I suppose it shouldn't be such a surprise to find different age parts on these old machines & they look so good, one would never know just by looking. A question for future clients perhaps, but it's most likely they won't know either. A great tutorial in the end though, thanks.

I have a 1970 TR6R with those forks. Easiest to drop whole fork legs out of the clamps then work on the bench. They are not easy to figure out.

So no damper rod in this type of fork? At least you have confirmed everything else is present & correct with the forks, so no bad thing. 👍

Do you have a video on how to replace a 73 Norton gas cap gasket?

No, I don't. Later caps have the gasket assy screwed in with a self tapping screw. It might be possible to drill out the center rivet and put it back together with a pop-rivet, or a screw. But if you try either of these PLEAS take the cap OFF THE TANK and try to fix it on the bench. Not on the tank!

So in the end were the forks just not filled with their oil?

Actually, there was oil in the forks. But the black plastic dampers may have been installed with the thick end up rather then down, so they may not have been providing the damping effect they should have. However, I can't say that for sure as I didn't specifically check them when I laid out the parts. However again, they appear to be facing up in the video. Anyway, we installed them with the thick end down and Kevin says the bike took local bumps just fine. The final opinion will be the owners.

@@fjdelmonte Well spotted though, you could easily have missed that. I have had a series of T120 & 140s but I think I could give them all up for that red BSA, it’s a stunner!
