I'm so sick of hearing people talk about how this truck is "generic" or that it's a "missed opportunity" that it isn't "unique" enough. RAM is making this truck for us truck people, not for you EV sports car people. Yes its electric but it's made to be a pickup truck. RAM knows who buys their pickups and it's not the eco-conscience, sci-fi dweebs that think driving an EV is saving the planet. This vehicle was made for pickup truck drivers. I have been driving RAM trucks for most of my life and I have to say I love this new one. It's exactly what we want, a pickup truck that is electric, that's it! Simple. That's exactly what we want.
100% agree. That's why Tesla did so well with Model S, they were the first EV manufacturer who made a car that was electric, instead of making something "futuristic" and "unique" which really just meant ugly. That's also where they will fail with Cybertruck, sure lots of people will buy one (if it ever makes it to market) but far more people will want to just buy a truck, that happens to be electric.
Ford lightning does not start in mid 50s anymore. With the latest price bump, the base PRO trim starts almost at $60k. Having said that, if this base model starts around $60k, and really meets the 350 miles range mark, its still a better deal. I am putting my stakes on both these, plus Avalanche EV ... fingers crossed ..
@@cesarpac3723dealers create those shortages themselves. They have parking lots full of trucks in turn artificially keeping prices high. Screw dealers in the p**sy.
I like that it just looks like a truck. my biggest complaint with EV cars and trucks is they make them "standout", I like that it blends in and no one can tell it's a EV vehicle
You do great reviews. Your words flow like water from a tap. I bought the Lightning Pro on your recommendation. Love the truck and price. Keep up the good work. 👍
Will this succeed what Ford couldn’t do? I hope so cause the Ford Lightning jacked up the price, making it impossible for us average consumer to purchase.
am waiting for the realease of this truck, i need to buy it and give it a lift due to the bad roads in Nigeria. Its very luxurious. I love the executive feel of the interior.
Ram has done an excellent job keeping its EV Ram pickup truck traditional which I like … nothing crazy or out of the ordinary because I didn’t like the Honda Ridgeline like Ram concept. This is a real truck just an EV. Good job, Ram!
I’m curious if i wont to install bed cap on the truck bed . Haw i can . when the side truck open the boxes . This truck is designed to stay open bed with not cover
Google rambox tonneau cover. There are plenty of options. The rambox is not new for this version, Ram's been doing them for a few years now on their gas pickups.
Ram had already said the concept they released is what it will eventually look like in the future…not what the 25 will look like LOL… it keeps being said, they didn’t bring this and didn’t do that from the concept
Great review. I've had a Ram 1500 for the last 10 years and I'm anxiously awaiting availability and pricing on these for my next purchase. I personally like how they're carrying over the more traditional look. Some of the 'unique' designs coming on market these days are a little too unique in most cases, especially for the majority of individuals in the pickup segment. Fingers crossed I don't have to sell an organ to buy one in a few years.
I own a ev6 with only a 77kw battery. It is on the emp platform with 800v charging capabilities. Even at a 350kw fast charger it still takes an hour to fully charge. This beast will take 5 hours to charge at a fast charger with that massive top tier 200+ kw battery pack.
@@YTYTYTY7 that’s what they say under optimal conditions 18 mins for a 77kw battery to charge from 10% -80%. Real world is more like 30 mins. I’ve never had a 350kw fast charger go past 230kw of power being delivered.
This would make an excellent case for finding a way to install a 240v charger at home to just plug it there instead of waiting to completely drain. For road trips is going to require extra planning and loads of luck to find those 350kw chargers.
sure, if you charge to 100% it will take an hour (or more), but if you're smart about it you won't do that. charge to 80% and continue your trip. It will take under half an hour. For this truck, it will probably take 45 mins to get to 80%. Keep in mind that bigger batteries can charge faster and hold that higher rate for longer without ramping down.
I don't mind the looks of this truck. After hearing all of the range anxiety that the Ford lighting gets due to the towing. I just don't trust the towing. I myself have a 2019 Ram Limited w/etorque. Beautiful truck though.
The conventional look is a plus it is not a detriment. The vast majority of buyers in this segment don't want a fast and furious vehicle. They want a truck that looks like a truck
I for one am NOT dissapointed that this model looks more like a regular truck than the one form Vegas. I think the RAM people as well as Ford are smart to make them look this way rather than the ridiculous contraptions like the Silverado with those fins. I also have no desire for everyone around me to be staring at this thing.
