great video. I missed the EV announcement. Glad you added it. Smart they started with the tour companies. Easy machine to maintain. Do you know if they moved the Neo to the gen 5? Guessing no since it was not mentioned. Was also hoping they would add the 10 inch screen to more models. Not keep it for only the high end machines.
Could you post a video about the 900 turbo R renegade for 24 in the G5 chassis? I'm wondering how the handling, etc, is with the weight. I see you guys like the lighter 850 in a G5, but I haven't seen one on the G5 with the different steering post location.... Thanks, Northwoods Snowmobiling
My opinion the best trail sled they ever built is the 850 renegade Xrs. too bad they switched it up , I know the 137 mxz is the same sled but renegade sounds cooler😅 cheers guys. love your content
They literally said don’t leave comments about the ev being bad because it’s not meant for you yet you guys are still doing it be quiet and if your a power freak talk about the 850
I don't understand leaving the 2 stroke Enduro as a renegade. I like the thought of separate renegade/MXZ by engine type. Why throw a wrench in it with one exception? Why not have a Renegade and MXZ with Enduro option?
Nice video hope you can go more in depth later. I’m a 2 stroke guy but I think the electric Grand Touring is cool and will be good for what it’s intended for. SkiDoo is an innovator I have to give them that.
Is anyone else getting less and less snow? I've been wanting to purchase a snowmobile for the last couple years and it seems like since I started looking we get less snow every year. I live on the east coast of Canada along the bay of fundy and with the exception of a few days here and there it hasn't really dipped below 0 this year. Even the ice fishing is suffering this year.
Minnesota has had more snow this year than in the past ten by far. You can ride the whole state under great conditions. Sorry your area sucks this year.
I'm certain Ski-Doo has been working on and testing this for a while. Also likely the reason they started with tour operators and not hardcore snowmobilers.
EV’s rely on a lack of rolling resistance more than anything. The less a vehicle can coast after letting off the throttle, the less range it’s going to have. Snow is a terrible thing to travel thru if you’re looking for efficiency especially if it’s not packed down like concrete. Electric snowmobiles will never have a decent range with the battery technology that currently exists. Sleds require constant torque to keep moving forward…..cars don’t.
I'm pretty sure the range is deliberately kept down as the smaller battery pack weigh less and cost less and they simply don't need more range. The fact the battery is under the hood confirms it's pretty small. The Taiga sleds have more than twice the range, at least according to specs, and it has the battery under the seat.
For the Electric sled 30 miles is a very short range. I see Electric Sleds working well at Ski Restores with an aggressive track to get to the top of the Mountain and regenerative braking on the way back down .
Got to give Doo credit for being very progressive in an industry where not all players are & winters in parts of southernmost Canada & the US are not much more than a couple months in length anymore.
Why can the G5 mountain sleds have a nice integrated hood but the trail and crossover sleds have a big piece of black plastic surrounding the headlights? 1:35 Is it a functional piece that's easily removed for service or something? That part of the sled makes me want to stick with my G4 for a while.
So, each dealership had only two MXZ's available, and we're sold out before the doors opened. Is this intentional? The Rave/Exterrain look amazing! Love the new Backcountry as well but why wouldn't they have put a turbo in that one as well (assault/vr1).
Oh for sure it was intentional. The guys that got these sleds are going to be the most popular on the trails next season and in 2025 Ski Doo could sell a billion of them.
I guess what I don't understand is their limited release competition sled still has inferior shocks to a Lynx Rave. I guess I'm confused as to what direction Ski Doo is moving with their shock packages. I had been hoping Smart Shox would have moved down to more sleds this year, but it seems they have pushed trail riding 600 users to the back for another year. I guess the boys at Ski-Doo never heard, Happy Wife, Happy Life. My wife doesn't want an 850 and doesn't want a 900r.
Sounds like what I have heard from my ski doo buddies, depending on the model, you are limited to one or the other. Oh, and depending on supply, you my get neither when your sled shows up.
