@@justinmccabe19 crying about the newest top trim trucks price is just so fucking old. Like get some more money. Or buy another truck lmao is something wrong with your xlt ?
No factory winch, IFS with open diff, and the weight of a diesel up front? No, it's not a direct competitor for the PW. A better comparison is against the Tremor. These are trucks for people who want to tow first and off road second. The PW is the opposite, for people who want a softer more flexy truck and don't care about HD level tow ratings. (2021 PW 75A owner)
don't matter how you slice it, truck looks great! I'm sure I will find some around the local Starbucks cause lets face it most people wont spend $100k for an actual dirt runner ... still one sick double latte getter lol ... Ty for sharing, neat review
Aev knocked it out of the park with this from a design standpoint but the fact its not a solid axle in the front puts it behind the power wagon, rebel and the tremor strictly off road. Having owned a power wagon and now an ISF tundra- my isf can only dream of doing what my power wagon could :( Thanks for the great vid truck king!
It's "ifs" and ifs is better offroad and on than solid axles. Technology has moved on, and the solid front axel is a dinosaur. Look at every form of offroad racing...ifs dominates.
Solid axles still rule the roost when it comes to gnarly trails and rock crawling. IFS works for most folks I’m sure, but it really fails big time when the going gets tough.
@@phild9813 this. They are both awesome! But anyone who thinks IFS can hold a candle to a solid axle when it comes to hard technical obstacles is kidding themselves.
Love it should have a limited slip front differential or torsen differential as Ford Would say, I've driven new Chevy HD 4 by 4 with the locker and back and the front does pull😅😅 on both Wheels on flat ground, power wagon strictly for off road not towing,me I'd buy 3500 hd ltz 4 bye depending on money I'm not sure if I get gas or diesel
Power Wagon killer? No. But probably a better all around truck just due to payload and towing. Depends on what you really want to do. This is also better compared to the new Ram HD Rebel which you may already say since I’m commenting while watching lol.
PW will kill itself. Not much of a market for extreme offroading HD trucks. An HD truck that can't do HD work, and even with front lockers, the size limits it from true off-roading.
I’ve been researching this specific truck for Chevy and gmc for a while. Keep in mind I’m a Chevy guy and currently own a Silverado. The gmc has more in their version than the Chevy. I’m heavily leaning towards gmc for that reason
True offroad, just get a colorado. Love this truck! Already put 1,500 miles on mines. Lots of people asking questions about it and wondering if I modified it. Told them it's straight from the factory like this. Tbh, even if you dont do alot of offroading, the shocks helps soften all the bumps. Ive test drove all the trims, LT, LTZ, HC, lariat F250, xlt f350, and this ZR2 HD is the most comfortable going over rough roads. If you dont need a 1ton, you should consider this. Makes daily driving so much better on paved roads.
Did you buy the zr2 or bison? I’ve been leaning towards buying just the zr2 since they announced the truck. Since I will be using it for towing a lot but also want something I can use for fun on the weekends. What are your thoughts overall so far?
@@christianortiz6956 i got the zr2.. the bison you will lose about 300lbs of payload. 2600lbs vs 2900-3000, i already towed my 6000lb 23ft boat and 8000lb trailer across a few states and back. Not sure what you mean by "fun" on the weekends but what these guys are doing is probably about what you can do with the truck. It does rides nicer than tthe regular 2500hd because of the multimatic.dampers. i havent done any serious off roading but I live out in the countryside and go through alot of gravel and dirt roads on a regular basis. I traded my 1/2 ton Tremor for this. So far I am loving it, other than the increase in fuel cost!
@@fongvang935 sweet I have zr2 Colorado that I’ve used for off roading and some other things so I plan on using this truck for similar stuff. I plan on towing a boat and a trailer that’s about the same weight as yours. Thanks for the info. Only problem I’m running into is finding one of these trucks in my area all the ones I can seem to find are 2,000 miles away. But it looks like it might be worth the drive.
@christianortiz6956 dang, do you live in hawaii?? Well, if you want one, you gotta do what you gotta do. Have you owned a 3/4 ton before? With the UAW strike, who knows when that is going to get resolved, and whatever is built or incoming is probably what is available for now. There were about 12 or so in my area, Minnesota. The first six I found sold on the first day I got there. I was lucky to get mine because the guy who had made a deposit on it, his loan couldn't get approved, so they made it available to me. I think it's worth it, pricey, but the 3500 ltz i test drove cost the same.
I live in California in the northern part. It’s a lot of farm land out here not to many big dealerships around me. I have never owned a 3/4 ton or diesel so this is all new to me. But I’m trying to be as well prepared as possible just asking a lot of people questions watching a lot of videos. I’ve looked into 3500s but my dump trailer is rated for 14,000 so I don’t think I will ever pull anything heavier and if I do it will be on rare occasions so a 3500 to me is overkill. I’ve seen some zr2 2500 close to me but they sell faster than I can call. All the big dealers are far that have multiple
Show it parallel parking, going grocery shopping, picking up food at a drive-thru, changing a tire etc. ie. doing things a regular person does during the week. The nearest desert is Death Valley thousands of miles away.
