2025 Chevrolet Tahoe & Suburban Quick Review | Chevy's Biggest Got Better

Chevy's changes for 2025 aren't as drastic as the Ford's tweaks to the Expedition, but they are still a big deal. On the outside, we get more expressive headlights and tail lights, bigger wheel options (because BIGGER is always better?), and some subtle tweaks to the bumpers. Under the hood, the main change is to the diesel engine: it's GM's revised 3.0L inline-6 turbodiesel rated for 305 HP and 495 lb-ft and you can now get it in the off-road Z71 trim. GM says it took a while for them to re-work the cooling systems in order to shoehorn the long engine in the Z71 and still have the tow hooks you'd expect.
Don't want an oil burner? There's still the same 5.3L V8 or 6.2L V8 as before.
On the inside the big change is to the dashboard where we find a more modern design and MASSIVE screens. The standard center screen is a nearly 18-inch touchscreen while the instrument cluster is handled by an 11-inch LCD. The combined screen real estate is less than we find in the "new" Expedition, but the touchscreen portion is significantly bigger so if you're a fan of CarPlay, Android Auto, or just expansive Google maps, you'll likely prefer the Chevy system. It's also worth noting: the Chevy can have a HUD while the Expedition's 24-inch driver screen takes the place of navigation, HUD and cluster all-in-one.
Bottom line: The Chevy's interior and demeanor is now the truckiest in the segment. Ford went in a more "CUV" like direction with the Expedition and the Wagoneer has always been more "Super-sized Grand Cherokee" than "SUV RAM".
What do you think? Based on looks alone, would you get this or the updated Ford?

Oops. We had a weird export issue with Premiere. It's fixed now!

The fact they kept physical controls for the A/C and steering wheel automatically give this a W over the new Expedition.

Plus they are a lot better looking especially the interior.

There's a good mix of options and sometimes dual controls so everyone should find a happy medium. And that all happens without things feeling too clustered. -Travis

@@AAutoBuyersGuide agreed. I like the redundant controls because sometimes the screens turn off or glitch out and then you have no backups.

Why do manufacturers think we like divorced headlights? Suburbans aren't trying to be areodynamic. You'd think buyers of these SUVs are older, and want traditional styling.

Wish it had a better sound system, especially in the High Country.

GM needs to do something about its powertrains. The 5.3 and 6.2 are antiquated. The former is underpowered, while the latter has poor fuel economy. At least make them hybrids or something, for a power and mpg bump.

The 3.0l Duramax is the clear golden child of these engine options. -Travis

A 5.3 hybrid would be nice, but the durmax is a good option. You can get 27+ mpg

I've had nothing but problems with turbocharged vehicles... With the exception of turbo diesels. I'm just happy that we still have some naturally aspirated engine options out there

They get close but no cigar. Center screen has all of the negatives of the other makes, bs top side and bottom bar, all unnecessarily since it still has physical controls. Then entire bottom bar is pointless, put the temperature in the dials like Chevy already has done, top bar is also pointless, I put wireless carplay on my old Chevy and I haven't seen anything else for months. This is a screen, meaning it can be both ways, full screen or in a window. If kia can figure it out so can Chevy

like the Z71 just wish it had a 2 row option more off road ,utilitarian ,as we dont need a 3 row luxury family school bus for just 2 ,I like cargo space over 7' in the tahoe and diesel opt.. ditch lot of the luxury car bits = more payload and towing

The added cargo room wouldn't be majorly increased by removing the third row, the packaging is already well managed. -Travis
