same league as tuning the CR1125 - very similar suspension and weight. Tuning the MT09 was easy - raise the forks in the trees 14mm and set sag and then the rest from there. Much better. A flash /tune did a lot for the throttle jumpiness, temp, and smoother power delivery. Been worth every penny spent on it since I won it. lol

Every MT whether it is a 7, 9 or 10 should get an Akrapovic titanium if you want sound and performance without being ridiculously loud and 2 Wheel Dyno Works ECU flash. Those guys are the gods of the MT platform with ECU flashing and it is only around $250. They did my 07 and it is a night and day difference. They have flashed more MT's than anyone in the country and possibly more than anyone in the world and the owner is an MT fanatic.

I have a 2023 MT 09sp. I bought it new and paid cash. It is a fantastic bike. My one critique is that it is not built for tall people. I am 6'6" And I barely fit on it. I have found that I need to stretch and hydrate before.I even consider taking the bike out. Never take anything like coffee before a ride. (Cramps) I also have a seat cushion on top of the motorcycle seat to lift me up a little bit and give me a tiny bit more leg room. I also put some foot pegs on it that lower by about one half inch. These are small adjustments, but it's all there is. I really wish they made a sport bike for a tall person that was comfortable. Until then, this is as close as it gets for me. It's such a wonderful bike though! I'll probably never sell it. (Unless the big sport bike comes out. 🤣)

Once they added TC, abs and the modes it helped so much. you have a good set of tires like the angel GTs and wow it takes the turns. who needs a 600 to take a turn. and the reliability, put a take bag on and take it anywhere. My good friend and I on the weekends hit twisties at a spirited pace in the hill country all the time. She has a 23 mt09 sp. I was following her on my cbr1000rr. She had never been on a super sport and asked if we should switch bikes. I followed her on her sp for about 20 minutes through the twisties. Super fun bike but I didn’t care for it in the twisties. Driving out of corners it constantly wanted to wheelie to the point where the front end was always dancing/speed wobbling. Also anything close to 100 mph and over same thing. Front end danced all over the place. I’m not a wheelie person or hooligan in that aspect so flowing through chicane style twisties was a bit annoying because I was fighting to keep the front end from dancing. My friend that owns it also has a street triple and prefers the street triple in the twisties as It’s way more stable. If I owned it I would lower the front end about an inch so the front end didn’t sit higher than the rear to make it more stable. Fun bike though but I didn’t care for the lack of stability when on flowing twisties.

100% agree with this. went from a gsxr600 and the 23 mt09. It feels dangerous turning quick at speed. The rear suspension isn't that good. no high speed compression adjustment makes it kick hard and the adjustments make almost no difference especially to soften the ride. BUT It is a great bike in terms of fun and seating position. The bad high speed handling keeps my speed down or makes lower speed more fun. I would love to fix it with a new rear shock and steering damper.
@TheTyrone1981
@TheTyrone1981 Месяц назад
@@jonpeters5194 yea I honestly think a lot of it would be fixed if the front end were lowered a bit. When you look at the bike the front actually sits higher than the rear. I think it was purposely designed that way because it was a hooligan bike and the geometry makes for easier wheelies.
@jonpeters5194
@jonpeters5194 Месяц назад
@@TheTyrone1981 Dropping the front would put more weight on the front and improve front end feel (which is needed) but it would also quicken the steering which could be adverse to high speed handling. I think it is worth trying, maybe 5mm at a time because that's the only way to really know.
@TheTyrone1981
@TheTyrone1981 Месяц назад
Yea my friend said she may try lowering hers a bit in the front to see if it helps. It’s a free mod and if I doesn’t help can always put it back to stock easily. I had a street triple rs as well. Absolutely loved that bike. That thing handled like it was on rails. I’ve owned 15 bikes to date all different styles and the street triple was by far the most fun bike I’ve ever owned.

I went with the Z900 over the MT09 because I much prefer the ergonomics and seating position. It’s more tucked and leaned forward. For my 100 mile commute, 2/3’s of which is interstate, it deals with the wind better. The Z900 also felt like it has just a little more grunt everywhere in the power band as well, although the power is more “dull” (smooth). The Z900 also lacks some of the electronics, no 6 axis IMU, no cruise control, no ride by wire. The 20+ Z900’s have adjustable Showa suspension front and rear though, and the SE models has fully adjustable the Ohlins/radial Brembo’s with steel lines… just lacks the electronics…

@@Mike_P646 no quickshifter as well. Because it’s a cable throttle, the only aftermarket quickshifters are upshift only. Again, those are not deal breakers for me. The only electronic aids I wanted for a daily were ABS and riding modes/TCS for a bike with this level of power, mainly only for when I get caught riding in the rain. I don’t need all the other stuff. For me, ergonomics and how the bike feels matter more. And overall I preferred the more aggressive, tucked ergo’s of Z900 over the MT09. Compared to a super sport though the Z900 is still quite upright. It’s a different riding feel, the MT09 feels a little more flickable, the Z900 more stable. I also got a very good deal on a lightly used very low mileage private sale ‘22 Z900, paid cash so no loan, another plus…

You can make it more track ready for free too. The risers can be flipped to put the bars more forward and there’s a second more raised position for the pegs. Also for new bikes most of the bigger naked bikes the exhaust system is all one piece.

One thing I would love to see is a comparison between this generation MT-09, a first-gen FZ-09, and the 2017-present model GSX-S750 (not the 2015 model that released alongside the FZ-09). Given these bikes released together in the US, and the 2017+ model of the GSX-S has comparable power. The 750 was always regarded as a better handling bike, but the FZ-09 was more fun, and I would like to see how different this modern version Obviously, the modern MT-09 has way more features, but I want to see how the handling has changed since the first generation, and how the modern version’s handling has changed and stacks up to its original competition. Obviously, the modern MT-09 wins on features, but purely from handling (even though many modern features do assist handling, so of course that must be acknowledged).

The suspension on that 2017 was trash though, super bouncy and sketchy. I'm currently debating between a standard or SP for the 2024 model, but these dealerships are wanting 30-40% on top of MSRP 😬
