Alrightly Guys, the KYB suspension on the standard MT10 is NOT semi active, just fully adjustable. Clearly got some dodgey sources 🤣 however, I suppose that makes the £4K price difference a little easier to swallow! 😁 Thanks guys!
Hi Kate, awesome review!! I have a MT 10 and a R1. The same and also very different 😅. Love them both! But to get to your active suspension point. What I'm reading on the Dutch Yamaha website is that the 2024 does have a semi active suspension. Cheers from a Dutch Yamaha fanboy.
I have a 2022 standard MT-10… no amount of fuel is enough, the exhaust chokes it, it can be a tourer or an animal, you will break the speed limit constantly, it will try and unalive you… but you will always have a smile on you face😈😈😈 Godspeed….
I completely understand your thrilling to the ride. I have a 7 year old MT10 which I ride almost exclusively with my wife as pillion. We can say this bike never gets old in the sense that you never lose the silly grin under the helmet. It can be docile when pootling in traffic but get it out away from spying eyes and cameras and it is a hoot. I have an Oxford belt with handles so the wife can stay safe no matter how much I hoon. (Australian for hooligan). So predictable in handling without the later added safety stuff. Love at first ride never regretted the purchase. Thought about the SP but...a bit pricey for us oldies. 74 and still the best bike ever to ride! Enjoyed your reactions have fun and stay safe.
I had an MT-10 (not SP) for 2 years. What an amazing lunatic of a bike but my god it was thirsty and uglier than my ex but it was unreal. I sold it for a Zh2 which is even thirstier and just as ugly but it’s more mental than an MT-10. Loved the vid Kate 🤙🏽
And that's a stock bike. I have a 1st gen, after you properly flash the ecu these turn into a TOTALLY different machine, they come running extremely lean from the factory to meet euro 5, etc. You can decat and add an exhaust but almost all the additional power you feel over the stock bike comes from the ecu flash, not the exhaust. Adding an exhaust just accentuates the beautiful sound that this cp4 makes. Great video!
The standard MT10 is £4k cheaper (if you find a deal) and its fully adjustable KYB (NOT semi active) is plenty good enough for most riders. The only riding mod it needs is some upgraded brake pads to help their initial bite.
Amazing Steve! Thanks for bringing this to my attention 😁 I'll try and ammend the video and pin a comment! I mis interpreted a piece about the gap closing on the SP and none SP and whether the SP is justifiable 😊
@@UsernameKate Best thing to do is go and ride a non-SP one. It may not be a looker as standard but some might consider that a blank canvas. You can get a lot of mods for the £4k difference to make it your own. Get the dealer to set up the suspension for you though as mine on factory settings was way too hard for me (92 kg) and the roads I ride. The seat is often complained about being to hard and I initially agreed but now I'm close to my suspension sweet spot setup it's fine. Still got a comfort seat on order though as part of my free £1k of Yamaha accessories.
I have one, in black, standard model. Few extras, Akra can, comfort seat, Gilles levers, lots of evotech bobbins, evotech tail tidy, GB racing engine covers, Yamaha tank side grips and tank pad, Yamaha oil cooler and rad protectors. It's a hoot, gets a bit windy north of 120, sounds great revved out to the limiter, impressive grip from the factory Bridgestones S22's and I've run the rear tyre out to both edges without feeling like I'm pushing my luck. I haven't diddled with the suspension yet but I need to go on a diet first 😇but compared to the MT09 I had before it feels pretty plush. Had occasion to ride it in some awful rain a while back and D mode was brilliant for that as it reduces output to 100bhp
I’m going to comment before I watch this only because I had an MT10 for two years (not the SP) I’ve owned in excess of 25 bikes over the years and ridden many more …for me the MT was the perfect blend of everything and the sound of that crossplane crank engine giving it beans was honey to my ears. Rite now to the vid 😅
@@UsernameKate😂you didn’t disappoint I kind of guessed what your reaction would be .. I had the same it’s mental! Time to go back and get another I 🤔! I suspect you maybe planning on buying one 😊
I test rode a 2022 model and I was sold. I just picked up my 2023 empty 10 a couple weeks ago. The first test ride sold me on it and I knew at that point that I was on the wrong bike. I was previously on a 2021 Kawasaki Z 900 RS Café. When I test rode the MT 10 I didn’t feel like I could justify trading a bike that I only had for a year but after two years it was time to do it!
If you love the sound remove the CAT using a link pipe and get a new flash and you will see what that bike is all about. In the US the # 1 tuner picks up 25 more HP with the link pipe and tune. For the price should have Brembo brakes. The naked bike from BMW has 210hp... that will be a rocket to ride.
Nice ride review, I got to try this bike a couple months ago at my local dealer when Yamaha was there with all the bikes. Let me just say it was like a gorilla trying to pull your arms out of the sockets, no joke. I love the engine as well, very Ducati-esk sounding. I also love how the gear indicator on the dash has the numbers slide from right to left instead of just changing when shifting up or down. Yes, this would be a "license looser" for me ... 🤫
Hi Kate, great to see you riding around my local villages👍😉😉. The MT10 is like you say a fantastic bike which pushes you the more you push it.....😉 Brilliant video 👍
I own a MT 10 SP 2022. (Same as the 2023) and I could not ask for more. You mentioned the sound quite a few times, try a full AKRAPOVIC exhaust. Make a video after. 😅 Dream bike. Took me a bit to get used to the looks, but now, I am actually really happy with it.