I am little skeptical about the higher range v/s bigger battery equation. Bigger battery does not always equals to proportionally higher range. They need to consider the weight of the bigger batteries as well as the energy and time needed to charge those. They might be able to reduce time with 350kwh architecture, but what about the energy? Its still gonna need that ~120kwh + energy everytime you charge from 10-80% ...
If the base work truck model starts anywhere below $60k, they'll destroy the Ford Lightning (since it would have a standard range of ~350 miles). Good job to RAM!
My hope is that the show truck was not representative of the final version on that, I can't imagine that would get past any real world testing, I'm not waiting that long to load my groceries!
I don't see anything discernibly 'Klipsch' except for the name (which the host couldn't pronounce). There's a nod toward horn tweeters in the shape of the A-pillar tweeter bezel, but they look like ordinary domes to me, not horns. I guarantee whatever's behind those other speaker grilles are your basic dual-cone, paper-and-foam speakers.
@@DrRyan82994 yes, thank you for doing the actual math. BEV's, at least for now, should relegated to smaller sized vehicles until the next big leap in battery tech.
The problem with the larger EVs are the issue of weight effecting efficiency and use case. Meaning if I want an electric vehicle that is less aerodynamic and larger than a sedan to have the same range as a sedan, then I need to give it a larger battery pack. The problem with a larger battery pack is the increased vehicle weight. When you significantly increase the weight of a vehicle you run into the issue of it being too heavy for most roads and bridges. Then in the USA their is the issue of vehicle weight being tied to specific types of driver licenses and insurance types.
I'm surprised RAM doesn't include a power steering wheel on a truck of this level. This is the second time RAM has released a flagship truck with a manual adjustable steering wheel. The seats look incredible, but I couldn't tell if one of those 24-ways adjustments was for thigh support. Those thing matter for us 6+ guys with long femurs. Please tell me there's a way to turn off the gaudy lighted logo?
If the base battery can consistently get 300 miles of normal driving, they won't be able to build them fast enough. And 500 mile range for the extended battery sounds like a month worth of suburban driving. Now all they gotta do is keep the stealerships from dropping a 40k markup on top of MSRP.
Yep. Seems like every dealership these days are adding "market adjustment " to their vehicles. I will not pay a dime over msrp. Ive passed on about 30 vehicles lately due to Mark up prices. If everyone not give in to their bs they'd stop this nonsense. Unfortunately there are suckers out there.
@@Transit_my-waynot all dealers are like that. I work at a Jeep dealer and we just sold the last hellcat red eye that we’ll ever get our hands on for under MSRP
@@SuperGangste that's great. It seems that those honest dealers are few and far between. I have been shopping for months for a transit van and all that I've contacted so far have a "market adjustment " added to price. Bunch of crooks. I refuse to pay any mark ups based on principle. I'm very patient.
@@Transit_my-way stay patient, when the market collapses (inflation will find its limits soon) make sure to stick it to them and buy outright so they get no interest
Without pricing it's hard to tell, but based on the numbers they've shown so far, if they can keep the price within 10k of the lightning Ford should be pretty scared!
Based on what? The numbers they give for battery size, drag coefficient, and range all match up and make sense for that range. So what do you think you know that their engineers who have been doing real world testing don't?
I like it but with batteries that large this thing is going to have a crazy weight... probably heavier than the Hummer EV. Heavier weight EVs are terrible for tires, and you'll have to replace tires far more frequently which will be pricey.
People seem to like the concept vehicle better. I personally don’t like it. I think EVs being a tough sell right now making a vehicle that isn’t much different than the ICE version is a smart choice and likely to get the most buyers currently. I don’t believe the concept would have sold as many units. Too futuristic too soon. Look at the lighting. Not that much different than the ICE F-150.
What's the relevance to this video? You're responding to a review of a future electric vehicle from one brand to ask about 2 current gasoline vehicles by different manufacturers in a different market segment?
Yeeeeah…NO. I think them going over the top with the whole futuristic thing would piss a lot of us Ram owners off. I want my Ram to still look like a Ram which is why I’m willing to buy the electric version. If I wanna drive some ugly electric vehicle I will buy a “Tesla truck”.
I don't mind the exterior here, but I definitely agree it could be better. I can definitely see the tradeoffs on the exterior. They wanted a traditional look, but also had to ditch some of the traditional aggressiveness of the gas version for the sake of aerodynamics. It's a shame really as I think Stellantis in general is really good at making good looking vehicles. This ones' not "bad" it just doesn't stand out.
@@Green__one totally agree; I cancelled my order and will wait out the ev truck situation. Interest rates are pretty high and I’d rather save my money for a good deal.
