I love that too! I can remember my uncle who was a car mechanic sitting on the side on our scout with his feet in the engine bay as he would fix it. It was an amazing vehicle.
I'm curious what they qualify as "user serviceable". I'm with you though, this is a huge check box when we live in a world of not being able to repair your own stuff.
Both great vehicles. If it can combine some of the best parts of both, with American design/production and VW's pocketbook/engineering oversight, it could be very good.
This is probably the most excited I've been about an EV. Especially the range extended option. Love the front bench idea. Awesome how they gave nods to old designs too.
Big Manufacturers take note. This is how you buy out or bring back a brand. You write them a blank check and you let them do what made them popular in the first place. Like Tata did with Range Rover or Geely with Volvo. Loving how VW did this, kept the brand in the US, body on frame and it’s not a VW underneath.
Ok seriously. This is the most exciting thing to happen to vehicles in A WHILE. Seriously cool specs and some SERIOUS off road features. This is the one and only electric vehicle I would even consider. If they keep that price point these will do great. Very interested in what the hybrid version can do.
I had a 1974 Scout II, it really is amazing how they were able to visually connect them, definitely love the bench seat the most, hopefully 🙏 it will start a new trend 😊
Yea, that’s called a Ranger. Literally the same base vehicle with a different cab with a bed on. Same chassis, suspension, infotainment, transmission, and engine. It’s like calling a taco a burrito once it’s rolled up. All the same stuff just presented differently.
@@TangoTangoAlpha yeah but it’s not a Bronco. Put the Bronco body and retro styling on a Ranger chassis. Can’t tell me it wouldn’t sell better than the vanilla looking Ranger. I’d trade in my Trail Boss Colorado the day they hit dealers. Would have bought a Bronco but need a truck bed.
Well, I think their marketing team is trying to be very clear that it isn't Volkswagen that's doing this at all, Just footing the bill. I'll Reserve judgment until I see the UI
They've come a long way since not initially understanding why Americans want and need cupholders. (Long story short, decades ago, they sent engineers to the US and found the longer straighter roads meant longer trips which meant more people needing to eat and drink on the go.)
These both look fantastic. They absolutely nailed the looks. A gas range extender means you can carry a jerry can of fuel out on an offroad adventure. Front and rear lockers, a solid rear axle. All fantastic things that I did not expect!
I love scouts so i would choose this over a rivian or any other electric especially with the gas option. I was impressed by the hummer suv though once aome youtubers got to drive one in video. That was nice.
Nice looking truck. My Dad had a Travelall when I was growing up. Looking forwards to you guys being able to test it and see how it performs in the real world
My wife’s dad had the Travelall too. She remembers as a kid the family driving all over the US and Canada towing a camper. It was some govt surplus truck painted traffic cone orange. She and her sisters loved it.
Thats a sweet looking EV Pick up .... Lookss like they put lot of thought into the utility for the pick up and the bench seats are just so cool. Very nice clean design , love it !!!!
This is amazing.. Scout is in a fantastic position. Its gets to hire talent from existing EV companies bringing best practices. It gets to use well-developed battery/motor solutions used by other companies. It had a chance to study the whole industry for years and incorporate end user feedback into its initial design.. And will be able to benefit from the latest battery tech early on.
My old school Scout, 300,000 on that engine. Locking front and rear. The only thing I had to fix was the front and rear differential. The engine is solid. This new one is like a new puppy, its cute but not like the old school dog in the house
My father in law drove his International Scout pickup until it fell apart. Then he converted the bed into a trailer. Which I tow with my Rivian - so I guess I already have an EV Scout pickup. 😆
That truck is cool but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send us a single cab with 8' bed option! That would make it capable of being an actual work truck. 5.5' bed is more like a lifestyle vehicle. LOVE the bench seat
Single cab? What are you, divorced?!?!? Single? Most of us have 2 humans in the household along with Pets My Labrador alone eats 80% of the back seat. She only sits for the first 60 secs or so, then she lays down, much to my Blue Heelers' dismay.
I LOVE IT! IT HAS EVERYTHING I'VE MISSED ON THE MODERN TRUCKS! - Bench seat (!!!!!) - Real handles - Buttons and knobs - Somewhat traditional design It's a truck for people who actually like trucks!!
I just watched the Scout reveal. Having a rear mounted engine as a generator is brilliant for the range extender harvester. Hope that it's not just the Traveller, but the Terra too. That's huge for performance and range. Putting the weight in the rear and keeping the trunk up front is perfect. I'm really rooting for this vehicle to be great. Driveway serviceability and user friendly, what a concept. Factory direct sales bypasses all those dealership markups. If they can hit the advertised price point this sure looks like a winner.
This will be my next truck. Had me at range extender. Bravo scout. Even the Chinese companies realized that range extender was the perfect blend of efficiency
Like a lot of that. Don't need the 'upkink' in the back of the cab windows and wish the bed was 1' longer, it would be usable for my needs. Price still a bit high, given the short bed, but reasonable. Love the front bench.
This is so spot on, from capability to towing to self serviceability to looks…. Everything here is just pitch perfect. I’ll wait a year to see if they are glitchy, but if not, I’m buying one in 2928.
