This is NOT the same 21 that started out, at all. It’s extremely refreshing and kind of uplifting/comforting. It’s what you love to see and you hope to see more of.

He's been incredibly smart with how he's been dropping and realizes the hype around the names featured. His previous album (2014 Forrest) proved he could spit top tier, create top tier beats and still go platinum, no features. All that said, lyrically 21 did the damn thing but it's not like j Cole hasn't rewritten shit to meet the level of his features. So it seems even more that it was intentional. He wanted to give them that shine in a way that's not just gun violence and hoes. Aaaaand to have people looking at you like you bodied Cole whilst doing it? It's an intelligent attempt at a culture shift.
