Not understanding GM's rationale of getting rid of the ZL1 and all the Camaro to go electric. Wimps, Keep the American Muscle cars alive and stop being political. Let the market control the Camaro faith and not the Green Committee.
The biggest reason production of the Sixth Gen has ended production is more than likely the increasingly strict EPA standards being pushed by the current administration. GM being fined for both Camaro and Corvette, and they’re not discontinuing the Vette. A 7th Gen is coming as GM has gone on record that Camaro’s story isn’t ending. The real question is what will it come back as. Even GM is scaling back a bit on the EV push so I’m not sure they even know yet.
Should’ve went out with some kind of bang! Z28 would’ve been perfect. I wouldn’t have bought one but would’ve been nice. I have thought about buying an SS in the future and putting a LT5 in it just like you said tho
Always loved the Camaro which always seemed like a bit of an underdog even at its peak. This was a very good review, the exterior shots are a great addition!
It depends, I track the cars quite a bit. The six-speed is more entertaining to drive. On the road if you want to get the little backfires in the exhaust it's very easy with the rev match. On the track it's fun to go through the gears with the no lift shift, something you can't do on the road without likely ending up in jail. But on the track the automatic transmission is flawless, it always seems to be in the right year and keep the engine very close to redline and at the max power. It is certainly a faster car on the track. The automatic on the road is less entertaining to drive but easy to drive fast and you don't have to pay attention to it. Also I liked that my wife could drive it when she wanted to, she doesn't know how to drive a stick and doesn't want to learn. Those are my pros and cons. Either manual or automatic are well done and awesome in different ways
I just watched a video a few days ago that said they are reconsidering making the Z/28 with LT6 with either 6 speed manual with 600hp or 8 speed DC with 650hp for 2025 MY. I truly hope they do, I’m still mad they didn’t send the ZL1 off with the LT5 from C7 ZR1, they didn’t even give it the LT4+ from CT5-V BW and Escalade V, they also could have put the LT2 from C8 in the SS/LT1, but call LT1 the LT2. They don’t care if it’s not a C8 or an EV though.
I honestly think they understood that nothing was beating the corvette so they kinda let the Camaro sit to the side and just get some regular upgrades to keep it fresh and “new” but they for sure should’ve made a zr1 type of variant with 750+. Would’ve been dissgustinggg
ya I saw a video of them talking of making 2025 camaro with the new corvette engine. just like one of the guys that comment, gm would not let the camaro be stronger or faster than the corvette. fingers crossed
@@samholcombe3129 GM could have made an SS 396 with the 6.6 gas truck block if they wanted too. I can't figure out why we didn't get more trim levels and engine options in the generation.
It’s crazy to think about. As we’re typing this we’re just a day away now, glad you managed to snag one. The 24s are nearly impossible to get from what I’ve heard. This owner only got one by trading his C8 to the dealer in exchange for them moving him up on the allocation list, because the dealer was out of C8s.
@@running2redline These constraints are a mess bro,Let me tell you a better one : Where i live there is a single chevy dealer for the entire nation and they got a single allocation for 2023 ZL1’s Literally the only 2023 model year in the country and they marked it up to 100k USD and i couldn’t pass it up just my luck
That’s far crazier, 100k markup is a lot. But at least you now have a 1 of 1 in the whole country. That’s absolutely sick and the perfect car to have that with!
I compared the engine exhaust sound to some of the 2024 $180K and Up MB AMG S63 and AMG GT 63's. Not much difference. Matter of fact, that Camaro sounds better.
Thank you for this excellent and respectful review. The 6th gen Camaro certainly deserved a different fate or at the very least a proper sendoff by GM. I will hold on to my beloved 2018 for as long as possible, and probably never buy a GM vehicle again.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, it’s a shame to see it go, and I can’t blame you for straying away from GM. It’s unfortunate the direction they’ve went, but at least we experienced the final and likely best iteration of the Camaro, definitely hold on to it! Thanks for watching
GM listen to me all you had to do was drop the 755hp LT5 in with the DCT and the hybrid front drive and the car would have gone out like a legend lot in for the roll cage and the interchiller
The ZL1 is a definite collectors item and the last of the old school muscle cars. The emphasis is definitely on MUSCLE 💪 with this rocketship. The car is at a great price point for the performance and quality on offer with the car the complete package not just an LT4 engine stuffed in a chassis. The Camaro is a great car whether it's the manual or automatic V8 versions and will be remembered fondly. I personally don't like the 1LE package for a street driven car as it is way to harsh for the under maintained roads in the USA... It's a sad day for me knowing the Camaro in it's current iteration is going to disappear. 😎🇦🇺😟👍
Thanks for the video. And thanks for not harping on the outward visibility. It's something that you get used to after driving in it for a few hundred miles. One thing I love not getting used to though is that supercharger whine.
