Congratulations! I love my 22.5 WSM and find it to a VERY versatile cooker, plus it is easy to transport in a SUV. Gotta get me the fire dial and I'll be set! WSM - Don't leave home without it!
You can use it as a Santa Maria grill (per BBQ MANIAC), grill for wearing, fire pit in addition to being a great smoker. Lots of mos per Phil n Florence and Joe's.BBQ House. Enjoy the journey!
@@bassman7496 I got rid of my 22” year’s ago and got an 18” and have never regretted it. My favorite mod I’ve done is I got the Hunsaker vortex charcoal basket. Tried the water pan, tried the fire dial too. The vortex is a game changer ( in my opinion anyway)
Those casters are cool. So far I only added a second coal grate and digiq dx3. Think I will get the door next. First day I used my new 22..I dropped the lid and chipped painr.
I bought the 22 WSM a few weeks ago. I did the firedial and I put the Cajun Bandit door plus an added door gasket. Now most of the smoke comes out the top vent. I also get a much better smoke ring without that water pan. The 22 is worth the extra , especially when cooking without the middle grate. Yesterday , it barely fit a 7 pound rack of ribs and two 4 pound roasts.
I completely agree with all of that. I rarely ever use a water pan and if I do I don’t put water in it. I used to have the 18 and now I have the 22 as well as a few other 22” drum smokers and love the size of it!
You did some nice add ons. In two years I'm sure that you have done more. In addition to what you did I put gasket around the door and for the lid. I've added two side shelves from Cajun Bandit and the rotisserie will be here Wednesday. I also have a rib hanger from Gateway Pit Barrel. I have steel grates custom made and mesh charcoal baskets. Mine were made for me by Woodshed BBQ greg. He is no longer building them. Arbor Fabricating makes mesh baskets, grates and minion nests. for the WSM. I also replaced the vents with bolt on ones to tighten them up and put bakelite knobs on them from Amazon. Those aluminum tabs get hot. Be nice to see what other things you've done with your cooker in the last two years.
Wow what you did is awesome! I added the lid hinge to both the 18 and 22, wheel and chamber locking kit to the 22, and the Cajun bandit door to the 22. Here’s a video I did a few weeks back comparing the 2 and I kind of go over the mods I did. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1s9KZxdWtSc.html
I watched this vid when you made it, but don't see my comment. Happens I watched it on the big screen tv via Roku and never made comments. Glad you got the 22 which is worth the extra capacity etc. I like the looks of that fire dial. Will check in on that item. Can't wait to see you use it.
Phil N Florence the firedial does work but IMO it is hard to keep those “low and slow” temps. For sure worth a buy if you’re looking to cook hot and fast.
Yes thought that was the best MOD to. Thanks for the video. 🇨🇦Stay-Safe and Healthy 🇨🇦 EH! The True North Strong 💪 and Free. PS. Our Health System Works 100% 4 All CANUCKS.😎.
Any fitment issues with the Cajun bandit door? I’ve had heck trying to close the gaps on the top left and right side. Any tips ? Btw, tried the bucket method and it hasn’t worked well
Kidz Bop 38 is Straight FIRE!! I go in between using the water pan and fire dial. If I’m cooking 275 or above I use the fire dial but if I’m cooking below that I use the water pan without and water in it.
@@MadHorseBBQ gotcha. Well, your video was the final straw I needed to sell me on the 18" WSM. I'm also going to get the Cajun upgrades (new door and fire ring). Might get a digital thermometer/fan but that will be later when the wife isn't blowing fire from her nostrils. Thanks man!
OMG, had my WSM-22 for 15 years never had any MODS . Works great since day one. Don’t see any reason to. Seems like a waste of money. Does it improve your finished product? If so how.🇨🇦😎🇨🇦CHEERS 🍻EH!
Stephen Nielsen doesn’t improve the grill function what so ever. The cyber q cloud I had already and use it on about half of my charcoal grills. The only mod that I feel improves the grill is the lid hinge.
