Great Review! tumbs up! but in General really dissapointed. let me explain why. had within the last 3 years "5" different G14 gamibg laptops. always made a step up! thoght this is the last one I am gonna buy and again! year by year Asus provided unique selling propositions. 1) G14 GTx1650ti... was great but how about maybe more GPU power? 2) G14 RTX2060... great. totally fine but still no desktop Performance and why not being more mobile by having a 100W power delivery port? 3) G14 RTX3060... yes! great Performance and overall great Laptop. but by the time 6GB Vram maybe a little bit to low? How about more beautiful esthetics? 4) G14 Rx6800. yes! thats it! overall white colour... low to mid desktop gaming performance and 8GB Vram. Yes! thats it! totally fine will stick with it for the next years! 5) BÄM! G14 with a crazy powerful Rtx4080/4090 performing with 12GB Vram at a level of a high end RTX3080 gaming desktop! all of that in a 14-inch chassi? come on! crazy stuff. not even razer was able to handle this unbelievable performance package!! 6) G14 2024? :(... no way. sure... lighter... 200gr?! hm .. not really that much. 1.7kg to 1.5kg... almost the same. Thickness, yes great but the g14 was never really think. so instead thin, even more thin! ok... and now the real deal breaker! RTX4070 as the max GPU? are you serious Asus? a step back for a "gaming laptop"? where is your unique selling propostion? no longer in white available? OLED? sure great Colours but not interested in Burn in and burn out!! I will stick to my beloved mini LED screen!! no long term damage!! and last but not least! 8GB Vram for a gaming laptop in 2024? ok... we are done asus. 3 year old game as Cyperpunk in 1440p is consuming already 10GB VRam! sorry to say but this is a big fail. Succesor worse than the predessesor. Almost apple style. Also the strange "stupid animatrix strip" on the top! what a hell? why should anybody use it? absolutely sense and meaningless. yes it is unique, but unique piece of sh***. Now confirms my choice to go for an G14 RTX4080 even more. maybe this was and will be the best G14 asus has ever made I think they will stick to the new design in the future, and therefore we have to deal with the fact, that there will be no more powerful GPUs included anymore. small powerful gaming beast byebye!

Thinner 👏 ≠ 👏higher 👏 quality 👏 Why would asus lose its own sight on their product identity? All i see here compared to 2023 is a potential burn in oled display with lower brightness compared to the mini led version of the 2023 model, a capped option of gpus since you can only get up to a 4070, they removed the vapor chamber, made it even thinner (worse temps respectively to 2023), removed their original animematrix idea and decided to put a tacky 50% of the new "X" twitter logo single color led strip, and i could keep going. Only positive thing here is that the 2023 models (which you didn't mention in this video for your convenience in making the 2024 version sound better compared to 2022) will get cheaper. Good video anyways

I've never click a video faster before LOL. But dang, how they gonna downgrade so many different aspects of the G14? Soldered RAM is a dealbreaker for me, battery size went from 76wh to 73wh, topping out at 4070, refresh rate from 144hz to 120hz, vapor chamber to pipes. Although there are a few nice upgrades like speakers, OLED screen, thinner form factor, etc. It sacrificed too much and now it looks more like a Razer Blade 14. I have the 2021 G14 and was thinking possible upgrade but now I'm gonna wait or see if there's a good deal for the 2023 version.

I just bought the G16 2023 one , 2 days ago. I love it so far. It has the i7 and 1TB, It had the Nvidia card which I like. I hope it will last 4 years and then I'll run Linux once I get something with 32gb of ram. This is my first ASUS product...I think they're doing things like no one else. Can't wait for what the future holds!

Very nice design, but a step backward in functionality 😂 like WHAT soldered 32gb max no upgradeable on a premium high performance laptop and max out on 4070, What were they thinking! makes the 4090 variant of last year even more valuable.

This G14 2024 looks exciting though. I'm intrigued. I have the Zephyrus G14 2023. I'm about to do a review about it but its kinda late for it

reliability has always been an issue with these things. Had one and it broke on me; many people online also had that issue. These are literal unicorns, but quality control and issues plagues these machines. I took it to a repair shop and they even said this is the most common laptop that comes in for problems. If you get lucky; these things are incredible!