I’m less than a minute into this video and my initial impression is that the bike suits you! (The 2017 MT10 was probably the most fun bike I’ve ever owned)
Great Vid,Welcome to the darkside.Bought mine new in 2017 would never sell it,but you can do a lot for the £4000 difference, haveing one flashed really unleashes the potential and it is like riding a more brutal smoother bike if that makes sense.
Hello, I rode this bike about one month ago And IT WAS fenomenal and as YOU said Its a licence taker. So that Is the main resason why I can not buy this bike, second Is that I could over take my riding skills and kill my self.... But this bike Is very good. I liked IT.
The suspension makes all the difference. If you would have put it into A3 on the more bumpy roads you would really see how great it is. You can also change it on the fly while riding.
This is the bike I really want as a second bike. I can't justify the price difference between the MT-09 SP and MT-10 SP, for myself though. I want to say YOLO, but I'm not sure I'd let myself.
Love this bike Kate love your vlogs nothing beats seeing you on a sportsbike wearing your leathers and swanky helmet and dark visor ride safe lovely my favourite Bolton biker chick 😂
Need to get you, Chopsie, and the 44Teeth crew for a full naked street shootout. Bavarians, Austrians, Italians, and Japanese! Not that the SP will win, but could for sure win some hearts. Solid review, enjoyed it.
Thanks Kate. I think you like, liked this one lol. I have owned two Yamahas and never regretted it. This bike looks, sounds and goes superb. Shiny side up:>)
I have a 2019 model, geared it up one tooth on the rear sprocket. I dumped the cat, put on a Scorpion link pipe, and had an ECU re-flash. Good lord does it fly, + 160 and I cut rides short because it just begs you to be anti-social.
The standard MT10 does not have semi-active KYB suspension Kate. It's your good old fashion manually adjustable set up. Just thought I would point that out. If you loved the sound and ride of this bike you must try the Aprilia Tuono 1100V4 [Factory or standard]. It is absolutely bonkers with THE best sound in motorcycling today.
I'm pretty sure the newer ones do, and that was one of the arguments I read that with the gap closing, can the SP be justified. But I'll take another look at the literature of course! (edit: yep! You're right. I'll see if I can sort it in the video but I'll pin a comment for now! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!)
Some amazing technology there. Looks wise it doesnt cut it for me. Too high up and looks a bit "hunchbacked". Too many of the current bikes are like that they look like SUVs and personally I just think a low sleek Lambo looks great, a little hunchbacked SUV looks like crap. We are in an era where fashion is giving us some fugly bikes... 😑
As my daughter has mentioned, the Taylor Swift of motorcycle vloggers does it again. Had a first gen, but I ride mainly city streets. Still, this version would be very cool now that they’re in the states. Cheers. 👍🤪🇨🇦🏳️🌈
Think this is really interesting. Had a go on the MT09 SP and was not a lover primarily for the suspension. To here how good the MT10 SP is with the suspension upgrade sounds interesting. Bike sounds and seems epic just wonder how long would keep the license if I had one 😮 thanks for the review excellent as always
I don't know who Yamaha use to set their suspension factory settings but they're way to hard for me. I'm sure the MT09 SP could be dialled in for your liking with a bit of knowledge and effort though.
Kate !!! that it is.... 44teeth play computer but you adjust the Moped-CPU and let it roll ✌️🍀💐 ( for the most youtube hero's : " what is about Motorbikes which have more miles on the counter plus the maintenence-report ?" ...sure the most friendly words are build up by low milage Motorbikes , ↖️ my Yamaha is ~21.500km single cylinder and no drama at the running cost as a example plus Honda with 333km at julie the 10th '23 )
Everyone bangs on about how bad the fuel is. Yeah the gen 1 wasnt great on fuel but the gen 2 will happily do 150 miles before the light come on and even then youv got like another 30 mile. Considering a 1250gs does 200 miles to a tank i dont see how you can hate on this beast of a bike for fuel. Go find me another bike with this power and performance that has better fuel economy
ANY mt10 is just pute jailbait! Flash the ecu (easier on old gen) and it turns into a totally different machine! Ten times better, WAY more power, no more "snatchy" throttle, liwer fan temps, etc. Buy an old one for cheap!
I’d like to hear her impressions on the two but after a long think, I ended up with the XSR900 mainly bc I love love love the design and blue/gold color way. It’s a dream on the road!
@@UsernameKate it’s no touring seat that’s for sure haha! But it’s plenty comfy for me on moderately long rides and holds me in place really well when romping on it hard which, ya know, happens a Lot 😎
The great thing about naked bikes is you don't want to do high speeds for very long unless you like being a human parachute. It's the way the bike accelerates from anywhere in the revs, utilises the cp4s power delivery characteristics to punch out of corners and how it sounds that brings the thrills. High speed shenanigans is not where it's at really.
