I love DDM but I think remarks like this in his videos make him sound like the wealthy guy he has become (which I am happy for him about). "Drives reasonably well" and "looks the substantially the same as 15 years ago" and "lost the nice V8 sound for V6 rasp" and "now this one stickers for $230k" is all just so silly. How many peole will buy this thing for Porsche GT3 money when Crossovers and SUV's rule the sales charts?? As DDM likes to point out, it's not the purchase price you need to worry about. It's the depreciation rate! And this one is gonna have a steep one.
I'll have to be financially stable in every sense before purchasing my first luxury car. The best thing to do with your money is to invest rightly because money left saving will end up with no returns.
The best advice that i learned from Manny Koshbin is don't buy a Super or Hyper car until you have 10 times the price of it in your Bank account, when you purchase a Super car you add a car to your garage but u add also maintenance and unexpected damages that can happen in future
I understand Manny advice but that's overkill. If most people did that - they would never own one. The 10-15% rule is enough - especially if you make even more with multiple streams of income. My investment properties pay for my exotics cars. It's many different things you can do to afford easily and responsibly. You don't need a million cash to afford a cheap 100k car, My first exotic was 100k put down 20k- financed 80k. Then traded up to more expensive cars. Now I have an Aventador, so it's not hard at all, Especially if you are making 20-25k plus a month with little to no debt with multiple streams and assets that produce income.
If you got 10x the price sitting in your bank account... you already making bad financial decision. You need to get a financial planner to aid diversify your portfolio to commodities index funds, digital assets etc, to provide illumination and guidance in the financial markets.
No doubt being financially free and not having to worry much about inflation, health care and other expenses especially after retirement cannot be overemphasized, making smart plans and setting up diversified investment portfolios is quite essential.
I think Doug unfairly judged the design of the car. The GT is beautiful and this is a perfect evolution with a modern design. G Wags, Jeeps, and even 911s all have looked the same since 2007, but the new bodies all look good.
Very true it really is a beautiful car, especially the Folgore convertible. Peasants make up the majority always remember that a Maserati isn't for peasants peasants will never understand the beauty of a Maserati.
@@orang7789 Foolish comment "something much better" such as?? I don't think so give an example in my opinion there's not one car that is as beautiful or as exclusive in the segment "Depreciation is insane"? it's a brand-new model what you are doing is making an old cliché statement based on older generation models, not on facts based on the latest models which have yet to be proven.
I love how even as we've entered the digital age where screens are everywhere and offer infinite possibilities, Italian car designers still feel the need to make the controls horribly cramped and unintuitive. Bravissimo!
The pricing of this car really bothers me. Because if you pay an extra 20k, you can literally buy the MC20 supercar instead. Which also leaves the MC20 in an odd spot as well. But who I am to complain when I'll never be to afford these machines.
Right...the original had the looks and sound to arouse women (scientifically proven) now this is just the Chinese knockoff GTA version of a Ferrari 612
Maserati doing in their design department what Porsche literally has done for 30 years with their 911. The new one, looks like the old one, and everyone LOVES it. Way to go Maserati - Stick with what works!
@@jamescarter8311 True, but thats beside the point. My point here is that automakers in many cases are better off with a gently upgraded design than a complete RE-design when they have made a beautiful car-model. Porsche is mastering this particularly well, while you have other manufactures, like BMW who every now and again throws a total spasm in their design department, destroying an icon (at least until they get back on track a decade later, which they usually do...) I think its interesting what Maserati is doing here and I respect it, because its hard to argue that this is a fine looking automobile, right?
@@1bluensx Maserati isn't known for holding their value and I would never buy one new (or any car new for that matter) They just lose too much just leaving the dealership. But the design is great and I respect Maserati for reusing it and I wish more automakers would do the same when they have created something that really works. This car is beautiful, there is no two ways about that. But it is going to lose a ton of value, thats for sure too.