That bench seat is awesome. $60K sounds great but I'm guess most buyers will choose options that bring it closer to $80K or more. Very exciting though especially with the range extender option.
I did a focus group last summer for the Scout pickup and this is pretty much what they were talking and showing then. I had the impression that it was a mid size truck with a full size short bed. They had it around $60k with 400 miles of range, so 350 with a range extender is pretty good too. I while bench seats are a little retro cool, I prefer an armrest and storage, so hopefully they either add a 5 seat option, or a flip down seat back armrest. I had a Dodge pickup with the fold down armrest that worked ok. I really like the way it looks inside and out, plus I didn’t get to see the frunk before and that’s very nice. I didn’t have much hope since my ID.4 doesn’t have any frunk. I do have a reservation for the R2, so this will be a fair competition among the SUV’s
❤ love it. I am a baby boomer. My father worked International Harvester in Fort Wayne Indiana before World War II left to fight and came back and worked at International Harvester. I had a 1974 Scott 2 I want one
That truck is real close to an international truck that I had as my first vehicle. I can’t wait to see what scout does with this vehicle and what accessories and old school designs
I love everything about it. However, we all know how the pricing goes... Each delay in production jacks the price up for some reason. This will be $80-100k, just like the Cybertruck.
Love it! I yelled, "and it's got a bench seat!" The minute you looked inside and freaked out the dog and wife, lol😂. Love the look, size, specs so far... if they'd sell it with just a gas motor it would be perfect, hehe. Price...nice! (But believe it when I see it.)
I don't think $60k is going to be unrealistic in 2027 with how quickly battery prices are dropping. However thats probably not the trim they're showing here.
I made my reservation. Love the look and the range extender option. I really think EV with a range extender (gas generator) is the future power plant for vehicles. The plug in hybrid vehicles like the Jeep 4xe are too expensive for not providing much electric range. You pay EV premium w/o eliminating your gas costs. The BYD Shark from China is configured like this I believe. I’m super excited. Can’t wait.
Okay, now THAT is what I'm talking about! A body on frame PHEV, solid rear axle, locking diffs, mid size, with 10k tow rating, 2k payload, and it is aimed at $60k or less? If they manage to deliver the hybrid for around 50k you can bet your caboose I am buying one! Now, what remains to be seen is if reality meets expectation and I'm gonna be real, 2027 is a VERY long way off. In all honesty I think we will be lucky for this to actually reach the market and I will be shocked if they don't goose the price to over $90k to make it a luxury vehicle. The fact that the big manufacturers are ignoring the middle market in favor of luxury goods has left the largest market segment unserved. If these guys are smart and make cost effective versions they will be in a position to eat the lunch of GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Thanks to the TFL team for bringing this to my attention, this is EXACTLY what I have been begging for. And, since we have a few years till they launch, I will be saving my pennies to get one.
The strategy is to keep it an everyday man's truck. They know most of the market cannot afford a 100k truck. They are securing pricing for all parts now, so it should be pretty close to that.
The view out of the back window is genius. All other manufacturers should be ashamed for not coming up with that sooner. Ford is too busy designing a reverse knob next to the steering wheel
I see that they haven't forgotten IH's original vision. Solid axles, body on frame, and a compressor to boot. The new Scout should be good on the farm and the trail. Question is will it be priced low enough that owners will want to use it for actual work and offroading?
This is my new favorite vehicle! I love everything about it, and I really want to own it. For what it is, the price seems reasonable, but it cost more than I'm willing to spend. But maybe I can pick one up used in a few years. Honestly, IMO this isn't just the best electric truck I've seen, this is the best truck, full stop. It's perfect. It looks fantastic, I love the bench seats, I love that it's smaller, and I could take it off road. I really do want an EV, and this one has me really excited!
I've been a RAM driver for more than a decade and I'd trade in my keys in a heartbeat for a range extended Scout. Will it be released in Canada? And if so, what dealership company should I be contacting for updates on release schedule for them? I'm already on a contact list for the RAM Charger... But the Scout seems to be more compelling to me, at least comparing paper specs.
Love the interest! Yes, selling in Canada, and scout will not sell through dealers. They said in the reveal you can buy from your phone in ten min. Service side remains to be seen.
Both are amazing upon first viewing... As a functional EV and "if" affordable, these will be a game changer. IMO this is what Tesla should be focusing on. The size you are presenting and a smaller version, similar to a Ford Maverick would be amazing for the American market. Many of us don't need something that big, so a slightly more every day usable version would be a plus.
Ok I admit I was worried what it was going to look like but omg I really like both these vehicles.. might have to think about getting one of these in a couple of years as long as they don’t go down the Cybertruck price changes.
The rang extender for both the truck and SUV? Probably the only way I would want to own a EV is with a generator. At least for the next decade until the grid is set up and batteries alone can push 500miles
Chevy is already doing an EV truck with almost 500 mile range. The grid is very good now as i was able to drive across country in my Ford lightning with 320 mil range with not one problem charging.
@@LarryRichelli that is good to hear. I read a lot but I don't own a EV so your opinion is probably more valid than mine or the things I hear about the grid status. I do hear the term "range anxiety" often though. Yes the GMC/chevy are one of my top EV options because of the range.
