Took an 8,000 mile road trip in my freshly rebuilt 1982 Volvo 240 to the NAB Show in Las Vegas, covering 22 US States and 1 Canadian Province.
On the day of the Solar Eclipse, I drove from Germantown, TN to Shawnee, OK taking many back roads to avoid possible traffic, covering 600 miles.
I managed to reach the path of totality just in time for the start of the eclipse.
Pulling over at the Assembly of God parking lot in Poyen, Arkansas, I quickly setup my Canon 1DX iii with a 70-200 f/4 and 2x iii extender for the timelapse and a Canon C200 with 18-80 CN-E for video coverage.
As totality approached, more families arrived to the parking lot, setting up telescopes and tailgating for the event.
There was some scattered cloud coverage at the start and at the end of the eclipse, but it cleared up for totality.
During the total eclipse of the Sun, it got dark, but more like dusk rather than nighttime.
What I found interesting was how everything on the ground looked like it had the saturation level turned all the way down with a slight magenta hue.
Totality in Poyen was somewhere around 1.5 minutes in length.
Music in the video is Gustav Holst's, "Mars" performed by the United States Air Force Band.