I prefer a solid truck to tow my fifth wheel, so this truck is a No for me. By the way, you asked what my fifth wheel is. It is a 2021 Forrest River Impression 35 ft model 280RL. We like it so far!
Another great review real world I rather watch your reviews than some other channels as you guys point out negatives about the vehicle even though your at the Manufactures event 👍
Love to join the debate but I take comfort in the fact that i am satisfied to keep my 2005 dodge 2500 CTD until I croak. Not paying more than 100k for a truck unless it wipes for me.
My dealer denies warranty if you leave a red light somewhat spirited. Hope warranty actually understands someone will actually take this after a downed elk somewhere and expect full dealer backing if say a shock blows out .
What limits the payload? I realize weight… but why? Is it breaking distance? Is it a market reduction in stability? I ask this because I’ve grown up Farming and Ranching…. We never even try to calculate loads, we just load up and we definitely overload our trucks often daily!
You’re talking about the Ram PW? It’s a specialized vehicle for off-roading and therefore payload is limited by the suspension as you need softer and lighter suspension for off-roading. As for this 2500 ZR2 Bison, it’s all the armor that add a few hundred pounds to the vehicle and therefore lower the payload. The diesel engine also weighs quite a bit vs gas engine. And yes, payload is the maximum weight you can safely carry. Farm land and stuff maybe no big deal but if you overload a truck driving 70+ mph or something, you’re in for a lot of troubles.
Awesome work GM!!! Finally, Power Wagon have a real competition but I think ZR2 steps it up many notches with proper real bumpers and skids. Great 👍 Diesel and gasoline engines. You guys nailed it with this offering.
I haven't gone for a test drive yet, but my biggest question after watching all these videos of the ZR2 Bison and AT4X AEV from GMC...... it is comfortable to sit in? Is the centre console the perfect height to rest your arm? Is the drivers door arm rest or window ledge a comfortable height to rest your arm while driving.
I am looking for expert opinions and you guys have been consistently providing the best information I can find on youtube. Here is my background. I work in several emergency departments in Wyoming and Nebraska. I travel a lot. No problem in the summer. Weather; however, frequently impacts spring, fall and, of course, winter travel. There are times that I am driving for hundreds of miles in blizzard conditions on closed roads (Don't worry. I'm not breaking the law. I have emergency travel authorization). The biggest impacts to my travel are icy roads and deep snow drifts. I am often in life threatening travel conditions and frequently performing roadside rescue for stuck vehicles. What do you recommend for the best truck to tackle these conditions? I am leaning towards the 2500 ZR2 but I would like to hear what the experts have to say. Please guide me with your experience and wisdom. Thank you so much! I love your videos!
I'm not sure how it out does the Power Wagon. Maybe in towing and payload, but definitely not off-road. No front locker, no discount sway bar, no solid front axel, no winch, and no artilink suspension. I don't know how they would even dare compare this to a power wagon's off road capability.
If the Power Wagon would fit in our garage I would have already owned one. But because of limited front and rear space I purchased a New Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. I can still go off roading, come back home. wash it and back it in my garage!! LOL Yanni
Then I would probably go Ford Tremor Powerstroke... I still have friends that are having issues with their newer Chevys (particulary their transmission)@@fongvang935
Not as exciting as Colorado or even Silverado ZR2. This seems it would be too big for most trails, at least in the Midwest. No front locker is disappointing as well. I would much prefer a midsize for off-road.
With an independent front suspension it comes nowhere near a power wagon off road. Off road HD GM's are known for broken half shafts and drag links. No locker up front no sway bar disconnect.
2500s arent off road vehicles so agreed with another that it will be for hunting, overland, farmers and just guys that would already put a bigger tire on their 2500.....Chevy nailed it with this...priced well in the market ad gas version is 72k...an LTZ loaded is around same but this comes standard with features... Bison pkg I would pass on....bumpers and seat stitching for 9k isnt a good value imo trucks are expensive and will only get more expensive as time passes.....complain all you want but these trucks arent made for evey tax bracket....plenty of WT and lower trims available for that demographic
Power Wagon = Jeep articulation but about as useful as a 1500 in terms of payload and towing. A Power Wagon has all of about 1600lbs payload. 1/2 tons have a higher rating than that. ZR2 has less Jeep level of articulation but way more HD truck capable. Payloads are only slightly less than a non ZR2 HD, you can still order plow prep and 5th wheel prep, and you can get both gas and diesel engines. Same can be said for the Ford Super Duty Tremor (but you can't get plow prep on those), an off road capable and HD rated truck. GM is planning a Trail Boss HD so there should be a more affordable off road ready HD on the way, and I'm sure the DSSVs will probably be able to be installed on that truck.
No, it’s not a Power Wagon killer, not even close. As matter of fact, the 2023 Ram Rebel HD with the 6.4 Hemi has almost identical payload and towing numbers and will be significantly less expensive, and will easily out preform this truck off-road. This truck falls short in just about every category.
I found out by youtube comments on another video the 6.2 engines come with a muffler that sounds good. Nowhere do they explain that on the website. So that's why when you choose another muffler it tries to make you get a 5.3L with them.
