Big mistake for the US to share hosting with Canada & Mexico. The organizers thought they will lose bidding (thanks to anti-Americanism), so they lumped neighbouring countries in the bid. Guess what? Only Morrocco was competing with the US,and we would have won it anyway. Now, let Canada and Mexico host their own national teams' group stage matches, then all he rest should be in the US.
@@sdot5389 The US is the top country in the world to be able to host the world cup by itself. how about next time it's in Germany they have it in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy instead?
It makes me happy to share the world cup with my neighbor countries. Anything to bring us a little closer. 🇲🇽🇺🇲🇨🇦. The three amigos. Cheers from America.
The format is already known (tweaks likely around travel). While Tyler may prove correct [16 groups, 16 cities; no need to travel], I think the original plan was for groups to play in cities as close to each other as feasible on the theory that travel has always been part of the WC process. Hopping multiple time zones, however, won't likely kick in til the later rounds. 16 groups of three means every team plays two games and every group will have three match days (that one team will sit out). The worst aspect of the expansion to 48, for me, is that the two teams playing Match Day 3 will know whether a draw gets them through while the other member of their group can do nothing to stave off elimination while watching the other two teams pass the ball back and forth for 90 minutes. Similarly, if A beats B, then C beats B, then the A-C match has no stakes (aside from bracket slots). Three team groups will yield more of these dead rubber matches than the four team groups did. Top two advance to the new, single-elimination round of 32. Thus, the Round of 16 will be each team's fourth game just as in the 32-team format. Later rounds staged entirely in the US. I believe the format will be bracketed so that Mexico (for sure) and Canada play in-country through at least the Round of 16 (four games).
@@johnmaster3748 the group stage will suck. We're gonna see a lot of questionable draws. I do like the extra KO round. But personally I would've preferred a two-stage tournament with the world's top-16 teams receiving a bye to the second stage, which would then be the current format.
Fun Fact the AZTECA STADIUM is where 2 of the best players of all time have won the world cup. PELE IN THE 70'(BRAZIL) AND MARADONA IN THE 86' (ARGENTINA).
Holy they announced it literally 2 hours ago and you made this video fast…. Really nice to have the World Cup in Vancouver, I watched this tournament since I was 6 y/o and its a gift to have it be announced for my city 🙏
Azteca has gone through lots of small changes over the past two decades and has gone from an old stadium with charm and great views to a mishmash of seating arrangements and odd choices. However, it is already scheduled to close down later this year for a complete renovation with big ambitions; I've seen plans that will transform it into something akin to SoFi Stadium.
The recent renovations from the 2010's were god awful. It looked terrible on TV and reduced the capacity from 95k to 87k. I remember when I was a kid one of the biggest sources of pride from the Azteca were that it was supposedly the "biggest stadium in the world" or at least among the top 3, now I doubt it makes the top 10. I'm curious to see what plans you're reffering to, i've seen some where they have very ambitious plans for the entire complex (shopping malls, hotels, pedestrians pace) but show nothing specific to the stadium itself, I hope they make some big changes because it's crumbling fast and is extremely outdated.
@@mariomelgarejotorres2318 I think they say that because they don't know yet what the renovations entail but it will be renovated at the end of the day wr just don't know in what fashion. Starting in 2023 America and Cruz Azul have to move out temporarily.
Some facts about Mercedes Benz in Atlanta: It's designed to support a grass pitch; it has full irrigation and drainage. In fact, the existing artificial turf is watered for every Atlanta United match to speed up the ball. Capacity-wise, for soccer it can hold at least 73,019 as that was the crowd for the 2018 MLS Cup. It's an amazing venue and we can't wait to welcome the world ... again. 30 years ago we did the Olympics and now the World Cup. Awesome stuff.
@@evannelson4203 I've been to several Atlanta United and Atlanta Falcons games with seats all over the stadium and don't recall bad sightlines anywhere. Which corners you speak of?
He probably made a segment for every stadium on the original list and then just cut out the unselected stadium's clips from the video and rendered as soon as the announement was made. Pretty Smart
FIFA announced on Wednesday the 16 North American cities that will host matches for the 2026 World Cup, with 11 venues chosen in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada. The 2026 World Cup will be the first tournament hosted by three nations and also the first that will expand to 48 teams in the competition
@@moisesruelasss Does the stadium WiFi work now, at least? I know that was a huge embarrassment for a while, considering how much Jed York bragged about how high-tech the stadium was gonna be.
The BBVA in Monterrey , looks absolutely amazing! Both the inside, with that soccer field , and those beautiful mountain views! Not to mention the futuristic stainless steel in the outside!