This might be the very best computer that ships to the market in 2024. From an engineering standpoint, it's absolutely bonkers! and I'm a Mac user.

Idk the G14 was already thin enough and IMO when the Anime Matrix was switched off it looked cool whereas this new led stripe looks like it was added out of necessity to just do something with the chassis design. I have the 2022 model (mostly thanks to your videos on it) and IMO the feel of the chassis is so great. After using MacBooks for more than 10 years the aluminium body doesn't feel that exciting anymore.

Looks like a downgrade from the 2022-2023 g14 models in my opinion. Soldered RAM, o USB-C 240W charging, proprietary plug, worse cooling on the g14(no vapour chamber), worse battery. That's a shame, oh well.

I have the 4090 g14. And took advantage of the open ram slot to get to 64gbs ram. Honestly feels like a downgrade. I buy the g14 because of the form factor. Sucks they nerfed it

Soldered ram? Too bad. Guess I'll stick w/ my framework where I'll end up upgrading the motherboard/CPU/RAM/storage/screen whenever the time is right.

hope they make one without that childish slash. Not everyone want's to buy it to flash people at coffee shops or school professors, while one wants that performance.

I'm so hyped for the new G14 but as every gen releases, prices get higher and higher. The OLED screens looks so good, but I worry about screen burn in for those long gaming sessions or for school work. And ive always admired the g14 for trying to break boundaries as a 14 inch gaming laptop, but not being too expensive for a laptop that fits so much in such a small form factor. But ever since the 2022 gen, the price is too expensive, might just wait for prices too fall

I actually prefer the design of the 2023 G14 over the 2024

These are BEAUTIFUL, damn near my perfect laptop. I love how much they cleaned up the design and gave them that minimal "macboook" look. If these could live up to the same battery life as the 2023 model, then I dont think I could be happier with these besides a future model having something like a qd oled display.

Dell XPS, Rog Zephyrus, HP Spectre, all soldered RAM. I hope you do reviews of laptops in 2024 that are still upgradeable. This trend is frustrating. It even might make sense to switch to Mac, where yes, it's more expensive, but you can get massive amounts of unified RAM (especially for AI).

With the 2023 models, the G14 was the most instereting, but now the G16 seems to be the one to get. A laptop that weights 1.9kg with a 4060/70, 90whr battery and 2 nvme slots is pretty dope. Also the fact that Asus is one of the few manufactures that make a 16in laptop without a numpad, so its got a centered keyboard/mouse (Awesome). However, OLED? Really? I hope they still make it with a IPS or the Mini-Led from last year. Nothing wrong with OLED, but its just another thing that will go wrong faster that it should.

4:20 "Don't let the speaker grill fool you" I thought you were going to say "they both still suck" lol. Speakers are something that windows laptops seem to never be able to get right for some reason. Huge downgrade for the G14, 90W 8gb 4070 with that resolution, soldered ram just to be slightly thinner. They should have at least gone with 7500 if they had to solder but skipped on that.

I currently own a g15 2022 model and a year ago june 2023 the screen had many coloured lines appear on it . I was really worried and took it too the service center . Because it was inside the warranty period they changed the screen for free . When i asked for why the screen suddenly had this problem , he said that the most replaced part in these laptops are the screen . So i am worried about the new designs . They are much thinner (which means less air enters ) , side vent holes have been taken away . These are really bad descisions when it comes to gaming laptops

I think you accidentally released your review video 3 hours too early. Seeing that all other big tech RU-vidrs released their review videos at the exact same minute at midnight GMT+0, I can only assume there was an embargo in place.

They look cool, but im not sure if its worth the jump from the 2023 version.

Nice new refreshed model. Personally, I dont mind solder ram, as long its 32 gb in base model and priced reasonably.

Will always signal boost big, thin and light laptops WITHOUT a numberpad. This looks awesome and I hope other manufacturers go this route or at least offer the option this year.

