Also kudos to Rivian for keeping prices sky high for the entire run of R1s while Tesla has lowered prices substantially. Additional kudos to Rivian for also developing the Supercharger network and releasing new vehicle models. Oh wait, that's also Tesla.

With all respect to Rivian as I am a fan and about to pick one up next week, these models were originally announced with production intent in 2018, so more like 5-6 years. Also, wouldn't call this an overhaul, as they look almost identical as the original. Tesla makes similar iterative changes but without the press or fanfare. Compare a 2024 Model S/X with one in 2018 and you'll find substantial changes on the interior and internally.

Are you joking? They are hideous! Too tall, ugly LED lighting, and zero functionality as a work truck! They look soft and weak, like a fat guy ordering a second scoop of ice cream. To be beautiful, the form would follow the function. But it's only function is to be a grocery getter, so to be beautiful it should look more appropriate to it's tasks. A lambo or a bugatti is beautiful because it is designed to go fast. That's it's only job, so its form matches its function. Same as a Mack or a Pierce fire truck. Beautiful machines because they look and perform the job they are supposed to do. You know what pickups are beautiful? A Toyota Hilux diesel from the 80s. It's total perfection. Indestructible. Same with a 1960s F600 from Ford. Oh, or an early 2000s Chevy with an 8.1l and a zf6. Those were real trucks, made for real work by people who knew what trucks are for. Rivians are like city boys who come to the county fair wearing their clean new hats and their dry cleaned Wranglers. Total posers.

@@theNerdandtheNurse yes if it can actually drive that far first, and I don’t like my range get shrunk 10% - 20% every single year or based on the temperature.

Nope, unfortunately, Rivian said "Starting 2025 Calendar year", so are they going to "refresh" again in 6 months?

The CCS port on the 2025 R1 models seem modular, meaning they would be able to swap them out to a NACS port easy in the future - for a price I’m assuming

Sadly it's exactly what consumers are asking for - at least when their wallets talk. Almost nobody is buying the base model of anything whether it be ICE or BEV or hybrid. While vehicles like the Mitsu Mirage existed nobody wanted to go for cheap to drive and insure and operate at the expense of having only 100HP. Same reason why GM killed the Bolt and Nissan will kill the Leaf (although Leaf really should have had a liquid cooling system by now). The consumers with too much money is what allowed Ford Raptors and high end Tundras to approach 100K.

@@Tokamak3.1415 Yes to all of that. They decontented affordable vehicles in such a way that you have to move up a tier if you wanted basic features. Then they said all cheap cars sold poorly and started killing them off. GM is the only hope now. The Trax is selling like hotcakes and it doesn't seem to be pure garbage. Will it be a fluke? I'm guessing yes. But, if it's the ice version of the next bolt that's promising.

@@TechAfterThoughts A large part of the bonus content that automakers throw in is mandated by the government. Backup sensors, pedestrian detection, AEB, and so forth. You would think with all this technology the fatalities would only have stay proportional to population and vehicle growth but it seems to be going up due to people viewing driving as a side activity to be done while text, updating their instagram, watching Tik Tok. I'm very much pro technology, but driver assistance aids are pointless when the driver is checked out to lunch. I used to AutoX when I was younger and loved driving. Now I abhor going out because I'm surrounded by cretins, I can't wait for autonomous driving to come along even it it means I lose control.

Great plan, paying those taxes again, you end up saving a few thousand dollars and what if the used car you buy has hidden issues

​@@vickykennel7414 Have you ever traded in a vehicle? Sales taxes are a wash because the new Lexus cost me 65,400 OTD so I paid 0 on sales tax. I still got the 7,500 EV tax credit last year, so if anything I made about 7k By just owning this car and driving it for 10,000 miles. Hidden issues you say? every car manufactured has hidden issues when new, that's why they come with a warranty. There is not such thing as a car that you buy and own for the first 3-5 years that doesn't present an problem or defect (issue)....

Paying 100k give me 1000hp I can get it else where for less …..