Hard to say it's more luxurious. Ive sat in both and the only difference i noticed is how the dash is designed and the color scheme is different,. gmc also commands a $10,000 usd premium. 10yrs ago GM made alot of features exclusive to GMC models, but nowadays the Chevy variants can get about 90% of all the options. A few years back, you couldn't get a silverado with the 6.2 v8 and only on the sierra, but now they opened it up, even down to the multiflex tailgate being available on chevy trucks. Hard to justify the sierra price premium, unless you dig the front end look.
i dont understand why nearly every truck is supposedly meant to go off road. how many people need a truck that goes off road/ hardly anyone goes off road. would like a small truck with long bed. do not need 4x4 or a hood thats 5 ft high
Must be a city slicker. Not everyone who works stays on the paved roads. Even at construction sites, it can get pretty muddy. Believe it or not, there are still people who live out in the countryside hauling hay, livestocks, and lumbers and deal with rough road conditions and still need an HD truck...
I had to pull my Rv off the road onto a muddy soft shoulder. Had to pull it back onto the road, too. What does it hurt to prepare for contingencies? 4wd at the very least is the very least I will own.
i said why does nearly every truck need to be a 4x4 with off road package. i didnt say they were not necessary or not widely used. most people who drive them do not work off road or go off road. thats a common thing to see people building trucks to do nothing with. im saying let some trucks be a basic truck and small. if you want big and 4x4 thats great, go ahead, no one is stopping you@@fongvang935
People need to collectively stop buying any new vehicles as long as possible. Force the automakers to come down on these absolutely absurd prices for what is essentially a throw away vehicle
this is all hog wash load all 3 up with a cord of wood and drive them out of a moderate off road trail. I can tell you who would win that because it has a stiffer suspension to handle a heavy load
Useless money wasted why would u take a heavy big wide truck on excessive off road trail makes no sense and this vehicle is just for that know nothing about actual off roading and just want to say I have bad ass truck!!
with the thousands of dollars these guys make off of youtube every month, the least the can do is upgrade to 4k, i mean 8k will be the standard soon. Get with the times.
Wow. You're doing so good in life that the one thing you can bitch about is 1080 vs 4k. You might want to think about your life and how you present yourself buddy.
It's still a hideous looking Chevy. Them 6.6 engines burn a lot of oil. Gonna burn about 3qrts every 5k miles brand new right off the lot. Chevy is made for the pavement and looking pretty. The Colorado sucks off road also. Buddy of mine has a Colorado ZR2 and had to have it towed back home. Leave the off roading, Towing, and work to Ford and Ram.
Yes some early build 6.6 gas engines used oil but the reality is the majority of 6.6 gas engines do not have oil consumption issues. If Ford and Ram didn't have their own list of issues you could throw shade. Just because your buddy had a problem does not change the fact that the Colorado ZR2 is an awesome off-road truck.
I have 10 fleet Silverados with the 6.6 and have had no issues with oil but i guess you know all. The Colorado is a great off roader but i guess you know all.... is your name Al?? Mr. Know it al🤔🤡
I think the most common usage case for a truck like this would be farming/ranching/hunting. When you need a truck that can tow a good sized trailer, but also get around crummy mountain roads.
Yeah ive been out elk hunting in colorado and ive seen some crazy people with 1ton trucks and their fifth wheel campers just going down the mud and snow.
No front limited slip, no front solid axle, no front winch, weak tie rods/cv axle, seats are not comfortable, can't get it in the 3500. Ford has more towing capability. 2024 Ford F350 Tremor 6.7 high output is best off road truck in the segment imo
So only just additional $9000 for steel bumpers and few extra skid plates!🙄. I would much rather just take the standard ZR2 then the Bison version and safe myself those $9000.
Yes pretty much, plus aev wheels and some extra stickers. Adding those with after market parts could put u down $7000-9000 also, so if you want the aev look, it's not too bad. And you get factory warranty with it.
Just curious, where did the Z'edR2 come from? It's just a Z. lol not big deal but wondering how Canadians come up with that extra. HA Love the work you guys do!
It is a hold over from Britain. That’s just how we pronounce ‘zed’. Both pronunciations work of course. That pronunciation is important to us because it is a was to tell you we are Canadian without telling you.
Being a diesel powered motor. It will be popular in countries like Australia, cuz they love diesel 4wd more than anything. There are some petrol powered Nissan 4wd, but not as popular and reliable as diesel.
If they would have made that front bumper winch capable and added a front locker. This would have been my next truck. I will stick with my Tremor. Still the best truck for towing and off road capability.
My 6.6 doesn't burn oil at all ... i have 10 fleet 1500 Silverados and none of them burn oil. My sons zr2 has no problems with his shocks and he beats the hell out of it.
Everyone makes a big deal about 35” tires. Tires sizes can definitely be a little confusing, but the bottom line is that a 35” tire is somewhere between 3/4 of an inch to 1 inch larger in diameter than a 33”, and they are significantly heavier. If the truck comes from the factory equipped with 35’s, great. But if it comes equipped with 33’s, changing to 35’ doesn’t make much difference when off-roading, but it makes a big difference in performance, mostly negative.