I love the improved speakers and the nicer screen on it, the glossy OLED instead of the the matte LCD with the cheap feeling plastic frame around it is certainly a step up aesthetically.... not sure if I'd say the same thing about the exterior design though. Of course its all subjective, but I did love the older design, feel like it treaded the correct line between looking sleek (unlike most other gaming laptops) while not being too bland and boring, meaning it stood out compared to macbooks, zenbooks, dells, HPs, etc. This feels like it just went all in on making yet another 'bland' all metal laptop. Im sure the material quality is improved but it feels like it slightly lost its soul with the redesign (also, sidenote, but the gpu downgrade is crazy, going from potentially having a 4090 w/ vapour chamber cooling to a 4070 at only 70W is a massive reduction in performance, even if the old chassis could never fully handle the 125W 4090)

dangg, I have always wanted G14 since 2020 Edition out. But never actually owned it till now. I want to trade my macboom m2 with this but I like laptop with good portability and decent battery

Highest spec GPU for G14 is now 4070 which means you can't get a new G14 with a GPU with more than 8GB of VRAM which is bad. IMO if you gonna spend this kind of money the system should be able to handle games for the next 4-5 years (with optimal settings of course) and 8GB of VRAM is problematic even today for growing number of titles. Also 8GB of VRAM is problematic for folks who like to use their GPU for AI accelerated workflows which is pretty popular now and will only get more popular so this is a big miss.

When you receive the whole retail model, kindly include information about battery life and performance in your review. A quick question about g16, is there an option to lower the refresh rate from 240hz to 120hz to get longer battery life? as I will not be using 240hz while I'm not gaming, but also I can't use 60hz because it feels dated to go back on 60hz.

Nice design but I think I would have preferred the 2023 design on the G14 with upgraded CPU/GPU, a mini LED display on lower end models and the black colorway for US consumers.

These look amazing in everything except the price. This will be super expensive.

Asus makes good hardware but their software sucks. Armoury crate works almost like the McAfee antivirus and has control on literally every aspect of the computer. And it also sucks a lot of Ram storage. And its too buggy and glitchy. And the Asus's quality is really horrible. I bought an Asus Tuf Dash F15 laster year and one of the hinges have given up on me. The screws start to get loose on their own. And tge trackpad is busted. Even though i have given extra attention and care to my laptop it's still Falling apart on me.

Dont have full size SD card on G14 but a microSD port is clearly a di*k move. Because you know for sure they can put a full size SD card and G14 become the ultimate media creator laptop.

Only upgrade is the screen everything else is a massive downgrade including the design. Ill wait for the 4080 and 4090 g14s to go on a discount or buy the Zenbook 14 pro 120hz oled 4070 which is better than the 2024 g14 in every way.

Im 6 minutes into the Video and the comparisons so far have all been to the 2 year old 2022 model. I sure hope the relevant comparison to the 2023 model are coming soon cause display, speakers etc were also improved in the 2023 model.

lol finally a premium feel and looking laptop that doesnt lose out on specs for thinness. I wanted a macbook style windows laptops, and the only ones were the Razer ones and sort of the yoga series. But razers were overpriced af, and Yogas just didnt pack the specs and looks i wanted. cant wait for these to release.

That's a gaming laptop that looks good enough to be a business laptop.

My question is: Would you consider the G16 a good Macbook Pro alternative? My intentions are content creation and gaming, which is the limiting factor on a Macbook besides the Apple OS. I absolutely love Apple's hardware, but would like to stick to Windows with more options.

i hate those crammed arrow keys... i don't understand why they couldn't keep them full size. I wouldn't mind regular size arrow keys over aesthetics. I am watching this on a G14, 2021 model and yes I own the one with the tacky led display, as i preordered. As a college professor, i put up some important update during lecture such as 'silence please', 'no copying', 'keep your phones off'

Best Laptop 2024

Great Review Matt, this laptop the perfect balance between a MacBook Pro for creators & a massive chunky, dedicated gaming laptop for hardcore gamers. This falls bang in the middle & still looks stylish.

