I recently found your channel, because I’m considering picking up a Speed Twin and of course, I’m researching the heck out of the bikes. I love your reviews! Problem is - I’m a bit torn between the 900 and 1200. I visited my local dealer and both bikes feel amazing. I’m just getting back into riding after a ~decade of not riding (moved to a big, congested city and riding here sucked , but now I live on the edge of town, right near a bunch of nice, scenic rides). For the last couple months I’ve been riding a rebel 500 and almost right after I bought it, I realized … I’m gonna need a bigger boat 😂. The 900 seems pretty damn perfect, starts at a lower price , and leaves me quite a bit of room to accessorize with my budget (18k max) - I’ll likely go for the Fox shocks, bar end mirrors, hand warmers, adjustable levers for my tiny hands on my 5’6” frame, luggage, etc. I don’t think I’d be able to deck out a 1200 nearly as much - at least not without going over my budget with out-the-door prices. I almost feel set on the 900, but if you were going to purchase one of these and planned to mostly ride around town, do weekend rides in minor hills and smaller mountains, but also an occasional 300mile trip to the coast - would you go with the 900 or 1200? I thank you very much for the comment and question. Going to either model from the Rebel 500 is a nice step up and based on what your are planning to use it for either bike would be good in those situations. The 900 has roughly 43% more bhp and 85% for torque than you are currently getting out of the Rebel so will feel really torquey and powerful. The 1200 is more than 100% in bhp and 92% more in torque. Suspension is a little better on the 900 and a lot better with the 1200. Seat Height would be the biggest difference from the Rebel but as you indicated you have tried both and you feel comfortable on them so that would be a mute point. Adding roughly 50lbs from the Rebel 500 for both so that wouldn't be a factor. While yes I'm sure you can tell I love the Speed Twin 1200, you are correct you would be able to deck out the 900 and have a little left over and would be able to do all the things you are thinking about and I'm sure you would have a wonderful time on it. Now if you can find a leftover new 1200 for around 10k which I have seen then I would just get the 1200 Hope that helps a little and I am very thankful for your kind words and for you taking the time to watch. @@MotorcycleDemoRiders awesome, thank you so much for your insight - I really appreciate it! As luck would have it, I DID find a 2023 1200 for 10k new at a local dealer - only problem is it’s my absolute least favorite color. If I can get over that hurdle, I’ll probably pick it up, lol.

@@MotorcycleDemoRiders it’s the bright , hot-rod-looking red (I’d be fine if it was the deeper “carnival” red). But it’s a 3k savings so, trying to rationalize that in my head.

Do you have to use high octane fuel because of the high compression???

Yes. The minimum rated fuel in the manual is 91 octane or 95 RON. While it isn't necessary I always run 93 if possible, on all my bikes. Nobody wants to deal with premature detonation. That said in a pinch it 87 would get you home without an issue but I wouldn't want to use less than the minimum unless I had no other option.
