These are some features I'd expect in a AAA release. If we did get all of these features within the year, and stability picks up, I think it'll feel like a different game. Big if, though!
Most things are waiting on working server meshing to work well. Right now a single server cant handle the load for many features. Some don't add much more to server load but many do. NPC which are a big part of the game (or will be eventually) are just scarecrows tell we get server meshing. And server meshing will allow quanta to go into effect to really breath life into the verse.
@@Arthillis Because it need to load way to much entities now. Server meshing will organise that better yes. NPC is big one on performance. NPC A.I. is even big system performance eater in non online games. I still am not sure about server meshing. They realy need to prove it to me. Cause maybe you reduce entities but you will; have alot more connections going having control over these entities trough server meshing.
It will definitely feel like a new game if it all comes in and as you stated in the video, that is a big if with CIG. However until proven wrong I will always give them the benefit of doubt, since right now it is to early to know whether they are over-promising for all we know most of it has advanced further than we think/know. Great video, thanks for your community work, sir!
Here's a cold shower. Out of the approximately 56 features promised in October, 1 is in PU so far. 1/56 delivered so far, no 2024 is not gonna be the year.
Every few months I just get that sense of WTF when I realized that planetary scale is talking about a relatively small scale in this context. And I love that.
As a somewhat ‘newer’ player in the verse, I’m really excited (and still somewhat appreciative) as to what number of features we will see in the year ahead. With such a diverse range of features listed, it’s difficult not to get over-hyped for this year. Thanks for compiling such an amazing outlook of the year ahead. Common @toesgang, let’s boost this vid up to where it belongs on YT!!
There's no way they'll implement even 10% of this in the next year. I love the ambition, but CIG isn't unlike Tesla. They set lofty goals to get the wheels turning, then underdeliver. We still get awesome stuff, it just takes way longer than promised.
This video was straight fire, bruh! Man it got me so hyped. The music, editing, voice over all top notch and matched up with Relevant visuals. Berry mice.
S42 being finally feature complete is a huge landmark for SC, because not only we will receive all the features developed for S42 in SC, but because we will also benefit from a lot of S42 devs being transferred onto SC. CitizenCon was huge this year not because they showed us crazy ambitions, but rather mechanics and game systems they've been working on since almost 10 years for Squadron 42.
Man, even if they pull a CIG and deliver only 10% of these features, I'm still pumped for all of them and happy to get whatever gets done. It's a great time to be a fan.
15:28 Just to clarify. I don't mean the features will not enter the game, just that they will not when we are expecting it. Always anticipate some slips!
I wouldn't mind playing with you as well. This game is much better with someone to fly with. And maybe we could help each other get money or gear or just mess around
I have only had this game for a year but even for how little time that is and the state the game is in this game has made some of my favorite gaming moments of my life.
Did the same, decided to get it for myself for Christmas, and it is DEFINITELY playable rn. In 80hrs of playing only 2 server crashes and 2 game crashes
@@derqatarzan4207 you definitely haven't played the game if you think you can do everything in a day. Just exploring the 4 major landing zones takes a whole day. I had fun trying salvage with some friends, doing bunker missions, stealing drugs, leveling up to ERT bounties, trying out all new kinds of ships, and mining. That brought me to about 70hrs, and I'll probably take a break now until 3.23
@@derqatarzan4207 in a day or 2?! I’m not saying the game is finished or playable, but if you managed to try all the game loops in 2 days I don’t know what to say. Here are the loops: delivery (shit gameplay), mining (by hand, ground, flying), drug dealer, medic, npc bounties, player bounties, pirate, bunker raids, cargo, dismantling (don’t remember the actual name, sorry I’m not english). Then there are other big missions that gets you a lot of money and pretty high risk since other players can come and kill you or destroy your ship while you are on the ground or in the station. To do all of this you need a ton of in-game money and/or ships
@@derqatarzan4207 there is now way you can do everything in 2 days, you can tell whenever someone hasn't actually played the game and just hate watches videos
Your videos are on point! Your "b" roll, timing and editing look fantastic homie. "Huge" is an understatement (I think) when describing this game. I think the longer some of us is around, we tend to forget all amazing things this game brings us. But the future looks even bigger and I am stoked to be a part of it.
this is now the only game I play, now that the Hull C is in PU I had a chance to see how it works... the loading and unloading is buying and selling have too many steps, but holy cow the dream of being a space trucker is real and I'm nothing but excited to see where it's going. the people who are going deep into base building are going to need supplies and I'll be the player to deliver, for a price of course 😁
Yeah, just given that Sq42 is getting close, like...ferreals close and not just CLOSE™, I would say that the clock is definitely ticking on a lot of these features if CIG wants that game to appear professional and polished. Great summary, Tomato!