@@TacomaParkour As a season ticket holder I can agree. And BTW Kansas City barely broke our noise record despite having over 10,000 more fans in the stands. That was a fun year though how we kept going back and forth
Iam sorry but for me (an European) it looks kinda weired and i prefer Other stadiums. But I heard about the great Atmosphere there, a friend had an exchance Jear there and he said the Atmosphere was great :)
@@mariopavon1899 Yeah, and your Stadium holds 10k more people. I honestly don’t know how Kansas City is a host city. Which is the bigger point. Would have been better in Cincinnati
This is going to be an awesome world cup. Great stadiums, great for local fans and for visiting fans. 48 participating countries is great for a one-off! (I hope they'll reduce back to 32 In later world cups though)
FIFA reducing the size of the field will never happen. More teams in the WC means more money they can squeeze out of more people. IAH, it wouldn't even surprise me if they expanded the field again before I shuffle off this mortal coil, because FIFA just loves money.
@@someguy5487 Yes, i know it's idle hope. Now that it has been decided let's enjoy a world cup of 48 teams. North America is the perfect place for that.

Gillette Stadium is actually get some renovations to the north side (where the lighthouse is). They are enclosing the part where the pathway is, increasing the size of the lighthouse, and are installing the largest outdoor videoboard in the U.S. on the enclosed pathway, among other things. It's pretty cool and will be done by 2023.
It's also where the "game of the century" between Germany and Italy took place and where Maradona scored both the greatest goal in world cup history and the hand of god and so many legends have played there. Hope they do good renovations because they're badly needed.
I live near Seattle. The infrastructure around Lumen field where, the Sounders and Seahawks play, is great. Light rail train, busses, plenty of hotels, parks, great atmosphere etc. And it's a few hours away from Vancouver BC I'm super excited.
I plan on making it to Vancouver for the cup. I'm from Edmonton and the snub still stings but Vancouver has the better venue and infrastructure and ability to create a local rivalry with Seattle nearby... Get some better HSR's running and you'd have yourself a successful Greater Cascadia party town!
@@SGT676 I heard that Las Vegas originally bid but then withdrew due to a FIFA's requirement that was a bit unreasonable in my opinion. Americans are pragmatic, sometimes too pragmatic to agree on building something of little or no use. FIFA made bigger leeway to Qatar.
@@lactran7475 Chicago did the same, despite being one of America’s biggest cities. They didn’t want to deal with FIFA’s requirements to submit a bid. Same for Montreal in Canada.
This will shatter the attendance-record for world cups, not only because there will be more teams and thus more games, but also because all stadiums are on steriods(except the "tiny" 45k one)
I'm a Kansas City Chiefs fan who is really looking forward to going to some World Cup games at Arrowhead! Tyler, I love your channel. Keep up the good work! I would really like to see you do a video on college basketball arenas, such as the Palestra in Philadelphia, Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Rupp Arena in Lexington KY, and Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence KS. I would like to see you cover all the conferences like you have with the college football stadiums.
What is the fascination with Arrowhead? The place was built 50 years ago. It looks very much like the old Giants Stadium, which was nothing special or interesting.
@@cinnaminson0653 First football specific stadium in the US. Not a bad sightline in the house and would be illegal to build now with how steep the top section is. But that makes the acoustics perfect and even as an outdoor stadium it's louder than even stadiums with domes designed to keep sound in like the one in Seattle. The 142.2 decibel game wasn't even particularly loud, but it has the record because that was when the Guinness record people showed up to measure. Also it usually smells amazing because of all the BBQ going outside whenever anything is happening.
@@Troyjnorris I get how fanatical the fans are. I guess that KC is going to go Fenway Park with this place and never replace it . I saw many games at the old Giants Stadium and it had great sight lines but was ultimately a soulless facility. I always thought that Arrowhead looked like it. The new NJ stadium is also soulless. I don't care for the basic design no matter how good the sight lines are.
I wish Orlando had been picked for the States, especially since by 2026, it will be an even more massive place for Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, etc and the tourism and the WC fans would have loved it!
@@benmangrum8626 yeah probably would have been better to host in Orlando too cause in my state of Texas Dallas and Houston aren’t the most attractive places. Especially Houston in my opinion but same goes for Dallas .
The azteca stadium 🏟️ in Mexico city. Is gonna gonna start a full renovation and new buildings around it. It's gonna be close for the next 4 years since renovation starts this fall.
@@iqgamer5085 they plan to play in the old Estadio Azul but knowing América, that team will probably try to play at least some league games in the United States if it's allowed.
I hope they give Mexico at least one Brazil and one Argentina game for old times sake, preferably Brazil in Guadalajara, that's like their second home.