Absolutely spot on. Having owned a Camaro at one point, I never got why people complained about it so much. It’s definitely something you just get used to quickly then forget about. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
I ordered a 2013 2SS RS with all options and have really enjoyed it these past 10+ years. I don't drive it a lot, it only has 30K on it, but every time I think about selling it, I just have to listen to that dual mode exhausted 6.2 L and I come back to my senses.
Why couldn't they just put the hybrid V8 that they already made for the corvette in this... GM is fucking stupid for letting their most iconic car die like this
To young to buy a Camaro really been the only muscle car that I’ve dreamed of but with all the electric car bs, the dream of buying one is fading away and hopefully not but looks to be turning into a dream after all😢
I personally think the best bang for buck with a Camaro is the 2010-2015 Gen 5 SS. A good one can be found for 20, and they remind me more of the original Camaro than the 6th gen. It also has the LS3, which is automotive gold. Stay persistent and you’ll make it happen, good luck!
Anyone else think the zl1 looks bad? I just don’t like the face of it. Looks like it’s trying to be something it’s not. I think the LT1 and SS look the best
Lower the CEO wadges about 28 million a year then you could lower the price of the Camaro and keep the Camaro nobody needs 29 million a year to live like she gets i would love to have a new ZL1 but cant afford one i wish i could a used ZL1 hate to see the Camaro gone 😢
Unfortunately I think the issue is much more cost of parts, the CEO wage is just a tiny spec in GMs total income. Which would mean it will likely never be changed as the prices of metals has gone wild. A used one would be about 55k at best, best of luck and I hope you eventually get one!
You seem to have forgotten the Panther collectors edition package on the ZL1. That would be the one to have. And just like last time GM has failed to advertise the Camaro brand and has killed an icon in the car community. Just look at what dodge has done with the challenger platform with very little changes. Especially with the chasis. They advertised the crap out of that brand and look at the sales versus the Camaro. I have had 2 4th gens, a 2010 ss, a 2012 ZL1 and now have a 2017 HBM ZL1 that I ordered new. Love the Camaro, but hate GM for not treating it as the icon that it is. But they would rather put all their money in EVs. Waiting to see who will bail them out of bankruptcy this time. Probably China again.
Completely fair, I love the Camaro and daily a vette, but I must admit I am not at all a fan of the direction GM is going. Hoping this is another phase out like between the 4th and 5th Gen but this time feels different unfortunately. Thanks for watching
Great review/Commentary. I picked up a 2019 ZL1 when released that year. Roto fab and larger throttle body to get near 700 hp without a tune and enjoy. It's brutal, but refined. Loud, but subdued when needed, and looks damn imposing on the road with very comfortable seats.
Great review video on the greatest American muscle car!!! I was surprised that you didn’t mention the 2024 ZL1 Collector Edition. Limited to only 350 units, that car is awesome! Very high demand, and most qualified buyers who wanted one, didn’t get one.
These are great cars with a well engineered chassis. Id skip the track focused edition, get the manual and go with the excellent magna ride option. To my eyes, looks great as well.
If people would boycott this nonsense and stop buying cars that are being forced on us the companies would have no choice but to make gas vehicles. Grow some balls people!
The ZL1 is a real masterpiece and the best performing muscle car for me. Glad to own one of these last great cars full of emotion and rough driver feeling, especially with the 6MT.
This final generation was one of the most dialed in machines I’ve ever had the chance to drive. It’s certainly going out on a high note, hang onto yours!
