The original Telsa Model S with 85kwh battery cost $90k in 2012 dollars and had a max charge rate of 90kw. You can get a equinox ev for $42k in 2024 dollars with a 85kwh battery and can charge at 150kw. So prices will come down for EV pick up trucks too in the future.

I don’t understand this truck at all. Way too heavy and expensive. If you need to pull heavy, buy a diesel for less. Weight of a 1 ton, payload of a 1/2 ton, who can resist? Instead, why not go with a small commuter truck, Maverick sized, that can’t tow more than a utility trailer, but it costs $40k instead of 100k. I can’t see how the Silverado EV can ever be a volume seller. Thanks for the review, Steve.
@magnavoxfifty

The real answer is because the Liberal Democrats have invested heavily in this technology and if they don't force you to buy it with made up clean air laws then they stand to lose billions. Not millions but Billions. Pelosi and the gang can't let your ignorant ass stop them from making insane fortunes. This will all fail by the way and then you will be forced to buy back all the stuff they outlawed and it will be worse than what we have now and they will of course invest again and rape you on the back end. That is why channels like this lose all credibility. You can tell there is a gun to their heads talking about this idiocy. Because ANYONE who knows and loves trucks would take a torch to this abomination.

I did not like the look of the front end until I saw the work truck. Not only does it look better, but the 18" wheels are a huge improvement. I'm wondering if the mid bar is removeable when you open the mid gate and remove the rear window. At 2:45 it looks like it is removed. Otherwise I don't get why you would remove the rear window. The work truck would be my choice, but at $80,000 I don't see me replacing my current truck any time soon. With how I use a truck an EV would be a viable option.

@Cloud30000
@Cloud30000 Месяц назад
It’s nice (especially when towing) when you are stuck merging from an off ramp with traffic that would rather let you side-swipe them (lane traffic has right of way over on-ramp merging traffic) then slow down and let you in. Niche situation for most, but still important to consider. When not dealing with traffic, a torque converter and appropriate gearing can get you all the torque you need to get moving from pretty much any situation, just spread out over a longer time as the mechanics keep adjusting to modify/increase your torque at a given speed. It’s why an old 70’s Mack truck can tow so much even at highway speeds, but takes forever to accelerate compared to the rest of traffic. Nowadays, automatics are so smooth and have so many gears that it already feels like you have instant continuous torque (at least if you aren’t comparing it to an EV).

Why can’t manufacturers make a brake pedal with a light resistance in the regen range, then an increased resistance in the mechanical range so you can feel in the pedal when you transition but make the actual vehicle braking smooth throughout the entire range? It would be the easy compromise between one pedal driving and normal driving, where you can tell when you are at max regen while braking and thus hold it there until you need more brake power and press harder for the brake pads to kick in smoothly.

I hate the seats in all the truck brands. I'm shocked at how clueless manufacturers have been when it comes to comfort and ergonomics. Something simple like extending the length on the seat to cover more leg area (hamstring support....?), they still have not integrated, but yet I can buy a car or SUV for a fraction of the cost and it has more comfortable seats. RAM in my opinion has the most comfortable seats just because of the length, the seat is roughly 2 to 3 inches from my knees offering a lot more support, where as Ford and GM have shorter seats. Those short seats end up putting more pressure on your lower back and especially on longer drives it becomes uncomfortable.

I'm not an EV enthusiasts or anything like that, but I do understand reality and the engineering and construction of an electric truck is of course superior to a ICE truck...The only issue is how it gets power...Battery technology is really not where it needs to be yet to make electric vehicles a no brainer...I actually really like that Silverado and have caught some flak for embracing it...But as a former Navy mechanic, I really don't care who gives me flak about it because the advantages from a wrench head standpoint is clear and obvious...But I would not have an electric vehicle as my only daily now or ever...It will only be a support or backup 2nd vehicle...So far it looks like GM has learned from the electrical issues from their Hummer EV and made the correction in this Silverado so that it wouldn't leave you stranded with zero power...That's my biggest issue, even though there is a process to get it back up again that the owner can do in just a few minutes, but it should never have to come to that...I can see myself in fantasy land owning one of those Silverados to sit next to my tried and trusty 2016 Buick Enclave ICE vehicle which is my number one driver...

At $100k they are never selling these to anybody but, people in the city like me. Tell you what I am not buying any EV truck or car give me a GM diesel powered 2500 with max tow for my $100k. IMO the only way EV trucks make sense for normal is if they increase the battery warranty significantly. 100k truck with a battery warranty of only 8 years or 100k miles. Most people will be scared to own one of these outside of warranty. Which means resale is going to be horrible. Who can afford to gamble 50k on a 4-5 year old truck with 101k miles on it? Lets be realistic. EVs currently are throw away vehicles. Meaning when the battery goes, repair/replacement costs more than the vehicle is worth. Ironic that they push them as green. Lots of older vehicles still on the road with their second or third engine. Almost no one is going to be willing to put a 30-40k battery into a 5 year old truck that's worth maybe 50k. Worse, Imagine buying a used one and owing 30k on it only to be told it needs a 30k repair to be usable. The warranty needs to be better. At least 160k miles 12 years
@JD-yx7be
@JD-yx7be Месяц назад
You can put a used engine in a used truck, why not a used battery in a used ev. Diagnostic tools can measure the battery health. Some people have already replaced their dead 24kwh leaf battery with a used 30,40, or 60kwh battery. With longer range also mean reduced charge cycles for the same distance traveled.
@8ball_998
@8ball_998 Месяц назад
@JD-yx7be The problem is cost. It's not that you can't. It's just most aren't going to pay 20k-30k to replace a battery in a vehicle that's only worth 35k. EVs are basically disposable at this point because often a battery repair/replacement costs as much or more than the book value of the car.
@JD-yx7be
@JD-yx7be Месяц назад
@@8ball_998 That is why you get a used battery from a wrecked vehicle(as long as you inspect the health). GM shares this battery platform with all their other EV vehicles and it is modular so you might not have to replace the whole thing. Longer range EVs have fewer charge cylces for the same distance traveled. That is why a lot of early 24kwh leaf batteries dies cause they only had 80 mile range when new, meaning 12.5 charges per 1000 miles vs the Silverado 2.3 charges per thousand miles traveled
@8ball_998
@8ball_998 Месяц назад
@JD-yx7be Don't get me wrong, I own a model 3. I actually like EVs because they are fun to drive. With a level 2 charger in my garage, it's a great commuter. But I bought it knowing I was rolling the dice that it could be scrap in 4 years or so if the battery craps out after a 100k. A 5 year old model 3 is not worth the 15-20k battery replacement cost. The biggest difference is cost was a 3rd of what these trucks are priced at.
@JD-yx7be
@JD-yx7be Месяц назад
@@8ball_998 you are quoting a new battery for a car that has over 100k miles that will still have worn body, interior, suspension, etc. A used healthy battery will make much more sense. I replaced the engine on my at the time 10 year old vw passat with another used engine
