Bought a pro4x in 22, 31,000miles now, been great , no issues at all, still solid, no squeaks,or rattles. Will probably get a 2025 when they come out, with same engine, don't want a turbo
Drove a 23 taco, 23 colorado and a 23 frontier all same day, back to back to back. Taco drove like shit. Slow. Terrible brake pedal feel. Sloppy on road handling. Chevy has the best brakes. Quickest/torque! Ride was solid and planted. Bold styling. Surprisingly comfy seats and driving position. Tech was top notch. Frontier rode about the same. Not as planted as chevy but still stabil. Brakes were good. Tech was bad and camera was laughably terrible-like 144p resolution. Steering was heavy but i was used to it after a test drive. Good power but the torque isnt there. Went with the chevy. Taco eliminated itself before we left the parking lot. Frontier tech and lower torque (also low stance) took it out of the race. Happy with my Colorado. My drive to work everyday and back is great.
@@jc6618 you too man. It was close between the two. Pro4x is a bad machine. If the Colorado goes down for some reason I'll switch. Pro4x needs a 2in lift tho.
Yea, that's how GM gets you it tricks you thinking it's a good vehicle from the smooth ride and nice brakes until it starts inevitably breaking down on you.
8:12 the view of the snow covered mountains beautiful. The Nissan simplicity inside with the old analog speedometer vs the Chevy digital everything is the better choice. V6 vs 4cyl makes it easier to choose the Nissan. For those who want digital everything with the eventual microchip planted in the brain get the Chevy.
Pro 4 X all day. Naturally aspirated V6, hydraulic steering, smooth as butter 9 speed transmission. No fancy gimmicks and enough tech to keep it modern. Great all round truck.
There are all sorts of TSB's on the 9 speed, most of which don't solve it's harsh shifting issues. The trans is probably the single biggest issue with these trucks.
I made this exact comparison while checking out the currently unreleased Colorado at a car show. I was 90% sure I was getting the NIssan because I didn't want a turbo 4 banger. Sitting in them side by side at the show changed my mind. The Colorado interior is MILES ahead of the Nissan. The Frontier still may be more reliable (who knows), but the interior feels 10 years old already.
@@Blue-moon12Yea, if I wanted an ancient truck I would have bought one I guess. Nissan is lagging behind because of lack of money. They tanked the Titan because they couldn't compete. Hopefully the Frontier isn't next.
I'm definitely happy with my 23 Pro4x, especially at $38k. All the new tech is cool but coming from a 2017 vehicle, even the Nissan stuff is nicer than what I had. I dream of a Tacoma, but 50k+ for a midsize truck is absurd
Im glad to see positive reviews here/online..Seems here in SW Florida Frontiers are very underrated, I came from a RAM Laramie 1500 and I'm still very happy with my new PRO4X.
If I didn't already own a 2021 Nissan Titan, I would definitely consider buying one of these Frontiers. Tried and true truck technology (engine, transmission) and I love the steering system that my Titan has on it. As for the Colorado, I do like the styling but I hate that you have to go into an infotainment system to operate the lights. More importantly, I understand that some of these new Colorado/Canyon twins are having their roofs leak/separate on owners who have simply run them through a car wash. So yeah, it would definitely be the Nissan for me.
I like the styling of the Chevy better but as the owner of a ‘22 Frontier SV like you said it will be reliable and last longer. I have had only one recall for some with a defective parking pawl. You didn’t mention the Pro4X has a locking rear diff as opposed to an automatic on the Chevy. Also I believe the headlight switch is all done thru the touch screen on the Chevy which bugs me.
Great review. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The new Frontier Pro4X was designed to be a 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor knock off and that’s why people are loving the new Frontier
Thank you for this video!! I did test drive the Frontier a couple of weeks ago. I absolutely agree the Frontier seems more rugged. Im debating between that and the Tacoma. Im so glad that im not the only one that thinks the new trucks are becoming more car like. I actually off road and I need a durable truck. You have helped make my decision more solidified about wanting the frontier, thank you!
Test drive both. Which ever one you enjoyed driving more, than get it. You’re the one driving it & paying for it. Each person will like different driving experiences.
