Itchy Boots has been riding the new Himalayan for the past month in the Punjab, the Himalayan mountains of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, and has ridden it above 17,000 feet. Her comments on the bike have been 100% positive, with many special mentions of how good the suspension is when riding in the gravel and rocks fully loaded. You keep talking about "Budget price range" when describing the various bits on the bike. Let's not forget this bike is built to a price to put it within purchasing reach of many more people than the so called "premium" brands. Any company that can produce products that brings more people into our sport and lifestyle, the better. Three cheers to Royal Enfield, a company whose hard work and innovation has brought literally millions into the fold of motorcycling!

A few more important things ... fuel capacity seems okay (17 litres), it's got a centre stand, 21" front wheel, and decent coverage of the mudguard. Hopefully the radiator guard will be a standard item and not an optional accessory. Overall the bike looks good, and it'll be interesting to compare it with the KTM 390 Adventure. A big thumbs up to Royal Enfield for this model.

If the price point is as per the recent RE models then this bike looks to be a winner, judging by the terrain Itchy boots is putting the bike through it appears to be a strong reliable bike. I hope they show it at Motorcycle Live.
@tangoindiamike9189
@tangoindiamike9189 11 месяцев назад
Why would you expect the price point to be the same? The first flaw in the mindset is the massive inflation since the RE 411 was designed and tooled for production. Second, this is an entirely new bike and engine. A lot of money has gone into the R&D, design, and engineering. They took their time and did extensive testing. They had to tool up for production and get ahead of the production for warranty/replacement parts. Aside from all that, this bike has many new upgrades and features and technology over the 411. Do you seriously expect to get all that for the price of a 411?
@peterhollis8291
@peterhollis8291 11 месяцев назад
@@tangoindiamike9189 I don’t believe I mentioned the Scram 411 in my comment, RE surely carried out similar actions for the Super Meteor & Hunter and still have a lower price point than any competitors. I don’t expect pricing to stay as low as previous years however my point was that if it was then this Bike will beat the competition hands down.

Singles really are the worst engine in history. I was so excited that they made it a parallel twin. A parallel twin engine is a real street engine. A single cylinder engine just doesn't sound good, it sounds pretty awful. A parallel twin with 180 or 270 degree crank, sounds absolutely amazing. Still the new Royal Enfield looks so beautiful, I'd probably buy it, even though it's a single.

Would have been interesting to hear some more technical spec, perhaps details are limited at this stage, plenty of talk about colours and finish ! lol. Guessing there will be the opportunity to upgrade suspension with aftermarket offerings probably the same for other aspects of the bike too! Personally I reckon it will fly off the shelves! @zweispurmopped 11 месяцев назад
Noraly seems to be quite delighted with the 452 already! 🤗 What I noticed in the pictures is that the engine seems to have become part of the stressed structure, other than the 411's frame completely containing the engine. I think that means that there is quite a bit more off road performance due to better power to weight ratio in the design, but there will be a price to pay in ultimate ruggedness. As Royal Enfield don't just look at first world markets but also ones where ultimate ruggedness and cost efficiency matter most, I doubt the 411 will vanish altogether. The 452 rather will make RE travel enduros competitive in Europe and the USA as 40hp finally make their bikes motorway (And especially Autobahn-madness!)-compatible. Having seen several moto travellers' videos of them wedged in between lorries on 411 Himies in the right lane on the Autobahn as their bikes accelerated at a rate better documented on calendars than watches above 100kph made things look rather sketchy for them. Me, I guess this bike will be a massive hit and big seller, maybe even becoming something like poor man's GS.

Indian media is claiming that the 411 is being discarded.
@SonOfDrogo
@SonOfDrogo 11 месяцев назад
Shouldn't a frame in which the engine is not used as a stressed member be more durable? Although the 411 was using cuboidal pipes. So, this frame should definitely be more durable than the 411's since it's tubular. Also, this bike will probably see some dirt during its life, unlike the GS. 😉
@zweispurmopped
@zweispurmopped 11 месяцев назад
@@adityan3208 Hmmm! Two production lines are too expensive then? 🤔 Thanks for that bit of news!
@zweispurmopped
@zweispurmopped 11 месяцев назад
@@SonOfDrogo The cast parts of the engine are stiffer than steel tubes and there of course is weight reduction in dual use of the bits of engine. This weight saving probably was the key factor in not having the 450 gain weight over the 411 despite adding water cooling. There also will be a greater rigidity in the bike which helps its handling at speed. That's why most designs already went that route over the decades. The advantage with the all steel frame of the 411 obviously is that any blacksmith in any outback village anywhere in the world could repair that frame with a furnace and a hammer. A campfire and a rock may do, too. (Stop me before I go down Yorkshiremen-bragging-lane!) So having the steel frame smashing into rocks won't worry a 411 rider as much as the worry for the bashplate's strength a 450 rider will think about in such situations.