New porsche looks like the old porsche and no one complains. The Gran Turismo deserves to be the Italian 911. It's beautiful, I hope they never get rid of this shape.
I was thinking the same thing. Doug never blasts the 911 for essentially looking the same since it's inception. This is the same thing - an evolution of a timeless design.
tldr/ those two things are not the same. the 911 first came out 60 years ago. it has heritage, it has a rich history. the reason it gets away with remaining unchanged (which tbh, i dont really believe it is. it's small evolutions that keep adding up) is because it's just so recognizable and so well established that if they ever tried to change the silhouette or the recipe, they'd be committing suicide. the gran turismo came out in 2008, its not as well driving, not as well reputed, and this one is priced way too high to ever make sense
I do not get why Doug is not happy with the design. Original design was peefection, you do not change perfection! I do not see Doug saying this about Porsche 911.
Doug I’ve said it before I’ll say it again - review the cars outside!!! The audio in the garage is NOT GOOD, and the natural light and atmosphere outside really help with the visuals of the car and the mood of the video!!!
Not worth it. Have to deal with weather, people coming up to say hi constantly, finding a location, other noise, limitations to the time of day you can film. Sure it's better quality, but in his position the slight improvement in quality isn't worth the trouble.
@@evilcookiekiller how is it not worth it if it makes a better product? Look at his counterparts in throttle house, straight pipes, anyone else and the production level is miles ahead. Just being outside is the bare minimum here
Doug … this car looks incredible. The new one is nicer than the last - more elegant, but the car is better overall under the skin too. Looking similar isn’t a bad thing. If you want something different there are 500 other car makers
Yes, the interior controls seems horrendous. But i suspect this is focused mainly on chinese market, as maserati is very popular over there, and they love touchscreens like nothing else.
It looks like Dory from Finding Nemo in the face. The original was definitely a 10. This looks like a Chinese knock off the original. Or like a Grand Theft Auto interpretation of the original Should I keep roasting it? I could keep going. This is coming from someone who considered buying the original
By 2030 they will. I'm saying this with deep regret because I owned 4.7 GT, possibly will get to MC stradale in the future. Instead lobbying against stupid gov regulations, EU producers are making gimmics to meet "emissions". Well lowering emissions also lowers emotions. This car is a pass for me.
@@MrLtybul Maserati is going nowhere. Stellantis is not exactly a struggling conglomerate and they consider Maserati to be their premium crown jewel. How shiny that jewel is is a different discussion, but the point is there's no indication Stellantis is about to stop investing in Maserati.
@@jpl8878 It doesn't guarantee the return of that investment. Success of Maserati depends on their customers. Like many people said before me, new GT is overpriced V8-less, tablet proposition, that fell short on performance. Nothing to die for.
The original Granturismo is one of the most beautiful car designs of the past 50 years, plus it has that glorious sounding Ferrari made 4.7 V8. The first run (as with most all new cars) had some issues. But those were all addressed, and from 2014-19, they are known to be highly reliable long-term owners and drivers. I believe that low mileage examples of those years will be rising in value, & likely, much sooner than later.
I got a crazy deal on a 24 Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo. 1 Year lease 15,000 miles. $23,000. The car is delightful tech is great super comfortable, great sound system, and some how the car actually performs. Lets just say i will use ALL of my 15,000 miles haha.
$23K is likely to be less (possibly substantially less) than the depreciation. It also appears to be noticeably less than many dealers are advertising (per year) for a four year lease period with a 15,000 mile per year allowance. How much was the initial payment? And was that initial payment cash, or part of a deal in which you traded in another vehicle?
@@wesgregg6451 it was a Maserati special they only ran it for like 2 weeks. That if you you are an owner of a porsche , Ferrari , Lamborghini you can qualify the program they discontinued it probaly because they lost so much money doing it. But yeah it was just 23k and that was it no monthly payment haha
A few thoughts after seeing the vid: 1. The car is absolutely beautiful 2. The digital clock is f*cking tacky. For this price, give us a proper analog from a serious watchmaker. 3. The idea of a "power/brake" meter is actually pretty damn awesome. It's really helpful in evaluating your driving, as well as determining break fatigue (sports driving). 4. Way too much touchscreen interaction. Basic features should have analog dials. 5. Too many tridents. 6. Most of the above considered, maybe better get a good condition earlier model.
