For some time now Honda has been moving the Civic away from its humble roots, and by now the cars in that platform (Civic, the new HRV) are getting conceived as aimed at a slight step-up in category above "device to move you from point A to Point B". Notice how with the dropping in the North America market of the Fit and the old HRV, Honda have admitted that selling an "econobox" is not worth it for them here.
@Broccoli_Highkicks
@Broccoli_Highkicks 9 месяцев назад
In Europe, the Civic has basically replaced the Accord, which is no longer on sale. And I suppose the Jazz (Fit in America) is the new Civic. Of course, the trend here is very much towards SUVs and crossovers. HR-V, CR-V, ZR-V, and the all-electric E:NY1 are all in that wheelhouse. Blegh.

We have two 2020 Civics. Both have had flawless drivetrain performances for 60k miles each. As we approach 2024-25 we have looked a the: 1. Toyota Prius AWD. 2. Toyota Corolla Hybrid AWD 3. Honda HR-V Hatchback AWD But what I'm REALLY hoping for is the is the Corolla Hatchback HYBRID AWD. If they come out with that option, that is the most practical and aesthetically acceptable option for us. The pricey Prius is hard to swallow to swallow. While the Corolla sedan, being affordable, is aesthetically a desert with its mundane curbside appeal. However, the Corolla Hatch is quite attractive. The HR-V Hybrid is eminently practical, but a test drive is mandatory because of previous "sleepy" performance. As for the new Civic, we all totally dislike this Gen 11 Civic design and reject it out of hand. So, we wait for prices to return to normalcy and new possibilities on the horizon. In this matter, patience and discipline are usually my best guides.

Agreed, I had a 2004 civic hybrid with 196k, miles on it, 38 mpg, batteries died at 90k, were replaced by Honda under the 100k warranty. At 196k the transmission was about to go out, and needed a new commuter car. I was waiting for a Corolla hatchback AWD. No hybrid, cause batteries will fail before the engine. The engine on my 2004 Honda hybrid could still go another 100k, but the batteries will fail again before that. I thought Toyota would give us the corolla AWD hatchback this year, but no. I bought a 2024 Honda civic sport hatchback a week ago, and very happy with the car so far. With 500 miles on it, i'm averaging 33 MPG. One thing people don't talk about with hybrids is their longevity. As an owner of a 19 year old civic hybrid , batteries fail, just like they do on your smart phone, laptop etc. Keep that in mind on your next car purchase. Hybrids are great for gas mileage , but don't last as long as naturally asperated engine cars.

While one might view this as subjective, most reviews I have read or seen disagree with your comment that the Civic is quieter than the Corolla. Trick question, it’s the Mazda 3 2.5t AWD Hatch. But in all seriousness the Civic is a very close second, the only reasons I think it looses out on #1 is the lack of AWD and the CVT tranny. The only way I’d consider the Corolla is in the GR configuration because otherwise it feels anemic even though it’s tiny and weighs nothing. None the less you can’t really go “wrong” with any of them. Japanese designed cars, made in Japan, with Japanese parts are always superior… but now that I think of it aren’t Civics not made in Japan anymore? Maybe this is a two horse race between Toyota and Mazda after all…

I’ve had both but it’s sort of funny that the opinion is out there that non-aspirated engines DON’T have carbon buildup and fuel injection problems. Since I first started buying cars in 1994 they have ALL had carbon build-up and fuel injection problems once you get over 100K… it wasn’t until 2020 that I had a Turbo but all my NON-Turbo . NON-Aspirated (Compressed Air) engines had this problem. So I’m just here to say that there is not much difference… Non-Turbos could last longer yes but if you go for the 2.0L instead of the 1.6T you WILL NEED Fuel-Injection Service and there will be some Maintenance problems you just can’t avoid. I get that Turbo may have more maintenance issues, especially if you use only 87 octane gas with very little detergents to clean the carbon off of the valves over time. But lets be honest here… I have about 80K on my 2020 CR-V and it has had absolutely no maintenance due to the engine once it gets to 120K that might change but I also expect it because my previous vehicles did have this problem (although not Honda). Actually come to think of it I already had starting problems due to Fuel Injection prior to 80K with Plymouth Chrysler vehicles. But that was late 90’s and fuel injection was still fairly new (yes Port Injection… all my vehicles with Port Injection were a problem, all my vehicles with Direct Injection have never had an issue). Sorry for the rant but… don’t get too hung up on Port vs Direct or Dual or Non-Aspirated vs Turbo-charged. Oh yeah and if you do buy a Turbo… it warms up so fast in the Winter, if you live in a cold climate, it’s pretty awesome.

Civic has always been a great car but insurance is so expensive. It's cheaper to get an accord over the long run because of insurance. In the 00's when I was ready to buy one, the accord, RSX, Celica, Corolla, Camry, and IS300 were cheaper to own over 7 years because of the crazy high insurance. Everything from Fast&Furious movies, theft, and even "thinner sheet metal" were given as reasons.