The exhaust I presume is stainless steel. What you call "corrosion" is nothing of the sort, merely discolouration which is common to all stainless including BMW. What a lot of manufacturers do is chrome plate the stainless steel and then charge extra for it.

I had a ride on the old Himalayan a couple of years back and was impressed with its lightness and handling but seriously put off by the lack of power. This model looks like a big step up with nearly twice the power of the old model. Hopefully it will have the legs now to put in some long distances that an adventure style bike should be able to do. The black and gold colour scheme looks very attractive. It still needs another 10hp for me to consider it a challenger to my BMW RS for two up continental touring but I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise.

Shame they’ve packed it with electronics which may isolate a lot of people especially given RE’s history with electrics. But power was a big complaint of people that didn’t like the old himmy was power so it’ll likely sell well but isolate its existing fan base.

Noticed also that some bikes have "Rally" on the side of the tail unit and these have the tubeless looking rims, perhaps showing the version for the DAKAR which may come along. Ichty boots is giving the 450 a good run around, and seems to be enjoing the ride better than on her CRF. Definite improvement on the previous model, good to see RE evolving but staying true to the ethos of the Himalayan. Would still buy the Triumph 400x over this. Roll on January 2024

Yes aif the pricing is the same then the Triumph sure wins on looks....I imagine that'll fly off the shelves.

Your audience is American. What is 40PS power? I'm super excited about this new bike, it's so much more beautiful than any of the plastic looking junk.. That torque curve of 90% of the torque coming in at 3,000 rpms, is unheard of in high revving liquid cooled singles. If you ride a DRZ400 Suzuki, there is almost no torque at all, until you get way high up in the revvs, and by that time it's not fun to ride anymore. The old air cooled singles had much better ride-ability at trail riding speeds, with all their torque at 3,000 rpms.

As a non-adventure bike rider, I’ve got to admit that the Himalayan is the only adventure bike which has ever turned my head (especially in black with all the rugged panniers including the fuel containers). The new Himalayan looks to be less military in looks but much more competent than its predecessor. You might have been a little harsh here with the 1st look but let’s see after you take a ride. 👊 also, did you notice what looks to be a usb port on the handlebars…

Hi Andy, To touch on something you said in this video regarding bikes being built to a price, inparticularly what you mentioned about OEM tyres. (Are they top brand names, but budget specials manufactured specifically for new bikes ?) I've seen this mentioned two or three times now. I have a new BSA Gold Star 650. The tyres are Pirelli Phantom Sports Comp. If you want to buy these on the net they are typically £130 - 150 each. However, I've seen these tyres described as budget for new bikes and that they are a poor compound. Is this true ? Us this a subject you could make a short video on or raise it as a question in your q and a videos ? Should we be changing the tyres on every new bike we purchase ? If so, to what ? How much should you pay for a tyre ? Obviously that is very bike dependant. I've always bought by brand names I know, Goodyear, Dunlop, Firestone, Pirelli etc. What is good and what should we avoid ? It's mega confusing. Can you shed any light on this at some point in the future ? Thanks Glyn

Yes tyre manufacturers do make OEM versions specifically for new bikes I understand - pretty sneaky I reckon...

Lots of good things they’ve certainly listened to the 411 riders. It’s all about the price now, they can be competitive with Triumph and sell many or get their toes wet( an in my opinion catch a cold) in the 6-7k market. I’ll buy if it’s under 6 with tubeless rims otherwise I’ll wait until the early adopters have spent their pounds and moved in to the next bit of biking bling.

That Google Maps integration sounds promising. The phone app can use offline maps so should presumably be the same when paired with the bike's dashboard display. Useful for those who don't have a huge data allowance on their phone contract.
