When getting up to speed using the engine it will be charging the battery. Ease off the power and gently put foot onto accelerator without increasing the speed. Usually, if just below 30 mph and if there is enough battery, it will flick onto electric only. It can even do this while on the motorway.
Yes often we see high 60s mph in EV mode, highest I think I've ever seen is 72 mph... Toyota optimistically say 80 mph is possible. 🤔Thanks again 👍ps we have a famous local landmark (Roseberry topping) known as Odin's hill in legend.
You are 100% correct Graham about the use of the EV button. I have a RAV4 Hybrid and it has the same capability. It seems nowadays the so-called expert car reviewer's no longer put much effort into fully researching the proper useage of all the relevant applications in the vehicles they test.
Oh good thanks for that Jeff, Id researched quite a bit on yaris (it's caths car) and thought why would it be there if it never worked?. yea poor research from reviewers as you say. Our first venture into hybrid... Its brilliant 😊
@@Grahamvfr Congratulations to you both on the purchase of the Yaris Hybrid. I agree they are brilliant. Toyota have been producing Hybrids now for decades and IMHO they own the game. The fuel economy is fantastic. Our Rav4 hybrid averages 5.3 litres for every 100 kilometres on the highway and 4.9 lotres in city driving. I'm in Australia so sorry I don't know off the top of my head what that is in MPG but I do know it's so much better than my previous vehicles. Happy motoring.
Thanks for this. Does that mean that the car will run on electricity automatically without me prompting it? Should I see a difference to how far I can drive on a tank of petrol because the car is switching to electric? I have been pressing the EV button to try and save petrol so thanks for putting me right with this video
Yes it constantly switches . mainly at low speeds, but often kicks in at higher speeds (I've seen it running everywhere at 70mph) on the flat with steady throttle, when battery is fullish. Thanks for watching,see also my ongoing mpg videos.
Eco mode. The car will only run on eV if there is enough battery, if there is an opportunity to run eV, the car will choose it. At a full charge it will only do about 3 mile EV only, but once you accelerate above say 25 mph, it will bring engine on anyway. As I said, selecting eV mode is only for quiet start up. @@hasanali-cx7tv ah I see. The yaris has eco, normal and power mode. They simply alter throttle response, but I believe eco mode, helps aircon run more economically. I use evo in town, normal on motorways and power when my partner is not in car haha. I'll be doing a, 5,000 mile review soon.
Hi.just saw your Yaris ev button video.Have just bought a 22 plate pressed the ev button and on the dash says hybrid battery low.Question will it charge itself by driving around or can you put it on some type of charge.TIA.regards Mark.
Well just re cap what I saud in video... The eV button is not for pressing when running. It's only for when you only want to move the car a little , perhaps on/off your drive etc and you don't want engine to kick in, as it may do if your engine is cold. However even if you press the eV button, but battery is low or it's very cold the engine may still start and you will get the message you saw. I find if I come home the night before and I've been on eV for last mile half or so, the eV button won't work next morning. Sonetimes if you press climate control off then press eV button, there's more chance it will work. Hope that makes sense. 😊

@@markstevens717 yep, it's constantly charging on and off automatically (as you can check by the monitor), remember its only a 0.8 kW (170 volt) battery which is small and full evs only do around 4 miles per kwh. We normally run eco on the mode button, but standard when on motorway. Power mode makes it quite brisk. Either way mpg (particularly in summer) is fantastic).