I trust that Nissan V6 way more than the I4 turbo in the Colorado. The high output version of that I4 is the base engine in the Silverado - and it’s been nothing but trouble.
The problem with Chevy is that they are always chasing competition and pivoting. So only time will tell if they got the powertrain and transmission right. Nissan has quietly refined a tried and true set-up. I never used to look at Nissan but I'm starting to pay more attention to them.
I enjoy your segments Ben. But always wondered about something. At the beginning of every clip, why do you always leave out a word in the 1st sentence? "In today's (?blank?), I'm going to be comparing..." It's not a complaint. Just curious why never say, "In today's : clip segment video content...
Both trucks look good despite their aesthetics differences on the exterior. Both interiors are nice as well despite the Colorado being more modern. I like the Frontier’s proven power train, but 1100 lbs of payload is unacceptable for my needs of camping gear, shell, tongue weight from our small camper, passengers, dog, etc. I want about 1,500 lbs of payload. The Colorado has superior payload and better tow capacity. But, GM trucks are among the worst in terms of reliability. I am buying at the end of 2024. I will check out both along with all other mid-size trucks. If GM has addressed its reliability issues, the Colorado (Canyon) would be hard to beat in terms of capability, aesthetics, functionality, etc. But, is it reliable?
Colorado is nice had a 23, tons of tech for the price but interior is really cramped. Have a 24 sv frontier now and while tech isn't the same it's roomier and the V6 sounds and feels smoother. Mpg is tons better in my experience
It’s not the “Heavy” steering that bothers me so much as the damn turning radius. A simple u-turn ends up as a 3-point turn in the Frontier. My lease is up in 2 months, so I’m shopping, but still absolutely love my Frontier. Chevy & GMC have their work cut out for them to displace me from another Frontier.
While I drive a 22 Frontier SV 4x4, this comparison is at a Nissans dealer and I feel it’s a bit byist. I hope Colorado proves itself a good truck and fulfills the owners requirements for which they desire.
I've been torn between these two for a bit. I think Ben's comment saying if he was getting it for two years he'd go Colorado and if it was for long-term he'd go Nissan is pretty insightful. Kinda confirms my feeling that the Colorado is objectively better, but I also worry about the longevity of all of the tech. How long will Chevy support the software?
You said the horsepower is the same but car manufacturers measure peak horsepower. On a turbocharged engine the horsepower is significantly lower until the turbo kicks in then horsepower drops off again after peak boost. The turbo also increases heat and pressure in the combustion chamber. To protect the turbocharged engine and prevent knock extra fuel is sprayed in to cool the combustion chamber. The extra fuel isn't burned and is dumped into the exhaust. Since turbocharged engines use fuel as a coolant you will never get great fuel economy in a turbocharged truck. The body on mid-sized trucks are heavy and hauling or towing will make it harder to control heat in a turbocharged truck. A naturally aspirated engine doesn't have a problem with knock and has a more useful torque curve.
I cant afford a new truck every 5 years so I bought a 2024 Frontier. I don't trust turbos. My Frontier had been bullet proof so far. So solid...doesn't rattle like my under powered 3rd gen Taco did. Love that it feels like a "truck", not my wife's high tech SUV with a bed in the back. Seems like it will still be chugging along long after the turbo trucks go in for maintenance.
Naturally aspirated Frontier will last 10x longer than turbo-charged Ford Ranger or Colorado before engine failure. Also the frontier looks 10x looks nicer. Why do people think turbo is a good idea?
$46 thousand for a small truck rediculous ! They should be $35 for the higher end models. Anyone that would spend $40 thousand or more needs to be committed for pyshicatric help.
After sitting in both, the Nissan had a bit more rear legroom. At least with my seating position in the driver seat. What is comfortable for one person may not be for the next. It's close enough that it could change depending on the driver.
Is Chevy still shipping trucks with cracked blocks? First it was the V8 lifter issues and now the turbo fours are junk too. I don't trust someone who buys a Colorado because it means they're obviously too dumb to check the internet for reliability first or they're slobbering brain dead Chevy fanboys.
I got my new Pro 4x for 37K inc tax, doc fee and all that stuff, end of last year. It’s not fully loaded but has everything I need. Couldn’t be happier with it.