@@hmdwgf Yes. It was a revolutionary idea for the day. Stadiums built in the 60s and 70s tended to be very ugly (but functional) concrete donut style stadiums, so the Astrodome and Pontiac Silverdome really stood out. The city of Houston is working on converting the Astrodome into a civic center, now that it no longer hosts sports.
hello to the all our fellow Canadians and the US Americans that we'll be sharing the world cup with, I lived relatively near to the Akron stadium when i was a child so seeing it on the world cup is such a joy and I bet lots of people from the other cities feel similarly
The legendary El Estadio Azteca😍 we will all watch another legendary game in that stadium. The crown 👑 of Fifa World Cup Stadium. We are lucky to be alive.
Can I suggest a video about something like all stadiums of top playoff teams. Like for example all football stadiums of CFB playoffs teams since the start. And can you do a video about the new realigned conference aka B12 and AAC. Do sunbelt too if you can. Love the vids!
One thing people will appreciate about the stadiums in Dallas, Houston and Atlanta is that they are all indoors and climate controlled. Considering the dreadful summer heat in Texas and the intense summer humidity in Atlanta, the fans and players will appreciate it- I guarantee the roofs on those stadiums will not open during this WC- they don’t open for the NFL season until late in the year, when it isn’t so hot. Kansas City, Miami, Guadalajara and the northeastern cities- Toronto and Boston less so might be a problem, and Monterrey- unless they play the games in the morning or at night will be absolutely dreadful. Also- SoFi Stadium isn’t an indoor stadium like the properly indoor stadiums are- its roof is more like a canopy. You’re still outside in that stadium- and unlike the Rose Bowl, which sees intense heat in summer SoFi doesn’t see intense heat because of its proximity to the ocean. LA is in a hilly desert and has a dry Mediterranean climate. The weather difference between areas in LA within 5 miles from the Pacific and areas at least 25 miles from the Pacific is quite big. The weather in areas within about 5 miles from the Pacific doesn’t often go past 80 degrees, and the further away you go from the Pacific there the hotter it gets. Pasadena, where the Rose Bowl is often sees summer temps past 100 degrees and is only 25 miles from the Pacific.
Your sarcasm on the Bangladesh sweatshop, I mean the Levi Stadium and the Indian Giver Stadium in Miami Garden is probably why Google (RU-vid) refuses to place you in the top search. This video should already be over a million views. 😂⚽😂⚽😂⚽😂⚽😂
@@fixpacifica It's the dumbest stadium. No where near SF. Public trans is terrible to and from (haven't been there since the last time the Chiefs played there before this season (Alex Smith was still QB.) It's surrounded by a bunch of 5 story office cloned buildings. So there wasn't really anywhere to go or anything to do pregame if you're not into tailgating (at that time.)
In the United States the stadiums we have are just incredible. There are like ten other stadiums that could have made it but their cities didn't even bid. Eg. Las vegas, Arizona, Minnesota. As an Atl resident Mercedes-Benz stadium 🏟 all the way. We should get a semifinal game and a third place match at the minimum. Ny will host the opening ceremony. I believe the finals will go to Dallas.
@@littleboy1273 by soulless do you mean atmosphere? Because there are a few stadiums that are have some great atmospheres , Charlotte fc averages like 60k every game and have probably the closest thing to European crowds in the Us
The 3rd Canadian host was Montreal’s to give up & they did… So silly how they didn’t want a once in a lifetime event coming to the city. Especially as they have played host to the Olympics, F1, World Expo etc etc.
They had 2 options. Saputo Stadium could have been expanded to well over 40,000, if they removed the original stand and built a 2 tier setup, or Stade Olympique, which could easily have been 60,000+ or even the original 73,000, if they reverted to the original Olympic capacity. But one assumes they didn't want the headache of upgrading either.
@@LordDavid04 The reason was the same as when Vancouver didnt bid initially for world cup, since thry didnt like FIFA terms for becoming the host. Vancouver changed its mind after covid hit and wanted to boost tourismand FIFA also probably lowered expectations on some things
I’m excited to have Kansas City take part. My nephew is a HUGE fan of the sport and has been talking about it non stop. I hope we will be able to take him.
As a Miami native, knowing a couple games will be played in Miami is so cool to hear, Hard Rock Stadium is on the more elite side of stadiums on this list. Although i expect most playoff games to be played on La Azteca, Vancouver and Newyork but oh well

The first ever WC to be co-hosted by more than 2 countries and the first, although partially, taking place in the US since 1994. I like the idea of a sports tournament being held throughout North America, let alone when it's the biggest global sporting event! It would be amazing to follow the WC along from the group stages right up to the knock-out phase though I bet it'll be pricey, especially for foreigners like me, to book flights, find accomodations etc ... but it would be one heck of an experience for sure!
I would've liked to have seen the stadium that's built within the old car factory, Detroit, I think. And the death star in Vegas Edit. Its the Indionappolis stadium that I was thinking of, Detroit Ford field is still nice though.