Every car looks and runs great when new. But which car will remain the same as time passes by? Maybe it's those few thousand extra kms you can squeeze out of the brake pads. Maybe the calipers won't stick. Maybe it's those few extra MPGs of fuel economy that you can consistently get. Maybe it's having to replace shocks and struts less often. Maybe the alignment will remain the same for longer. Maybe it's the smooth ride over bumps. My vote goes to the Corolla.

The Corolla is significantly smaller than the civic. I have both and I can tell you the civic has way more room…we have the LE corolla and the sport civic…I’d take the civic all day long over the corolla. But like he said in the video. Corolla is cheaper… and it’s not a bad car at all. Just like the civic better

Greetings to you from Germany, I have been following you since today. I would have a question regarding Mazda 6 newer models from 2017 onwards.....what are they like. Are diesels good now 2.0 D or petrol 2.0 and ??? I've been for a long time drove a Mazda 626 gasoline 2.0 and...it was a great car, never had any problems, I drove the car for 11 years and sold it with 300,000 kilometers. Thank you in advance for your reply.

Corolla hybrid is a 1.8L gas engine? Isn't it? Plus you add the electric motor torque to the engine torque and it tells a different story. The Toyota is also it's Legendary E-CVT whereas the Honda is known for the CVT going before the engine. The 2.0L toyota power slots in between the honda base engine and the performance engine 158-169-180. I wouldn't buy a used turbo model as powerful small turbo engines just don't have the longevity.

Honda reliability and Toyota reliability are not the same. In just reliability alone, Honda dependability is good, but Toyota is legendary for it. All the passenger space in the world doesn’t mean anything if one is more likely to leave you waiting for a tow on the side of the road than the other. That’s what instantly ends the debate. (Hondas are great and I’m splitting hairs, but if we’re going to compare them, then splits hairs we must) and Honestly, this shouldn’t even be between these two, it should be between the Corolla and the Mazda 3. Also an amazingly reliable, high quality car in this segment.

Great video Shari, you are very very accurate in this video. Thank you 🙏. Without any hesitation, I would pick the Toyota Corolla. The Hatchback Corolla also Made in Japan. Hondas are pure junk nowadays. I am speaking of authority of someone who owned Hondas for 3 decades and unfortunately Honda became a horrible auto manufacturer especially in the last 10 years. The best Hondas are from late 80s to late 90s. I am now a Toyota and Mazda fanboy. Super reliable and many models from Toyota and Mazda are still Made in Japan.

Both Honda and Toyota are very reliable. I think that Honda made a mistake with the new engine design. The 1.5 turbo initially had oil dilution issues, but it has been resolved, and newer models don't suffer from this problem anymore. I believe that the naturally aspirated 2 liter with both port and direct injection is the most reliable design. That being said, I still prefer the Honda Civic. It feels like a step above the Toyota in quality. The interior is gorgeous and very spacious. the exterior looks beautiful.
@carhelpcorner
@carhelpcorner Год назад
Did you have major problems with the Honda's you owned?
@Thankyou_3
@Thankyou_3 Год назад
@@carhelpcorner Yes, the 2002 Honda Accord had very expensive replacement of subframe. Ball joints, stabilizer links, shocks, exhaust, starter, alternator….all this replaced average kilometres, I dump it before the transmission gave up as it started to give issues. Acura EL 2004, dumped this car after only 3.5 years when it started having electrical issues, dealer confirmed Honda used low quality wiring. The interior started to fall apart on the door panels as the glue started giving up. Warranty didn’t cover it as it was over 3 years old. 2010 and 2013 Honda Accord, both had issues related poor suspensions and the 2010 cylinder #1 blew up so decided to sell the 2013 as well as I knew Hondas 2.4 litre were oil burners. Both brake rear callipers seized because the hand brake components were so poor quality. These model years felt apart quickly. I had owned Honda Accord 1989, 1991 and 1993….absolutely bulletproof cars. I kept these model years for many years and 1993 model kept it for 20 years with original starter, alternator and brake callipers. Original engine and transmission on these year models. Solid solid Hondas…

I would chose a mazda 2.5l non turbo with a 6sp non cvt transmission. Mazda is now majority owned by toyota, and are made in toyota plants. A mazda has better refinement and quantity , reliability than a toyota olla, and mazda is more like a mid level lexus than a cheapy quality toyota.

The Civic is eliminated from consideration by having only GDI. The Corolla has dual injection, both GDI, for power and emissions, and port, to keep the valves and intake ports from clogging up like every GDI engine made will. And while both cars are plagued with CVT transmissions, the Corolla as an actual 1st gear for launches. Saving the fragile belt from the worst of the wear normally experienced by these awful and hideously expensive to repair transmissions. Corolla for the win!

My 2018 F150 also has dual port and direct injection. I borescoped my 2017 Honda GDI at 20,000 miles, and was so horrified how carboned up the intakes were I sold the car! The dealer said I needed to clean them every 10,000 miles. 20k is far too long between cleanings. I borescoped my dual injection F150 at 70,000 miles, and it wasn’t perfect either. It had a tiny bit of accumulation. Maybe 20% of what the Honda had at 20k. So the dual injection does help a lot. But still isn’t as good as old fashioned port injection alone.
