The popularity of 4 door long wheelbase limousine trucks with more technology and luxury for the wanna-bee off roaders is getting beyond ridiculous. With the right rig, you can enjoy challenges and not worry about damaging your expensive toy with a crew of spotters surrounding you.

A lot of you guys romanticize old vehicles but if you drove a 40+ year old suv or truck for a week you’d realize how much it sucks and that no one wants to be uncomfortable on their daily drives regardless of how cool they look. Lol manufacturers produce what we demand as a whole.

I went from an off road capable Tacoma to a Tundra Princess. The paint job alone was $1k, Nevermind it was 20k+ more than the Taco. It’s ridiculous to me people are testing 70k luxury trucks off road. They’re way too big and expensive for this hobby. Get a Jeep or a Tacoma which is a lot cheaper and designed for this stuff.

@@warriorwarrior6999I’ve had both and I can’t fathom taking my Tundra off road. It’s $60k+ and massive. Also the front chin clearance is terrible. While I really like this truck, it is definitely not on par for off-roading with the likes of the 1500 AT4X, ZR2, TRX, Raptor, or Powerwagon. Approach and departure angles really hold this truck back. Bumpers as well. I think the next update on this truck from the factory definitely needs to be front and rear bumpers (with tow hooks!). This truck is so Toyota. It's not class leading in anything, but does a bunch of things really well and is reliable (I guess we'll see as they accumulate more miles) to boot.

Actually they’re right in line with what the big change for their full size barges. They’re on par again with the options except for 1 thing. You can’t get a V-8 on the tundra anymore. I believe you can with Fords and GMs full sized trucks. I think ford’s FX4 package is nothing but some El Rancho shocks and a few extra skid plates. GM’s high end off roaders are using parts from 3rd party supplier AEV. At the end of the day a TRD off road tundra is far more capable then most people who buy one will ever put it through

The ZR2 isn't far from that price point. It's a give-and-take scenario, ZR2 has more ground clearance but tows way less and has less HP and Torque for towing. So the ZR2 is pretty singular in its usage, whereas with the Tundra you can get bigger tires, a lift, and still be tow king over the Chevy.

Cringed. David is always being forced to do the hard manual labor. What's with that? Taking the falls. Getting grungiest. It's nice he is willing to help, but it would be nice if others would help him out there on that course. As for the truck, even I would not have run it back there knowing what you know, knowing what we all have seen. Having to keep modifying that course to accommodate NEW rigs that nobody wants scratched and dented does not make sense to me. Use the CUV course for the NEW rigs to play in. Leave the back part for your guests that want a challenge.

Doesn't seem like that hard of a test considering you are scared to death over a small inconvenience. The truck would have been fine with that drop if you just powered out of it. If you want to really test the durability and off road capability you gotta drive it how everyone else would. Not 1mph creeping over everything. I understand that it's not your truck but you should get some more leeway when you get a truck for an off-road type review.

This shouldn’t surprise you but I drive a Toyota and I worked at a ford dealership a dodge dealership and a Chevy dealership over the last few years. Good to see some of the limits of the factory version. I'm looking to buy something (F150, Z71, Tacoma, Ranger, Tundra?) and I think I will just run it where I go, and if I damage bumpers then I will consider replacing them with aftermarket off road gear. :) Or maybe I should just try to get David's truck for off-road and a nice Avalon for the highway...

I suspect that look Adrea gave to the can we take your truck question, meant NO. Personally I think I would be very reluctant to take a borrowed 70K vehicle on anything that rough. My off road testing of something that expensive plus borrowed would probably lean abit toward the somewhat safe/mild side.

Surely this is a joke. This truck has as much ground clearance as my old Chrysler Newport. The trucks (work or otherwise) of that period had so much more ground clearance and they didn’t weigh 3 tons.

Well, at least it's a neat looking truck..Who the hell is going to take an 80k truck off road, that requires a full spotter team just to avoid damaging it. Good lord.

I don't like filling the obstacles with wood. It is a band aid and the logs are too slick when they get wet. Should be filling them with large rocks so you'll at least have some traction.

Toyota really needs to give you a Tundra with their 3" lift. This Truck is 89K msrp in Canada.

@@BPJac these days, even with a 3,000 mile trip ahead of me, the ~30 year old gm truck appeals to me more than that new tundra, especially if I’m paying for the truck. There is NO WAY I’m paying that kind of $$$ for a 1/2 ton truck. I’d much rather pay $20k for a clean 30ish year old truck vs the $50,60,70k+ on a new one.
