21 Carnival Sunrise Updates and Changes (2019)

Carnival Sunrise just underwent a massive renovation in 2019, making her a lot like sister-ship Carnival Sunshine. Carnival Cruise Line first announced that they were going to make this renovation in summer 2018.

Some of the changes the ship saw during the 60-day dry dock were the addition of the Cloud 9 Spa, a two-deck adults-only serenity area, a sushi eatery called Bonsai Sushi, the Italian place called Cucina del Capitano, Waterworks Aqua Park, Guy's Pig & Anchor BBQ Smokehouse, a new Java Blue Cafe on deck four in place of the old library, RedFrog Pub, a new Piano Bar 88, and over 100 new staterooms.
The ship already had Guy's Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina from a dry dock back in 2013, as well as other Fun Ship 2.0 features.
Carnival Sunrise will be based between New York City in the summertime and down in Florida in the winter doing Caribbean cruises from Port Everglades.

@@shantehowell744 Look for the "Mayor" Clinty. He is the best cabbie there. We had a ball with him. Good group price to hit all the key attractions & gives you in dept knowledge of Bermudas history etc.

I’m noticing a trend here that most of the changes were to increase revenue not customer experience. Adding staterooms and specialty dining/shops just makes them more money.

I don't know how I've missed this video before but I love it. I hate to repeat ships but I've been on the Triumph twice and will now actively seek out a cruise in the Sunrise. Finally going on the Sunshine for the Sailabration in March.

This was really well done. Very detailed and informative regarding the complete transformation from Triumph to Sunrise. Like to see Carnival add something, just one unique thing to each of their ships making it just a little different with individual character along with all the other fan favorites, like Guys burgers and Red Frog Pub. Certainly be sailing her in the future. Thanks!

Just did the 2 week cruise out of NY. Was amazing. Watching the ship go through the Panama Canal. A lot of great changes to the ship. It was fun though, looking for hints of the past. The easiest to spot was the life rings. They all still say Triumph on them, even though they placed a sticker with the new name on the other side...lol.

Hi Doug, I'm a new follower and really enjoy all your content! I just got back from my 8th cruise. My question is, do you have any tips for sailing out of NY? We would be driving there so we're wondering about parking options, traffic, any potential snooze and cruise options. Thanks!

We have sailed out of NY a few times. We are familiar with the city, so this was easy for us. We all boarded the ship except for my husband. He drove the car to a parking garage that has lifts then rode the subway back to the terminal to board the ship. Essentially, the car is lifted in the air with cars under it to save space. It is the cheapest option and is even cheaper if you drive a sedan rather than a mini van. You just have to call the parking garage when you get back to port so they can take the car down. If I recall correctly, it was $7 per day instead of around $40 per day near the ship.

Jessica Matchett it always depends on what day of the week you leave on. The subway does not depend on traffic, so you will be fine with that. Make sure you leave more than enough time for travel because a subway can be delayed or closed and you could have to take a taxi, which takes time because there is always traffic in NY