@9:15 One statement that can, and should, lead to another full year of work: _I want to be able to open and view the contents of those cargo boxes. Diamonds, gold, quantanium... should all have physical models._ _This was an original design plan. Viewing the contents of containers was already _*_sort of_*_ part of the earliest 2.0+ builds._
After they iron out the FPS fundamentals, I hope they work on some good throwables and auxilliary functions. Smoke Grenades that aren't just cloud but also mask EM/IR signatures, Deployable sensors to scan ahead without emitting a lot of EM yourself, better flares for lighting in caves, night vision, pinging system for communication with squadmates.
I personally can't wait for passive/natural events to occur with NPC aliens, humans, planetary creatures, and new places to explore on planets, some that aren't even mapped. This game adding a reason and thrill to exploration would be a huge step in it's path to reaching it's potential
I like one to one spatial scales, the immersion of imagining being in our galaxy, traveling, exploring, encountering. Now I'm realizing that CIG is moving toward one to one temporal scale. I saw another channel talk about it taking four hours to repair damage to their ship with the handheld salvage/repair tool. They seemed excited. But, how many people will want to do thst. The novelty will wear off quickly. The realism could be too much like IRL, too much like a real job. Even if you could hire NPCs to repair your ship, who would want to wait four hours IRL for a small repair before they could play on? Likewise with cargo loading, will it be too much like cargo loading IRL?
It won't be. It is a sim, but these are game developers creating it. They know it needs to balance fun and immersion. They know I'm order to survive people actually need to play the game. 4 hours to repair a ship would be insane, that might be the case with a hand repair, but nobody would ever be doing that in-game. Same with certain hauling, most won't be carrying more than a couple boxes, the hefty long jobs are for those specifically there for it.
SpaceTomato is probably the only creator that’s able to get me excited for this game again. I’ve only spent 45 dollars on a starter pack, and I refuse to spend any more irl money until there’s a finished game to play. But damn, these concept videos look so good and SpaceTomato explains exactly how these conceptual technologies might be realized in game. Best part of the video for me is was the UI concepts. I’ve always maintained, you can create an amazing game with an unforgettable story, but if the UI sucks, I want no part of it. Case and point, ME1. I absolutely love ME2 and even 3, but fuck me if I can make it all the way through 1 without throwing my Xbox controller through the screen.
Im sure Mr tomato 🍅 tried to avoid making it a hype video, but I must admit, it does get me excited! Looking forward to exploring with a new map and markers. Exploration here I come.
Biggest grain of salt taken, but it really does feel like 2024 is going to bring a lot of change to our silly little space game! Informative as always, thank you!
9:00 random nitpick but, i find the effects of bullets hitting a ship to be very odd. They seem to ocupy the same amount of screen real estate no matter the zoom level, to the point were the sparks from shots hitting that hammerhead become bigger than the ship itself when zoomed out all the way
Whats crazy is he has video and proof of concept for everything! It's just a matter of mashing it together. Hopefully, it stays together like puzzle pieces to show a beautiful picture rather than tape and glue to be a mess. Time will tell. Its CIGs year to show rather than tell. Lets thank Canada for kicking CIG in the pants 👖 👏 😅
I found out in August that u could actually play it. I had gone to their website a few times before in 2022 and couldnt figure out how to buy it bc SQ42 was branded all over the place as unreleased
the expectations CIG has set... That is hilarious! 12 or 13 Years, depending when you start to count... Just this Year, there are things dragging more than projected...
You've put a huge makeup in Master's Mode in this. I still fathom to understand how a game with so much realism and life simulation decides to shrug down flying to an arcade DPS shooter, with slow Star Fighters and gargantuan Ships that turn on a dime.
Yes. You are purposely mixing up Navigation and Combat in an attempt to dissuade how Master's Mode turns a skill oriented gameplay into an arcadey DPS shooter. Makeup Navigating -> Starmap Master's Mode -> combat
something id like to see.....any....news on: Escape Systems. Yes some fighters have ejection seats, but using them anywhere other than zero-g is basically just "giving you a few moments to log out before you hit the ground". Id love to get ANY sort of news on proper ejection systems with parachutes (or para-Beams, go beam Citizen!), as well as gettting news on the various escape Pods that are currently modeled, but entirely nonfunctional
Regarding manual loading I really would like to know how the cargo boxes will spawn with the freight elevator. Will it be spawned according to the ship in hangar or do we have to choose the sizes? Didn't see or hear anything regarding this.
