2024 BMW F 900 GS ADVENTURE Engine & Performance
The ‘900’ in its name is the clue to the biggest change to the F 900 GS in 2024. Gone is the old 853cc parallel twin, which made 95hp, and in its place comes an 895cc version with 105hp on tap. Based on the engine already used in the F 900 R and F 900 XR, the new version has a 2mm bigger bore than the old 850, filled with forged alloy pistons where there used to be cast ones, and a higher compression ratio of 13.1:1. The result is an extra 10hp at its 8,500rpm peak and a fatter torque curve, now maxing out at 68.6 lb-ft and 6.750rpm.
A lower final drive ratio than the base F 900 GS means that the Adventure’s top speed is reduced, but also that despite being a substantially heavier bike it actually gets off the line faster - hitting 62mph in 3.7 seconds, compared to 3.8 seconds for the standard model. BMW will only say the top speed is ‘over’ 124mph, and that’s probably more than enough for anyone on a bike this size and weight.
‘Rain’ and ‘Road’ modes come as standard, along with BMW’s Dynamic Traction Control system, but you can also add the Riding Modes Pro package that includes a trio of additional settings (Dynamic, Enduro and Enduro Pro) and lets you pre-select up to four modes and assign them to a button on the bars.
2024 BMW F 900 GS ADVENTURE Handling & Suspension (inc. Weight & Brakes)
BMW hasn’t messed with the welded, sheet steel frame of the GS Adventure, but it gets the same new Showa forks as the 2024 F 900 GS. These are 43mm units with 230mm of travel (a distance that’s an upgrade for the base bike, but unchanged for the Adventure). They’re fully adjustable for compression and rebound damping as well as preload, and matched by a rear shock that also offers preload and rebound adjustment, along with 215mm of travel.

Just picked one up and put my first 100 miles on it. I can confirm that the weight does take some getting used to but isn't bad at all after a couple of hours riding the bike. It feels surprisingly nimble in the corners once you get going. Quick shifter is definitely seamless. Can't wait to finish breaking it in to really see what this thing is about!

As far as I see, the first test ride of the adventure on yt. I wonder why there are not more. Awesome bike, but the weight is a point regarding to the engine power. The question is: buying a nearly new used 1250 GS, that you nearly can get for this price or the 900 adv. Well, there is a summer to think about😊. Thanks for the upload man!!
@IdealBike
@IdealBike 3 месяца назад
The answer you'll find it easier after you'll test ride it, that's my suggestion. No one on the RU-vid can tell if a bike will suits you 😊. I will test ride also the lighter version, that's my favourite from BMW.

I have it's predecessor, the 850GSA. It is heavy but once you are moving at any speed the weight disappears. You just have to be mindful that it comes back at a stop. I did some pretty careful comparisons to the AT adventure sport. I don't think there really is a significant weight difference once the bikes are comparably equipped. It was also cheaper here in Washington USA than an AT adventure sport.

It's a great machine no doubt about that, but the one with you cannot go back... 😊 It's up to each single person. I've enjoyed riding it, great technology, still not my type of bike. That doesn't mean anything, everyone has its own machine that he can connect with.

Great review and thank you for it. I have a question about seat height. Although this bike had a standard seat and you, as you mentioned, are 180cm tall, did you have any problems reaching the ground. Do you think that you needed at some point lower seat or this seat height is fine for your size?
@IdealBike
@IdealBike 3 месяца назад
Thanks for the comment. Before I answer the question I will tell you that you can make it lower according to BMW directly from the electronic suspension. Seat height without load, 875 mm (Lower Seat : 805 mm, Very Low Seat: 825 mm, low seat : 835 mm, double saddle : 860 mm, Rallye Seat : 890 mm).

The difference in weight compared to the AT comes from BMW overkill of the euro5 compliant exaust chain and the cylinder (engine) material : classic steel sleeves in BMW and aluminium sleeves in AT. Also the weight declared by BMW is giving with all accessories you saw and full tank. So, everything is debatable.
@IdealBike
@IdealBike 3 месяца назад
The weight helps on the highway a lot, still you need more power and skills off-road with luggage.

Such a shame BMW have decided to make their bikes heavier, I’ve got the 2014 GSA1200 and I’m wanting a lighter bike, was contemplating the F900 but seems pointless swapping as it’s not far off the weight of my old GSA. Thanks for great video btw 👍

Thanks for your review! IMO, it's a nice machine (glad to hear BMW seemed to improve the performance of the quick-shifter). However, at approximately $18K U.S. (the way I optioned it), I'd be making some "serious" A/ B comparisons with other/similar-priced motorcycles in this category.

Africa Twin Adventure Sports 2024, manual transmission and manual adjustable suspension,starts from 18399 euro without any accessories and has 240kg (remember it doesn't have any crashbar or luggage rack). So it's not lighter and equivalent accessorized goes over 22k euro compared to 17,5k for the GS.

How do you protect yourself from the weight ? Well, learn how to ride 1st of all . The bike shouldn't really feel heavy until you lose control . I'm coming from a Harley Davidson riding. The weight really isn't a big issue till you have to pick it up . If you do the suspension on the Transalp, it will keep up with the KTM 890 all day long and without the heat cooking your leg . Big Rock Moto did a full build on the Transalp . His suspension cost him 3200 hundred dollars. But that was top-notch suspension . You could have gone with fewer cost parts that would have worked as well . Personally, I think the Transalp is worth it . 12k out the door 3200 for the upgraded suspension 15 to 17k for a nice and fun ADV bike that can compete with KTM/HUSKY/TUREG/NORTON/TRIUMPH and so forth .
@IdealBike
@IdealBike 3 месяца назад
Thanks for your inputs, appreciate it. First I'll test the standard suspension with my ZERO skills off-road, afterwards when my skill level increases from ZERO to something I'll think about the suspension upgrades. Greetings

@IdealBike And sorry I wasn't saying you can't ride yourself, Sir . I meant no disrespect by that statement . It was, in general, even to myself . But I liked the Transalp myself . Really, I'm a Honda fan . I like Hondas more than Harley's . Shhhhh, don't tell anyone ..... God bless

All BMW motorcycles are assembled in the Berlin plant. The engine, yes ,is made in China, at Loncin, BY BMW. I would make a difference between these brands. Even between CF Moto 800 MT and KTM 790 Adventure there is a big difference, even if they are fully built in the same place.