The cheapest GranTurismo of this generation will be a salvage title Folgore (electric variant) that needs a new battery pack due to someone driving and crashing it like a different Stellantis product
I don't understand the pricing of Maseratis and who buys them. They think they're Ferraris or something. They should be half the price or even less in my opinion.
200000 is actually insane. Did they do any market research? There is no way anybody who has that kinda money will fall for this, the jig is up with Maserati. Everyone knows theyre not the most luxurious or sporty brand, its just for show
That's right in the middle of the GT market, where you'd expect Maserati to be. Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes are cheaper. Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Bentley are more expensive
Im glad Maserati is getting itself back into the true high end market. The design may be similar to the original one, but the materials are fantastic, it looks modern, its fast, and seems to be of far higher quality than it used to be.
I like it, but Maserati is really out of step with their rivals. It's already almost dated. It's really a DB11 competitor, but Aston Martin just released the DB12 that has over 100 horsepower more than this Granturismo. Bentley also just released the new Continental GT that's up over 200 horsepower on this. Both Aston's and Bentley's 500 HP engines are last-generation. The Ferrari Roma has over 600 HP. Even the electric Folgore trim is already dated. It's the same technology as the original Taycan, but Porsche just released a comprehensive update to that too. This new Granturismo is leaps and bounds ahead of the old model, but the cars it would compete with have already moved on and it feels like Maserati is always a step behind their competitors.
What a time to be alive. Lexus made an LS500 that's so sporty and small inside that no one wants it. Maserati made a $230k+ mid-engine car with as much plastic as a $75k C8. And their GT has a V6 and costs as much as a slightly used V10 R8. For $160k I can absolutely find a 991.2 or 992 Porsche 911 Turbo.
What a bunch of confusing and L takes. Did you mean IS500 or LC500? The LS500 is not small, and the other 2 are pretty coveted. 2, the C8 isn't plastic-fantastic. 3 of course it has a V6, it's 2024, not 2004. I agree, it is stupidly overpriced.
True, but you can't put four adults in any exotic GT (except maybe a Bentley GT which costs a lot more). If you have a (small) family, this is actually an excellent allrounder.
I will say the wheel to wheelwell gap and ride-height are a bit off. Wheels look too small. Go look at an M850i or AM Vantage. But body wise, looks great.
I think it’s unfair to criticize the looks because it’s similar to the predecessor, the old one looked great, and this new one looks modernized and refreshed, I rlly think Maserati nailed the design of the new gran turismo, shame it’s priced so high
it's the same anywhere else for the previous gen. I'm glad because I love old luxury/GT cars, especially ones that I can afford with my measly $40k/yr salary (don't ask how much it costs to live in Idaho). I'm looking into getting a Jag X100 or used Maserati some day. I'd LOVE an Aston V550 but I'm poor. The previous GranTurismo's predecessor, the Coupe are ones I'd also love but considering how much cheaper, available, and more reliable an XK8 is, I'll stick with my first pick.
One of the worlds greatest mysteries. My theory: people really stupid with money like athletes and rappers. Or...ultra wealthy who have hundreds of millions and dont care about the depreciation losses buy them for their kids for their first car. Or as gifts. Or...lastly, oil sheaks buy them for their collection
Doug, the kind of guy that has real bendy fingers and presses the screen as he presses the buttons above the screen. Literally no one else will have this issue.
