I am assuming this bike you rode didn’t pull to the right? Do you know if RE has found a solution to the issue or is going to recall the ones that do? I’m super keen to get one of these new Himmy 450s providing all is as it should be.

I did not feel pull to the right at all. Run perfectly straight even with hands off the handlebars

There is some disagreement about how to say the word "Himalayan." I do want to point out that at 2:50, you talk about the mountains, for which the bike is named, and you say: "Him-ilayas" as an American would pronounce the word, but when referring to the bike you switch to the British English pronunciation. There's no right or wrong way to say something, all words are just temporary agreements, but I did find an Australian channel that was unnecessarily snippy and rude about only using the British English version.

Mate is a trials rider, trail rider since the early 70s and a Harley Ultra owner with 165,000 Ks on it (it’s like a new girlfriend, I can’t keep off it) I love the Hymalayan 450 I just bought. My son has the previous model so I bought one so I can ride with him. I absolutely love it. It’s easy to throw around, has enough power and torque and an unbeatable price on the road. I still love my “Cadillac” for burning the highway miles though.

As a HD owner, why not go for a more premium Adventure bike over the RE Himalayan? What appeals to you on the more rugged 450? I am a HD owner myself, I am between a few ADV bikes, the Himalayan tops my list right now. The price tag seemingly cannot be beaten for the bike RE is providing.

I think I realized why there is a vibration problem. It's geared too low. Apparently the Himalayan turns 5,700 rpms at 70mph (110 kmh). Hopefully someone can make a 10 tooth smaller rear sprocket, or a 2 tooth larger front countershaft sprocket, or both. My 1977 XS400 Yamaha twin had about 30 horsepower. It turned a similar 6,000 rpms at 70 mph, which was not acceptable to me. After putting a tiny rear sprocket on (from a Honda CB160 twin) the Yamaha would creep down the road at just above an idle at 60 mph. They say it only takes about 7 horsepower to go 60 mph, so you don't need to be turning 5,700 rpms. The super low gears on modern motorcycles is an abomination. Why would anyone want to be turning 5,700 rpms at 70 mph?

I'm a 452 owner, haven't had the opportunity to do much yet (wet & cold), but I am shore I made the right choice. Keeping my KLX400e (DRz) for the tough stuff and trips to the shop. Was looking for a low k F800gs & then the Himalayan was released a t a price point where I jumped at it. Having been an Itchy Boots follower for a few years, I was sold. Looking forward to a trip to my brother's block behind Taree for some camping soon, have a route planned, as the weather is becoming a bit more conducient to winter travel on dirt roads. Great video Rob. I agree with all you've said. After putting several hundred kms on one, I can confidently say (well in my opinion anyway) this is the best new RE since the Continental GT 535. As a novice off-road rider, it was super forgiving & on road it was perfect in every way. Yes I'm biased, but it would be pretty hard to beat on bang for buck. @frankpinion4937
@frankpinion4937 3 месяца назад
I owned 2 Himalayan's. first one was a carby model & the second was injected. Their were in my opinion a couple of fairly obvious short comings of the bike. 1 effected it more off road & the other issue effected it's on road performance. I'm talking about the weight or excess weight with old model coming in at 200 kg with fluids (kerb weight). This is exactly the same weight as my MotoGuzzi '07 750 V twin with shaft drive. The other issue was a general lack of performance on the road. I'm not talking about speeding but just passing somone in passing lane it's top speed was 120 kph. Now they've addressed the mid to high end power issue with a new higher reving twin cam four valve engine, however for the most part the weight issue has remained with the new one coming in at 196 kg kerb weight. This isn't so good & the fact that the side stand has the bike leaning over further than ever before makes the weight of the bike immediatly noticeable. Something that wouldnt' have helped is the new forward mounted shock which has not only lengthened the bike but also meant having to put the air cleaner under the tank. So you guessed it-now you have to remove the tank to get to the air cleaner (thanks to some moron designer wearing a suit & tie). Pro link on the previous Himalayan worked fine & obviously took up a lot less room. Not helping the weight situation is that now the bike is taller, wider & longer than previous model. In fact it's very close to the size of a middleweight bike like the F850GS, Tenere 700 & the Tuareg 660. In contrast the new Triumph Scrambler 400X comes in at 179 kg. That's a massive difference especially when you're man handling the bike in difficult terrain or you're having to turn around on a cambered hill. Sadly I think it could have being better if they's stuck to improving the short falls of the previous model. I don't think enough attention has being payed to user's comments about the outgoing model. This is unfortunate. I disagree-you comment in your opinion it has overcome the power issues however if you watch Itch boots on the pre production model in india on difficult terrain she was frequently having to slip the clutch & rev it in more difficult slow going conditions. This i noticed more than once in her real world tests. I got the impression it needed 1 tooth smaller sprocket on the front to give it a bit mroe tractibility as it lacked the low end pull of the LS410 engine with the long stroke. I also disagree with your comments about the weight & being top heavy. It's heavy for a 450cc bike at 196 kg. Itchy boots even commented she felt it was still too heavy & she felt that Royal Enfield made motorcycles like tank's that were indestructible. I'm not sure why they presist with steel swing arm's which most other manufacturers dropped years ago. I think it looks better in black as it disguises the fact that it has such a gigantic tank with tiny side covers. I've heard it mentioned by quite a few people that they don't like the look of it. So clearly it's not to everyone's taste. Personally I don't like it. I think Triumph have done a far better job with their Scrambler 400X as well as retaining the retro look which blends nicely with the other scramblers in the range. This to me doesn't look anything like the old Himalayan apart from the metal frame beside the tank.
@Willberight2moro

@timlubbers2884
@timlubbers2884 3 месяца назад
Any adv bike with reasonable ground clearance will feel top heavy, at least to a point. I think it’s a issue of comparison; I ride a klr and compared to my (past) 800gs and especially my Africa twin the klr is light, but compared to my (past) crf250l my klr is heavy… I think that question of top heavy or not should be compared to its direct competition for your dollars. 🤷🏻‍♂️

May be the Enfeild engineers in there research and development could do some thing about the vibes as they used the engine as part of the frame ,we know it’s a single and you expect some vibration but may be they could do something to reduce the vibes ,it’s still a good bike and for value you can’t beat it in the bike market it’s definatly a winner it dose every thing it says on the tin ,oh it can do with a longer side stand ,jimmy west Aust

This motorcycle is poorly made, it has an ugly and non-functional dashboard, some things such as the central stand do not work, but it is a great fun to ride off-road. You can drive it on asphalt because it drives great, but the pitifully weak engine is not suitable for that. And it's not about speed (although driving above 100 km/h is a challenge), but about very frequent gear changes - a complete lack of flexibility. It's a simple off-road machine and it's great in that role. I am not convinced by the durability of this motorcycle. I hope I'm wrong.

No thanks. My 411 motor blew up at just 11000 miles leaving me stranded in the middle of buttfuck nowhere. There's plenty of evidence that himmi motors have a shelf life of 36k miles. Infact i don't think there's a single himmy engine that has successfully traversed past that. They all blow up as soon as it hits that magic figure which is sorta impressive as i wouldn't have imagined RE having the technical competence for pulling off a planned obsolescence-kill switch😂. This new fangled LC engine is a first for royal enshit and i don't plan on being a beta tester for them again. Besides, the KTM 390 is still superior in just about every way. Why experiment with 3rd world garbage.
