could it be that the charger was limited? because from the start to the end it was only able to deliver a maximum of 199A, usually 400v packs use more A to achieve charging power. if this happens again, could you test it on a charger that can provide more amps?
Yes, it is precisely that. It was due to the charger, not the car and I’ve seen plenty of times getting much faster speed than this and also the same way around with other cars. I had much slower charging speed here and there as well. I did not foresee the result would yield such confusion to my viewers. I shall and will find the best and fastest charging speed each platform is capable of for my future reviews. Thanks for sharing!
Hello CarSceneKorea! I just preordered a Kia EV3 from a dealership because of you! Thank you for your very informative and insightful videos! Many thanks from Denmark! :)
Really looking forward to when they are available on the used market for a reasonable price here in German in a few years. The EV3 (imo) is one of the best compact cars besides the new ID.3 (which sadly is quite a bit more expensive).
It would be interesting to get some more charging tests done on this platform. A bit weird that the speed increased at 60% from where it was just over 10%, usually you see the peak speed low in the pack and then it throttles down from about 50% and usually pretty slow by 80% that’s not true of all 400V EVs (Fat etron for example) but is for most.
definetely looks like refreshed Niro EV. As the DC fast charging speeds looks a lot like the one of Niro EV which is quiet slow! With my 2023 Niro EV at least on a good day I reach 80-85kW

I can choose between ev3, ev6 and polestar or Volvo ec40: I can’t choose needing longest range, largest volume an modern look. Tree kids needed in back… Polstar was so quite, but polstar has a bumb behind….
A bit messy, horry with editing ?. if the charging speed is that bad what is the point of using battery warming anyways. hopefully someone can post the actual charging curve with 400V charger which does not limit the usable amps.
I really want to see a real life comparison between EV3 and Niro EV! Rumors has it that Kia will discontinue the Niro EV. Any news on what Kia wants to do with the Niro EV?
Hi CarSceneKorea, I have a quick question about the upcoming launch of the new Kia Tasman. Will they be selling them in Korea as well? I've only heard about the overseas markets. Either way, I'd love to see you do a review of one if you can get your hands on one. ^^
I have no inside information on Tasman and even when I do, I don't share nor go over any rumors. I deliver official news from each manufacturer and you know I'll be there when Tasman hits the Korean soil :)
@@CarSceneKorea too bad. It would be nice compare costs to a gasoline or diesel powered car for the same trip. Maybe next time. That you for the detailed reviews.
@@CarSceneKorea Thank you so much, DK! You are the best! I only asked because in other markets, like the US and UK, some IONIQ 5s were only equipped with HDA1 for certain model years and trim levels because of parts shortages...at least that's what I read. I even read that the top trim level Limited For example, the 2022 SE trims only came with HDA1 in the US, while the SEL and Limited had HDA2. So, I'm glad all domestic cars only had HDA2. I was worried that a used IONIQ 5 wouldn't have HDA2.
Thank you so much for all the information. I'm currently considering the KIA EV3 after trying out the BYD Atto 3, which I found decent, but I think the KIA offers more overall value for a slightly higher price. I live in Greece and drive around 22,000 km (13,670 miles) annually, so I'm leaning towards the standard range model. I cover less than 450 km per week. Aside from my Ford Fiesta (LPG) I am currently also using a micro car, charging it with 1.5kw power at home. I feel like the standard range should be enough for my needs. For those who’ve gone with the standard range, do you find it sufficient for similar driving patterns? I would highly appreciate your thoughts on this!
That is approximately 430km per week, so if you can plug the car every couple days, it should be more than enough so long as you don’t do much long distance drives. If you have a charger at home and the car is a daily commuter car, I’d say any latest EV in the market just works great :) You will love EV3, I assure you. I say it is one of the best EVs from Hyundai Motor Group thus far.
@@CarSceneKorea thank you for your feedback. I only do long distance drives on vacation. I guess 58kwh will be sufficient. Temperature rarely falls under 5c here
I’m a bit confused if you got the 373km/ 410km range out of a 80% or a 100% battery charge. At 7:07, it seems the trip starts at 0.0km with 79% battery. Could you clarify this, please? 🙂
I was confused as well, but found out during the edit that it is from 100% indeed. It is due to 90% of the drive being fast highway driving + uphill + weather, etc. It is nearly the worst case scenario for any EVs and me driving the car. I never ever got the suggested driving range, fuel efficiency on my test drives. Test driving cars after all😂
As far as i can see, it definitely has the exactly same headlights as the EV9, so why aren't they Matrix capable? Do you think there will be an Update availabev in the future, because i have the feeling the Matrix capability is just software locked! One of It's main compettitors the Skoda Elroq has Matrix, so KIA should think twice about their decision! Why did charging take so painfully long? The KIA EV3 is advertised wit 31 Minutes from 10-80% here in Germany! Was it a slow charging station? Taking 18 minutes longer than advertised isn't a small difference !!!
