After a long wait, Yamaha is finally bringing over the MT-10 SP to the US. But are electronic suspension and steel-braided brake lines really worth the wait? Road Test Editor Troy Siahaan rode the bike in the canyons and at the racetrack to see what all the fuss is about.

With end of year Aprilia discount Tuono Factory 1100 is just $1,500 more, and Tuono v4 (non factory ) is even $1,000 cheaper. So not really sure about "can't beat" statement.

@@bachshl as someone with an rsv4 and an mt10sp, the maintenance costs are wild for the Aprilia. Every 12k miles a valve adjustment is $2000. The mt10 check is every 26k miles and $800. And that's just one aspect. It's like European performance cars, their price isn't far off, but it's the cost to own one that gets you Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'll ever not have an aprilia, but let's not forget the actual cost to have one

Yamaha still uses 1 low beam, 1 high beam headlight system . . . instead of giving us 2 low beams together, 2 high beams together! So many manufactures do this still! Riding at night it will make a difference man!!! Good review, thanks for the 411 on how it handles at the track. As someone whos a casual trackday rider, but mostly street. This is good to hear about!

There's this Myth that both lights ON at the same time would make it seem like headlights on a car still far away and maybe cause some kind of "distance perception dependent" accidents. I personally think it's B.S and would like both ON AT ALL TIMES.

Not a very good review of this excellent street bike, had a 2019 R1 - terrible street bike and just got MT10SP and its a great street bike, pegs are not too low, suspension is great and quick shifter is smooth as butter so I do not understand why this guy is bashing those qualities. Its a street bike first and track bike second, best comfort and performance that I have tried to date and that's going up against my 2020 Tuono 1100 Factory so props to Yamaha for making the best all around naked bike you can buy!

I prefer a soft initial bite on any road vehicle. My Multi has Brembo M50s that are soft initially and with a little more squeeze they're very powerful, I can't imagine wanting more powerful brakes. Same as my car, a CTS V sport, 6 pot Brembos up front, soft initially, but if I step on it my PS4S tires will give up before the brakes. Why would you want jerky brake application on the street?

Too bitey is definitely a thing in my book. But I also never worry about what reviewers say about brakes. Brakes are the most setup sensitive part of the bike bar maybe tires. Poorly set up brakes on demo bikes seems all too common. I've never owned brakes I couldn't tune to be at least acceptable to me. I'll add that dealers don't do a great job of initial setup either from what I've seen. Brakes need TLC.

Rode it recently, loved it. Does pretty much everything very well indeed. Only gripe for me is the still-horrible-despite-mpg-improvements tank range. If they changed it to a 5(+) gallon tank this thing would be able to stretch into the tourer niche in more people's garages. Living in SW USA that tank range is unacceptable for crossing deserts. (Edit: Perhaps Yamaha are intentionally leaning into the 'Empty-10 meme' dunno.)
@aluisious
@aluisious Год назад
4 gallons x 30 mpg is 120 miles of range you don't have to worry about. The longest highway stretch without gas stations, I70 through Utah, is 106 miles and I'm not sure if you think Utah is the southwest. But whatever I'm on a Multistrada that gets 45-50mpg in the SW with a 5 gallon tank :p

@@aluisious Who's going to fill their tank to the tippy-top exactly before taking off on that stretch, and make sure not to rip on the throttle until they covered the entire stretch, to where there is a convenient service station waiting on the exact opposite side? That's called very inconvenient, and zero tolerance fuel capacity. And it's just stupid. ONE GALLON extra is a whole 6 pounds weight. How much detriment is ONE GALLON extra?

@aluisious You haven't been to Eastern Oregon & or western Navada. From Lakeview OR to Denio NV is 117 miles. Denio only has 87 octane. So, if you run 93 octane, it's 211 miles between Lakeview Oregon & Winnemucca Nevada... 211 miles of high desert hills & valleys.

I own a Super Duke and MV AGusta 800rr Pirelli edition. My second super Duke as that engine is awesome. The triple is great also like v4 with more character, Torque and high rpm horsepower. Both bikes hard to use 50% of the power. Like a keep saying, middle weights are best for the street. They make perfect horsepower for the street. Nice to use 70% of the power most the time with a middle weight. Even straightaways with 100% power triple digits too fast for the street. I like EV this review and great bike. I enjoyed your perspective in this review Troy. I'm sure I'd love riding the MT-10, but there would be no fawning over it in the garage afterward. It's just so hideous.....twice beaten with the ugly stick. I really don't care for the design language of Yamaha as of late. The FJR1300 is the big exception there. I had a 2015 ES model for a couple of years. It had classic lines, with a monster motor, and handled great. I'm really hoping Yamaha does a better job with the aesthetics of the upcoming R9. That is the bike I'm most interested in seeing in 2023.

Fuel consumption isn't great by comparison either. If I did a lot of track days that would probably sway me more in the MT10's direction but for me, my type of riding and my local roads the lighter more flickable MT09 SP is absolutely perfect and Its certainly quick enough for the road... for me at least.

Truthfully unless your racing or a professional most riders can not tell the difference in suspension let alone the brakes. If it stops the brakes are good. If bumps are not to harsh or suspension does not pogo stick, it’s good enough. 150 horsepower’s is plenty for the street. Most can not use 100 horsepower 100% of the time. There will always be halo bikes for the most recent tech. That will filter down. Horsepower wars starting up like cars. Do we need 400 horsepower motorcycles
