If someone tries hard, maybe they will still be able to buy the 2022 FJ Cruiser Final Edition. I am a happy owner of one. When I saw the first photos of the new Landcruiser two months after buying the FJ, I was concerned whether I was in too much of a hurry. But after your video in which you very nicely discussed all the pros and cons of both models, I am happy with my choice. I replaced the bad bulbs in the FJ with LED ones and it's quite good now. The main reason I chose FJ was its simplicity and legendary failure-free operation. I wish all owners of new LandCruisers that they will be as trouble-free as the FJ. But looking at the direction in which today's automotive industry is heading, I have great concerns about this and I chose older designs, perhaps more fuel-consuming, but giving me a greater likelihood that I will not be a regular visitor to repair shops.

@oliver5403

I think the FJ is better for offroading. Because it is so cheap I don't mind breaking something. And they are fairly easy to work on. Buying a new LandCruiser and then modding it to take it off road seems like a way too expensive fix. I do like how analog the FJ is even changing 2H, 4H, and 4L is a breeze. Unlike these newer Toyotas which are only a button but they seem finicky. But for me the FJ is a third car. If I was only going to have one the LandCruiser probably drives better so I would probably pick it.
@gordonkytam
@gordonkytam 8 месяцев назад
Congrats Hayden! To me, the criteria of a great 4x4 is mods availability and mechanical reliability. Besides the extra space and an arguable engine "upgrade", almost all "advanced technology/features" are available to the FJs after mods. Although I believe many mods are also coming for the 2024 LC, there are many reasons why the 2024 LC's reliability is questionable. FJ is a clear winner here and Yes I am biased as a proud FJ owner. P.S.: Forgot to add that precise and linear control is needed in rock crawling. That hybrid set up will surely mess up the mechanical feedback and "connection" with the driver.

Ditto. I’ve done quite a bit of modding my ‘07 FJ and regularly go beat it up in the California mountains and deserts and, with the exception of breaking IFS axels, this thing is rock solid. The utilitarian design (and age) lets me beat it up without stressing over the paint job or denting it. It smells like an old car, but at 200k miles, she has quite a bit of life left in her. It’s hard to picture the new LC fully modded, but I’m sure it will be nice, but I would still stress over getting Desert Pin-striping or mud on the interior. And time will tell if it’s built as solid as the legendary FJ.

I’ll take Land Cruiser reliability & better offroad features all for half the price, any day of the week. Love the look of the new Land Cruiser, but people can pry my FJ keys from my cold dead hands, haha. Definitely keeping the FJ forever, it’s my rig and always will be ;)

I'm an original owner of a 2008 FJ which is still my daily driver after 240k miles. It was my first new car in my 20s. I've been looking around for my next car seriously for 5+ years because I know I can't keep driving long 5+ hour trips forever without issue. I almost got a bronco but I've decided I'll wait and get a land cruiser in 2 years when all the kinks have been worked out. I remembering the various recalls the FJ had as a early model owner. I'll never sell my FJ though. To many memories and I plan on just driving it around town to keep the miles off my new ride. Never thought I would still be driving it though.

Good comparison! I had my first 2007 FJ cruiser in 2006 (stolen in 2009) and had a 2009 until 2019. Sold it because it was starting to be high mileage and was quite hard on gas. I loved my FJs however and both saw a lot of highway, and offroad time! Great comfortable vehicle that even stock was keeping up with modified jeeps offroad! I since drive a RDX which i really like and uses quite a bit less gas, but although it is a great driver, limited towing capacity and very good in snow, it has no offroad capacity. I just put a deposit to be on a waiting list for the new landcruiser; Good towing capacity, good looks, good power and fuel economy should be better with the hybrid….

Thanks for that info Hayden. More BS from Toyota using a prehistoric Nickle Metal Hydride Battery in the new Cruiser! Haven't they ever heard of Lithium batteries? Or is that because they catch on fire perhaps? I'm seeing the hybrids as a bit of a con job...2 operating systems means more complex, more expensive maintenance systems... to make some people feel good. How much are the savings by including electric to the turbo 4 ?

At 1:34 it is evident there is no room in the engine bay for anything additional. Like what? Secondary battery, relocate washer, compressor, additional fuse panel/box, upgraded air box w/ or w/out snorkel, etc. This whole engine bay looks like a nightmare to work on if it needed it. I own a 07 FJ Cruiser with over 190K miles, Love the Iconic retro look and unique design, Yes the LC is a complete redesign and new style beauty but here is the stuff I dont like about LC, exterior specially the back looks more like a Jeep Cherokee, and dont like the spare tire under the body, dont like the E brake electronic system (feels like I am driving a BMW X3 or a Hyundai) I have used the hand brake many times during off roading and no idea why during off roading a true SUV needs a Turbo charged engine when straight or V6 can handle the torque, isn't the turbo kicks after 2500 RPM or am I missing something? Isn't supercharged better option than the Turbo? Also why 4 CYL Turbo Hybrid?! Ummmm... look like a prius.Well LC is def roomier specially the back seats and is user friendly. I have update this beast and love it very much, anytime anywhere I go people stare on my FJC and asking if its for sale. Overall I like the LC and am very happy finally Toyota came up with something new to compare with new Defender and Jeep. At the end I will stick with my FJ since it has much less electronics. I have a deposit down on a new Landcruiser, but the ground clearance and approach and departure angles have me scratching my head a bit. I will always have an FJ in the garage even if I do get a new Landcruiser. It's going to take the aftermarket parts manufacturers a few years to get going on the Landcruiser and it's also going to take Toyota a few years to get the bugs worked out. We'll have to wait and see what kind of prices the new Landcruisers actually sell for. It's good to have options.

Sources I've seen for here in the US say 2.4L, but in other countries there will also be a 2.8L turbo-diesel four-cylinder

They have been selling 4runner in US for 15 years and it was selling well. After 5 years all tooling and R&D on a vehicle is paid off. Rest is just pure profit for Toyota. Its lucrative to be slow