Sorry going to have disagree you with the EV snowmobile, I think it’s a terrible idea. I design electric power grids, most of the tour groups live in areas where they only have single phase power available, therefore only a slow charge would be available and you wouldn’t have the capacity to charge a whole fleet of electric sleds at once without 3 phase being available, and that’s assuming that feeder isn’t at max capacity already. Maybe the tour groups are renting the sleds from ski doo but if not then the resell value would also be terrible.
Electric may not be viable yet… but honestly if you don’t see it as the future yet idk what you’re seeing that I’m Not. Baby step. So many options this year wish I could afford that turbo man..
There is so much ridiculous hate towards EV sleds. What these people fail to realize, is the sooner the manufacturer starts developing these sleds, and the more there are of them on the market, the better they will be the day there is nothing else available.
This is my biggest concern for the future!! Fuel!! All performance sled from factory require 91 but we can only get non eth 90 at most stops and then if you tune your ride your stuck with 20$ a can booster or 110 in the caddy it sucks
I was super excited to watch the reveal two nights ago. But I'm a little (maybe a lot) put off by the pricing this year. I've been riding Ski-Doo since 2013. Might purchase a non-current. I'm seeing an Arctic Cat Hardcore with an attractive price. Any Ski-Doo riders out there who have ridden the modern Cats for comparison? Am I making a mistake thinking the way I am?
I currently ride a 2022 Arctic cat alpha one. I've ridden the 2023 gen 5 turbo summit. In my opinion, the cat is easier to maneuver & tough to beat for price. The only reason I'd switch to the skidoo is for the turbo. If you're riding a naturally aspirated sled, cat is at the top in terms of price & performance.
Purchase price is a small part of the formula. Ownership cost (Purchase price - residual value) + Operating cost (fuel + maintenance). Skidoo have significantly higher resale vs cat. When you take everything into consideration they are cheaper to own (unless you plan on keeping forever). Same ideal why you see so much Caterpillar construction equipment, does it perform that much better to warrant a 10-20% higher price, no, but when you factor cost per hr it’s cheaper.
@@pierre_desbiens good perspective. I don't have enough experience with skidoo to know for sure. With that said, I bought a 2019 alpha one for $11,500 (new). I sold it for $9,900 with 500 miles on it in December. If you ask me, that is VERY good value even according to your logic. Again, I'm not saying your point about skidoos is inaccurate, but your point about cats not holding value, well, that hasn't been my experience at all.
Not sure how long this will continue as profit margins will be shrinking post covid and only a matter of time before sales dry up and the accountants pull the pin on BRP sleds…just look at the balance sheets
Nobody likes talking about the minerals and strip mining that occurs to make all these batts, not to mention the child labor issues in Africa to dig the cobalt up. Keep the EV's at the ski hill and tour guides.
Depending on the charge time and price, I could see a market for a utility EV. I know a few people who burn more gas in their chainsaw in a day than their snowmobile to haul it home.
Like it or not future is coming. Change happens can't stop it. They may not be great yet but neither were sleds 30 years ago compared to now. Think of all the land owners that would open up their land for trials if the sleds were quiet. You may love the sound but lots of people hate noisy off road machines.
EV will not make it unless the battery technology changes, until then gas and oil will still rule. Kinda funny too how plastics and most materials require….oil…
@@Kevin-gn8cz ahh yes, the promised future of disposable vehicles full of toxic materials mined half a world a way by slave labor, that take hours to charge (to go less than 50 miles), and aren’t meant to be fixed by the owner, but discarded. A “green” future foisted upon us by politicians who live in massive, disgusting, eroding cities, who haven’t stepped foot in a forest or lake in years (but who know what’s best to preserve them). Definitely change we should embrace with open arms.
Imagine a beautiful morning on perfect trails heading to your favorite spot and having to turn around because the range won't allow you to get there and back . Or you get to the lodge and everyone wants to take the freshly groomed slightly longer route ....sorry we can't I don't have the range