Wonder if it is possible to change the settings in the route planning to lower SOC at charger. Makes little sense for me when it plans for 35-40% at charger. Should be able to set to 15-25%
You prove exactly why EVs are such a hard sell here in the states. You literally can cross your country with 75-80% battery....i cant even get 1/2 the way out of Texas on a full charge. Then there's the issues of finding chargers in "dead zones" through out the massive land scap of TX....i do dig the look of the EV3
But let's be honest here - how many Americans drive that much on a daily basis that an EV with +300 miles of range wouldn't be able to cover?? And if you drive a lot you would probably be better off with a home charger.
130kwh charging speed promised Kia and watching your video, the car from 9 to 80 did just make max 74kwh charging speed, I am very disappointed. I was waiting for this car but seeing this disappointing charging speed, I need to reconsider. I love Kia very much but I can't lose time of my life standing at a charging station waiting.
The new Elroq 85, the Xpeng G6 and this are the best cars to buy now in terms of suvs which are not the most sustainable cars. The problem is the absolutely dependence on coal Korea continues to peddle and to greenwash to consumers. So basically producing a very very good product in terms of efficiency but defeating the whole purpose in the end. The same for the G6 but China is already the king in green energy transition. The Elroq is a product produced with 90% renewable energy, still many other aspects like all other brands remain. Tesla not even worth talking about it
we got the Elroq priceces already and it costs more and has less feature for the money. also the lower elroq has really poor range but perhaps people just dont care...
@@jkajolin if you compare the EV3 in earth edition and the big battery with an comparable Elroq based on discounts offered today, the price in Germany is more or less the same.
Even powering them on a grid mix of mostly coal these are still better for the environment including the emissions from producing the vehicle, as proven in numerous studies, see the US EPA's "Electric Vehicle Myths" page for some good information on this.
Teslas are also on 400 V system but can charge at 250kW instead of just 75kW. That’s charging speed is disappointing. Why the big difference? Great content, I never really considered Kia; but this EVs are really nice for me to consider getting one.
I think it's a charging station issue. Anyone who's actually owned an EV knows that charging stations are generally slower when there are a lot of other cars at the same time. 250kW is only possible in the best conditions, and Tesla's real-world charging speed is 70-90kW.
@@ibz.a Most 200kW chargers in korea, their specs are 1000Vdc × 200A, which means that 400V cars can charge at only 80kW at most, limited speed due to insufficient amphere. ev3's Amphere capability is about 300A or somewhat more(I've saw 130kW at best). so if you plug the charger capable of more than 300A, it will charge at over 120kW speed.
@@hwanju94 yeah but this is a new car and it charges like nissan leaf gen 1 from 2012. I think It is the same charging like BYD Dolphin has and owners also says it is quite slow.
According to specs, the EV3 only has 128 kW for the bigger battery variant. But the EV3 is a budget car in the sub-compact genre. It's probably making tradeoffs to lower prices. The Niro EV only gets 100 kW charging too. It's competing with the likes of the Bolt, Kona, and Leaf rather than the faster charging competition.
Appreciate your efforts but what we need was an alone driving situation and a charging experience of true 400V station. Having a fully loaded car doesn't give you chance to compare with the other cars. This is not a bad scenario by the way.
Indeed. I tried to find one, but just couldn’t with the EV3. I didn’t think that this many people would blame it on the EV3 not the charger😭 I will learn from this and come up with precisely what this comment said.
Please try to be more impartial in your review, otherwise you will never gain credibility, Kia ev3 is an interesting car, but it needs to be analyzed in a completely different way.
There are many other videos on EV3 on my channel where I did precisely that. I know not everyone watches all my videos, so I would appreciate it if you take the time to check those out as well.
NVH; the noise work of EV3 is pretty nice, not the best one, but worst either with the efficiency. Charging speed has to do with the charger not the car.