While I'm not much of a FPS player myself, I am curious to see how weapon and tool maintenance will actually work. CIG has shown we can expect weapon malfunctions if we don't maintain our gear but not _how_ we'll be maintaining FPS weapons and tools. Will we get a detailed cleaning mechanic or is it more of a one-click "clean/fix weapons" type of deal at a kiosk or console? Time will tell.
Thank you for making this video on things to come. I am having a issue with unloading the Hull C. You can buy and load the Hull C with different items at once but when you whant to sell the full cargo you have to go to invers process for each different product. Will this be corrected in a way that you will be able to sell the full content at once?
It's already changing. 3.22/a is pretty playable and stable. Been playing non-stop for three weeks already. I'm freaking impressed by the game! I think most of these changes you talked about will drop on 4.0. Star Citizen will be a complete different game than what it is now. Version 3.23 will be for server meshing testing and some other small features and improvements.
The road to something is mostly more beautiful and exciting then the destination itself. Also yesterday i had my best experience performance wise since xmas, it was truely amazing. This game has to potential to erase every competition it may have even with the features implemented right now. While some of you might not have noticed yet, there are back great trading oppurtunities for traders.
Same here, granted those were referring to things like in-game ship purchase, object container streaming, salvage gameplay, PES, and various other features. These changes are touching on much different things, they also look more like a functioning game.
To hype ... or not to hype. As one of the folks who advocated for atmospheric flight to be added to the game, will it be any good? *nervously chewing fingernails*. And ... can we have a switch to turn off the lateral thrusters and separately power off the main thrusters? I really, *really*, want to get good at gliding a Tali in to target with next to no emissions ... ;p)
I don’t mind bugs in games or small problems but that’s just me . The biggest issue I have with accessibility playing star citizen is the server going down to 3 fps . And what it’s missing for casuals is content that directs them and gives the small bit sized content that can get done within 1-2 hours . This also means they need a type of end game and getting bigger ships should not be the end game think warframe where getting frames is like getting weapons it’s not the end game. Also for casuals if they wanna play with a friend then it should not take 30 min just to get to them that’s insane it’s a mmo and the average person does not want it to take 30 min to just start playing with a friend when that’s about 1/2 to 1/4 of there total game time per day. I’d also like to see better wipe cycles. If you know it’s every 6 months with big updates like tarkov they will see heavy load on the servers that would be good for their testing. And give players enough time to grind for items and test the economy Over 6 months .
Well we can't have seen anything from this video, the first update is in March! But we have seen some updates from CitizenCon enter the game already, so they're doing better than before.
All the new addons about this and that is interesting and all... But i wonder if anyone would even bother to smooth out/fix what already there though.... For example the simplest starter missions like them box missions?
The box missions are being replaced by this new cargo system. That's partly why they haven't been fixed. Generally things are cued to be replaced, so they triage whether it's worth the time to fix it if they are just going to replace it with the final model later.
In my experience over the last 10 years. What they could do and what they say they will do is never the same as what they do. Now lets all go buy a new ship.
Great videos Tomato! But Star Citizens gotta start pulling through here. I'm sick of the "this will be a good year" videos or "game changer". I wanna start seeing stuff from CIG, no more talk.
They've been delivering stuff! Last year we got the cargo refactor, 4 new mission types, persistence, the hull scraping, removable components, and the Gen 12 renderer. It's not everything we want, but from what I'm seeing, they are delivering on features that HAVE changed the game for a lot of people. That being said, totally get the hesitancy on trusting THIS just yet lol
Absolutely amen to all this! Until we vote for policy not people who then get a blank check to do whatever they want we won't live in a true democracy.
I hadn't played since pre-3.0 - There was nothing to do, it lagged like hell, and was just a mess to interact with anything. I started back up on Christmas, and have yet to put it down. It's playable. It's buggy, but there's a game here now. It's kind of surreal.
Great video, not a mention of stability. The biggest issue in the game and its not even close. Not an hour goes by on public chat without it being mentioned half a dozen times.
This video is specifically looking at probable features coming this year. "Stability" is not deemed probable imo, and I don't want to get people's hopes up if server meshing or the Vulcan API slip.
@@SpaceTomato so this is just opinion from me here, but I, as someone that plays alot of the shooter experience in SC, the higher TTK has given more emphasis on the movement and usage of medpens in firefights, an example of this is Warzone, where you see higher level players jumping around, hitting their stims to shrug of damage, that's what SC FPS is comparable to currently and I think that's a step in the wrong direction, but it can be salvaged.
