Thank you for your comment and very good points. A few year old Golf R or this black edition (in a few years) I would have a MK8 Golf R personally. It is such a fun car and with DCC on 18" wheels, although firmer than the black edition, it is compliant enough for the UK in my experience. I did like the extra economy and how you can use all the 190ps in this black edition along with the 4Motion so it does have its plus points. It is also very exclusive as there will be a fraction of the 2.0 Litre 4Motion black editions on the road in MK8 form over the MK8 R which has been out since 2021 and sold in strong numbers. All cars are very expensive these days and that would be the big trump card for this black edition over a MK8 R. Spec for Spec this does work out at a good price like for like along with the running cost improvements as you have said. The GTI is also up there as it has so many positives. In truth you cannot go wrong with all three but if I had to choose one today I would choose the MK8 R 👍

I believe it is something for the UK but I am not 100% sure. I had not heard of it either so it was under the radar for me too 🤔

Yes I hope they do make the 4Motion and black edition staying on the MK8.5 models. Perhaps this is VW testing the waters a little with it 🤔

I've heard you might be able to get the next Cupra Leon with the 4WD now in which case it makes it very appealing. If you are talking about the Cupra 280/290 then that car is more on par with a GTI Clubsport than this. I think for day to day I would rather have the Black Edition overall but I will have to try the new Cupra (which I hopefully will do this month) to have a true verdict 👍

Cupra Leon Estate has 4 wheel drive. Love my Cupra Leon 300

I believe it is the EA888 but not the same as the S3 as that has more beefed up internals and a bigger turbo producing the extra power. It is very similar to the current generation Polo GTI which has the exact same amount of torque as this 2.0 Litre Black Edition but with slightly more power at 204ps. However, with the 4Motion in this black edition it feels quicker to me. Cool little Q car this one 👍

I had a new model polo gti with more power (and a higher power to weight ratio) and even in sport mode it changed-up into seventh gear at a really low speed/far too soon and ran out of 'puff'. I got rid of the bloody thing. With a 6sp manual gearbox it would have been a hoot though.....shame.