These look so much better than the previous years except for the soldered RAM which is annoying that everyone is going to that but they make these things to be e-waste nowadays with prioritizing purchasing new hardware as opposed to repurposing and upgrading.

I love how thin they made these laptops this year. I would have preferred mini-LED since it gets much brighter, though these OLED numbers are great. Looks like about as good an upgrade as it can be without new GPUs. Still very happy with my 2023 M16 and I don't plan to upgrade soon 😃

Soldered ram is a huge miss. XPS 14 and 16 are soldered too. Seems like all the sleek windows laptops are no longer upgradable .

7:40 the problem I have with this is that even if the 4080 is power limited, it crucially has 12gb of vram VS 8gb on the 4070. I have the 4080 g14 and that extra vram is the main reason I bought it. 8gb of vram for a 1600p display, let alone 1800p is definitely going to struggle in modern games without using aggressive dlss and lowered settings.

That slash is unnecessary. You don't really know what's going on with it. The anime from previous series is better because at least you can customize it with your name or a date/time. But other than that, all improvements, slimmer and better performance are good. Just get rid of that slash design.

I'm thinking the Razer Blade 14 this year is going to be the better laptop. They added two RAM slots in 2023 and while it was expensive, now it has vastly more upgradability than the G14. And now with the GPU options being limited on the G14, I think there's now a strong argument for the Blade 14.

does anyone can recomend something with nice design like this and small and light but half price hahaha. at the moment using old asus S200E and love it still, but maybe need somthing a bit newer

I have the 2022 version of g14 but i have questions about Thermals and performance as the older models tend to get hotter when u push it. They are following the design philosophy of Razer in my opinion but looks more premium. And will it be worth the price paying for that will be a good question to ask.

I wish they would make the ZEPHYRUS the way it used to be...

Some likes and dislikes here. The LED ditch on the lid feels more "look at me" then the anime matrix. I don't love or hate it, but if I had one I'd just leave it off always which then seems awkward having a diagonal strip on the lid for no reason. Typing this from my 2021 G14 now and always leave the anime matrix off. And though I'm liking what I see with the vapor chamber on the 16, I really dislike the soldered ram and find it a massive bummer. Reserving judgement, but it's a mixed bag from me. I'll just say that if I wanted something I couldn't upgrade myself, then I'd just get a Mac. Wondering how well that vapor chamber cools an i9 and 4080. Anyway, thanks for the early look!

115w tgp?! Wtf. It is better to pay more and get Asus m16 with 150w tgp and EXPANDABLE ram or Strix G16.. or get Lenovo with 175w...

The 50 MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION: Will ASUS-ROG end up b0rking these units, from shoddy soldering/BIOS issues, as well? Asking this, as I made the mistake of buying the last 2 generations. Both ended up dying within a year.

making a new power connector is so stupid when they'll be forced to go USB-C when laptops fall under the EU's USB-C mandate in 2026. USB-C PD 3.1 can handle 240W so I just don't understand.

I really don't understand the non upgradable ram. A single DDR5 memory module can already work in Dual Channel as far as I know. They could just put 32GB single modules in the device and leave the rest open with an expansion slot. Not that you really need more than 32GB in most cases. But these laptops can be specced out with a 4090. Someone who buys this or actually needs this also likely wants or needs more ram that 32GB, which is preatty mediocore nowdays. That is just 100 dollars shelf price worth of memory in a several thousand dollar laptop. The Intel CPUs support up to 96GB. I know the intend is to make people buy the more expensive model when they need more ram. But 99% of all people will not upgrade their ram anyways and just buy the model with as much ram as they might need. Having upgradable ram would not compete with a non upgradable strategy. I would argue that having it soldered even reduces sales (even though insignificantly) because either people don't care or they do care and won't buy the device due to that. And switching out a 16GB chip with a 32GB one in production can't be any logistical challenge. These laptops come in like 20 different shapes and sizes if you look at all globally avaiable models.

Reviewing only a laptop design and games is not serious. What about practical applications, e.g. software development, machine learning... 3D modelling?