Always have that bitter sweet feeling when Doug reviews Maserati. I looove the styling of GT old one this one doesn’t matter- they’re the same. But than Doug just destroy them tear into pieces
@@arizonacolour8793 yea bro the Mercedes Benz AMG ABC-Class CLK SLR SLS Coupe G looks soo much better, or you could go with the AMG XYZ-Class CLK SLR EQB Maybach bro
$230,000 seems like a lot of money, but keep in mind that luxury touring cars generally cost around $100,000, and performance sports cars generally cost around $100,000, so when you add the two together, which this car is, then the $200,00 price tag makes sense! (I know my logic is flawed, but that's probably the way Maserati calculated the price!)
Why is there so much hate on a modernized version of this beautiful silhouette. Porsche literally does the same thing with the 911s. They look the same every generation with some changes in front and rear graphics and is praised for it.
I know, it looks horrible. It does not fit with the flowing lines of this car. It screams "but we have to have one of those camera mirrors everyone is doing"
the entirety of this car is an obvious afterthought. It was forced into production by a committee, rather than the team of designers who wanted to bring the Gran Turismo name back to life.
@@jasonkolker9444 the car could have just had a smooth lump like my truck. Making it a shark fin (with a large black tip, not just a camera hole) looks terrible on that car.
what about mercedes? they are actually good so they deserve to put two logos. Maserati puts logos everywhere because the branding is the only selling point, which has even stopped working now
Numbers don't lie and the MC20s sales have been poor because it has a V6. If someone wants a V6 with scissor doors they'd spend $160k on a mclaren 570s not $230k on an MC20. If the MC20 had the Grandturismo's old V8 it would have sold much better
@@missemotional8710 that's the statement of someone who's never driven an amazing sounding car like a Maserati, Ferrari, Jaguar, etc 😂🤡 Go buy a Tesla and enjoy your sound-free drive.
The bewildering insanity and irony of putting the headlight controls in the screen: "ooh, it's getting dark and I might struggle to see, so I'll just take my eyes off the road to try and find where my headlight button is".
I don’t get it, it looks great, just like the old version. Are you going to hope on the “all 911s look like the old version “ train now too? I don’t get the hostility to the looks, it looks fantastic
As someone who loves the design, I think the issue is that they took a 4 year break to completely redesign the car that they launched in 2007 and came out with...a facelifted version for that car and asked $100K more for what was already an overpriced car. To ask the kind of money they're asking, the car would have to be a phenomenal standout design...like the MC20. This car is much more of a competitor to the Emira, Jaguar F-Type R, Lexus LC500, (in terms of pricing/market placement) and would be great at the $110k-$160k range.
I don’t have an issue with styling, it looks great. Nobody complaints about Porsches looking like Porsches and their design language remains nearly identical for decades.
This is likely significantly more expensive to build - or at least to develop - because the V6 and the electric variant are the exact same body, so they had to spend time, effort, and money on a solution that buits both ICE and EV
Doug You are too theatrical and hysteric. Porsche is the same forever. This car is an incredible art and driving machine. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Respect the engineers and designers who have made this beautiful car.
I assume the reason you would have to press hard to change gears is so that you dont accidentally change gears while adjusting the climate or using the infotaintmaint screen
A lot of jealous peasantry comments and hatred towards this car and the brand can't we just appreciate the beauty and passion of this brand and be grateful this car manufacturer is still in existence in this ruthless cutthroat automotive world would be poorer, uglier and sadder world without this magnificent marque!
What’s absolutely bizarre is that there are actually people that will buy a spec’d out model for $220k+… Especially considering the available cars that are around that price point.
@@davidglieder8862 Its how every car should be. Default to Auto-on, every start-up. Been driving since 2003 never mess with turning lights on myself. GM's been doing it right since the 90's.
You can put these in Sport mode and have the suspension in the softer setting. Just put it in sport mode and click the shock button on the center of the drive mode dial.
In my opinion, other car companies should have done this when it comes to body styling. Like Toyota with the Supra and the MR2. Like Acura with the NSX and Mazda with the RX8. Maybe if they had continued where these cars left off, they would have sold more especially the NSX.