It's really simple. If you're broke and dont know anything about trucks, buy the Nissan. If you work hard to make good money and want a well engineered truck, buy the colorado. 🤷
Good comment about the "heavy steering"! Those who complain have obviously never driven an older vehicle without power steering! Bunch of snowflakes indeed!!
Let's be honest... The nissan is a decent truck for the money... but the gm twins are on a completely different level that nissan, I don't think, nissan has the capability to produce on that level anymore.
Better build quality huh? Ever heard of the GM jiggle or the chevy shake? People buy what they want. Where i am a WT colorado was all in 12,000 more than the frontier. Sure im driving a "nissan" but its a simple comfortable vehicle that does everything i need it to (i drive my vehicles hard) and all the money saved?... well lets just say no one looks down on my nissan when im towing my snowmobile or fishing boat :)
@WheresTheSauce agreed..but c'mon... It's still a nissan frontier. Reliable? The old ones for sure, but ever since the Renault buy out ever nissan I run across has electrical issues and the interior still feels like.its stuck in 05. All I know is any new nissan except for the frontier(haven't seen any yet In my bay) has build quality issues from being a nearly bankrupt company.
@@T.I.R24 i dont understand what point youre trying to make? That youve never seen a frontier? That youre either a mechanic or an oil change pit guy LMAO (i doubt both) or nissan is allegedly going bankrupt? (Like gm NEVER did) My guy you sound like you watch too much scotty kilmer haha
Easily the Chevy Colorado is way better in many ways over that Datsun ( Nissan) pickup…I would be embarrassed to drive that overpriced out dated Nissan
I also have a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax and our family also has 2023 PRO4X. The Nissan is a great vehicle, not sure why you’re crapping on it, the PRO4X has Dana 44 rear axles, a fully boxed frame, and a Spicer transfer case, the baby Chevy can’t claim to have any of those things.
Just bought a Nissan Pro 4X today. I saw so many comments on YT saying how nice it is to drive and I'll admit I was shocked how nice this truck is. Tons of tech (in my model at least) but also simple to use. First Nissan truck since my old 94 Hardbody. Glad to be back. Do yourself a favor and just test drive one. I think you'll be surprised. Thanks for the all the videos that I watched on your channel Ben.
The frontier has just enough tech to make us a good truck for the next 10yrs. The frontier looks wayyy better and will be more reliable. Overall I think the frontier is now the best midsize truck to buy overall.
But will the tech allow it to run for 10 years? Just got one myself. After joint the groups the tech seems to be the only thing causing these trucks problems.
@@ML_1515 transmission recall, transfer case work (would get stuck in 4 high), ABS system decides to flash every light possible(still have this issue now and then randomly), BCM took a crap (no start, had to tow it to the dealer) and now the drivers door handle does not work from the outside. Don’t see myself keeping this truck much longer. Disappointed with my experience so far, first new vehicle I’ve ever bought for myself.
I got frontier pro 4x fully loaded, leather heated front seat, heated steering wheel, heated side view mirror, sunroof, fender sound system 10 speakers with subwoofer, navigation, 360 camera i know it has bad resolution but it's ok, and its V6 3.8 which is better than 2.7 turbo 🤣 what's point having 2.7 turbo if it give you same mileage as v6 3.8, i don't get it. 😛
Pulling a trailer over mountain roads, the 3.8 V6 will be screaming at 3,500 to 4,500 RPM, while the 2.7 liter 4 banger will be loafing along at 2,200 RPM not breaking a sweat. Low RPM torque and power is the reason for getting a turbo.
Thank you so much for doing this, these are the models I am trying to decide on. You give a lot of very good information, a very high quality review. Liked and Subscribed!
The frontier has been really rugged and reliable. I do kind hope they swap the suspension out for a more dampening off road suspension. But that's just me.
Heard they started delivering, but still "SALE HOLD"?? GO FIGURE--- REALLY GETTING RELUCTANT TO BUY ONE.... AND THE RANGERS ARE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND ALSO.. 1 RAPTOR CAME TO MY DEALER--- AND GONE .. i'm not into rock crawling, but i do the beach( we can drive the beach here)