My guess would be how dangerous the car could become, the rear end is super loose with 650 and may have been a liability for GM to increase. That said, I agree, a final edition with the LT5 from the C7 ZR1 would have been awesome. Thanks for watching!
The 1le is definitely not a more advanced suspension. It’s a dumbed down version from the magnaride. The 1le package is actually a downgrade from the ZL1. They just have people convinced it’s worth more because they add all the gaudy canards, wing, wheels carbon fiber everywhere stuff. It may be slightly better on the track but not for the road. Where as the zl1 is great for both.
Its spring rates are far stiffer, you could argue that’s a downgrade in terms of manufacturing cost as it is a fixed suspension rather than full magnaride. But in terms of performance the suspension is certainly more advanced from the additional rigidity, the lap times back that up, where the 1LE is far quicker.
@@running2redline my point being the 1LE is only good at one thing. The zl1 is good at everything. Unless you are just buying a track car …. The 1le is pointless and paying more for it is laughable.
Is there really a point to this vid? The zl1 6th gen camaro has been the same ever since 2016/17. Same looks and performance. Yes there was a modern exterior and internal tech change. But thats it
The main point is to celebrate how great this car was before it goes away forever. The small technically changes are irrelevant to the legacy it will be leaving. Thanks for watching
WHY WOULD THEY DISCONTINUE THW CAMARO ITS SO POPULAR AND COMMON IM GENUINELY VERY MAD ABT THAT. I’m glad you posted this video so we will never forget the legacy Camaro has created. R.I.P. Chevrolet Camaro
@@running2redline hopefully I want a Camaro so bad and I watched this video cause I’m trying to figure out whether I should get the SS or the zl1. Which would be better in your opinion? I feel the SS is better and more practical but idek
I think the ZL1 will hold value better, but the SS is far cheaper and easier to drive flat out without sliding or spinning, as well as not reaching jail speeds instantaneously. If you don’t care about the extra power and the 455 in the SS is fine, then save yourself the money. I think a test drive would be the best way to find out if you are left craving more after hopping in an SS. Good luck with the search and hope you find one you love!
As soon as I heard that Chevy was done with the Camaro : I turned in my Lexus and got my 2024 Camaro Z1 as quickly as possible. I still don’t believe this is it- but if it is, my driving mine until 😂the wheels 🛞 fall off.👍
I wanted to order a 24 ZL1, but no local dealer could get an allocation. (south Texas) Some couldn't even order a Camaro at all. I was working with one dealership who had a Camaro stuck in intermediate transport hell, and couldn't even answer if they would ever receive it. I was persistent through September to January, and finally in early February, they got a message that it would arrive in two weeks. I rushed in to make the deal, and it was a 24 ZL1 convertible! I took delivery in March and have about 500 miles on it now. Amazing car!
I was thinking of getting a ZL1 but since parts are gonna be much more expensive I can’t justify the price they’re being sold rn. I’m sure they’ll get more expensive down the line as well I wanna get something that when I buy it I can go. Ok yea that’s what it’s worth I can pay that.
The dealer markups have been atrocious, this owner only secured one by a trade. Great cars, but this market is indeed brutal. Thanks for watching, and good luck if you try to grab one.
@@running2redline Feels like we're restricted on what to buy now. I wanna keep having these sport cars not some weird "futuristic" noises that ev's make.
Hopefully that demand drives manufacturers to keep going, I feel the same way. There has to be a better solution, and whoever comes up with it will make a lot of money
When they discontinue the Camaro and start making electric ones and if the sales drop, do you guys think that they would start making V8 versions again? i need to know if that's possible man it's so sad :(((
It’s hard to say, if the Corvette didn’t exist I would think that the super low sales would drive them back to a V8. However, with most of the focus shifting to the Corvette and the popularity of the C8, they might feel just fine letting it go. I personally like to think they’ll eventually follow demand and bring it back like the gap between the 4th and 5th generations.
Sometimes Miata really is always the answer. If you ever hit the track though the full capacity of this car is truly mind bending. Thanks for watching!
A lot of truth to that. If you have an A10 transmission ZL1 the car it's almost, dare I say, too quiet and boring unless you are constantly stabbing the gas pedal or using the paddles to downshift all the time.
