2023 - 2024 PA Hunting license and doe tags go on sale Monday, June 26th at 8am. No more pink envelopes!
Round 1 - June 26, 2023 at 8am. Resident hunters may purchase their 2023-2024 antlerless deer license. *Non-residents cannot purchase their antlerless deer license until July 10, 2023 at 8am.
Round 2 - July 24, 2023 at 8am. Resident and non-resident hunters can purchase their second antlerless deer license, or up to two licenses during this round.
Round 3 - August 14, 2023 at 8am. Resident and non-resident hunters can purchase their third antlerless deer license, or up to three licenses during this round.
Round 4 - August 28, 2023 at 8am. Resident and non-resident hunters can purchase additional antlerless deer license until reaching their annual personal limit of six antlerless tags.

PA's Deer Rifle Season Saturday Opener - Background and the Vote
• PA's Deer Rifle Season...
The PA Game Commission broke from the tradition which dated back to 1963 by moving the opening day of our firearms season from the Monday after Thanksgiving to the first Saturday instead. The move has generated a torrent of backlash given minimal support from the hunting community and virtually zero data supplied by the Game Commission which demonstrated any real evidence to support the move.
Join us as we dive into Part 2 of the conversation as NCPA Outdoors was there for all of the public comment meetings in January and April 2019. Please note the microphones at the podium as well as individual mic’s in front of each commissioner only ever worked about 10% of the time and has been something the public has commented on for quite some time. If you were only able to view the meetings from the Commissions RU-vid channel, you know it was difficult to hear everything.

Logged on at 7:59am and watched the countdown clock tick off the last 30 seconds before sending me (Kris) into the holding queue as #15,478. I received the email notification at 2pm that I could finally log on. Was able to secure my license and doe tag as well as Kaden and Kam's. Never heard or read anything about the $4.40 per transaction processing fee until after paying and received the receipt. May have to see what state Rep. Nick Pisciottano has to say given his “Pay the Price You See” bill in Committee on Consumer Protection, Technology, and Utilities.

FINALLY got all of ours in the mail on 8-14-23... nearly two months after completing the 6-26-23 transaction online. Sheesh....

Who'd have thought in 2023 anyone would have to wait hours to be able to log on and do something on the Internets? =) Seeing the pictures people are sharing, I feel (I think) for those people who had nothing better to do today but stand in an actual line for hours only to be told the system wasn't moving. Like the line.

Thanks John, appreciate that! Pretty crazy... we were up there a year or two ago to check out a place that was for sale and hardly recognized the landscape. Just a few decades ago, all up through there was nothing but vast acres of untouched wilderness that Joel & I hiked and hunted.

I got in the queue at 8:02, 26,783 in line, wasn't sure if i would be able to get my tags and my sons all in one transaction so i got a second spot in line at 8:11, 38,007. I got my license and doe tag for 3D around 3:30 but after the checkout i saw my bear tag was gone. Around 5:30 i got back in the second time and got my oldest son his tags and was able to log out of his account and back into mine and add my black bear and elk points. All in all it went better than i expected since i had very low expectations to begin with, i honestly didn't have a problem with the pink envelopes but im sure this is more cost effective for the state, couldn't agree more with the opportunity comment though.

It's an unfortunate experience no matter which way you look at it. Appreciate the PGC video that was released later in the day yesterday but the damage was done and could have been completely avoided. There really was no reason why this shouldn't have been anything but a seamless experience. They had how long?

@NCPAOutdoors exactly, they had more than enough time to avoid the disaster and if they needed more time we had a working system in place, they could have waited another year. The comments on that game commission video make for some really good reading material.

I got on the website at 11am Monday. I didn’t have any going on so I was number 90900 in line it took 9 1/2 hours to purchase my license. Just think 20 years ago I walked into a Walmart in Morgantown WV bought a out of state license, archery stamp and two doe tags in 5 mins. I guess the PA game commission has some catching up to do.

I do miss the old tags. They had character and were fun to collect through the years. Not that I ever had unfilled tags to enjoy looking back on... cough, cough! These new printer spit out slips are about as boring as a roll of TP!

Speaking of "opportunity"... a friend lives in Ohio and has TWICE as many days to hunt with his license as I do... because he can hunt on Sundays... too many of us care more about the 2nd Amendment than the 1st... we should be able to hunt on any day that end in Y. Many of us frustrated at the glitches and website crash on Monday... not enough of us upset about the glitch that happens every Sunday of the hunting season... the inability to use that license

What a joke,! I entered the portal at 8 am and wasn’t able to buy my doe license until 1:10. And because I was at lunch I missed the 10 minute time limit. Henise I had to go back in to re register. Now I have over 100,000 people ahead of me. So I thought I would head in to Dick’s to purchase my doe license over the counter. Luckily I called first. There was a 2 hour wait and they were stopping at 7:00. This was a huge disaster for the Pa game commission. Right idea poor execution

Got my tag, I had no problem with the system besides the tremendous amount of wait time. Now that the day has come and gone. I’d love to hear how things went for y’all. I don’t mind the new system, what’s your opinion?

There's some re-evaluation on the process that needs to happen in my opinion. One of those, like JDWalker mentioned here in the comments, I feel for the people who own PA property but live out of state... even just over the border and are unable to participate until weeks later especially considering 2G - one of those 'just over the border WMU's' sold out in less than 2 1/2 days. USPS handled the volume better than a computer program. And it didn't cost us $4.40 per tag to get that app in. Even if the system is drastically upgraded next year and can handle the volume on Day 1, there's still issues that need addressed.

@@NCPAOutdoors agreed, that was something I was looking at. I was fortunate to draw 2G. However, that’s very unfortunate for those out of staters that will never have the chance. With the merge of 2G and 2H it caused even more of a fiasco. I’m not going to question the game commissions decision but maybe re-analysis of the system would help. Otherwise the same will happen to future seasons. Hopefully good changes come. Thanks for providing your input.

I wish they would allow non-resident landowners to apply with residents. We pay those taxes too.

Very valid point! Non-resident landowners should have the same opportunity. I'd suggest verbally pleading your case before the Board during an upcoming quarterly meeting but it would likely fall on deaf ears sadly.
