Where I train with Jon Thomas, in Gothenburg, we have white belts at 2 years experience. So there’s a big skill difference between beginner class and ours.

@C0d0ps u can be white belt for 2 years ???? What are they like not that good or how long does it usually take to get out of white belt?actually asking not trying talk shiii I am barely getting in the sport and thought u could get out of white belt in a good year or year and a half max 🤔

@@cesaraugusto369 In most schools they do 1-3 years. I think our bjj class is around 2 years maybe less. We don’t actually have someone that grades us in no gi. - So I assume if I win white belt competitions someone can complain that I’m not a white belt and they promote me. - TLDR normal time is around 2 years. My school is not normal because I don’t train in a gi.

@C0d0ps Gi sucks No Gi is where the fun is I wasted 8 years on no Gi... I am Still a white belt on the Gi since I don't train with a Gi If I had to do things differently, I would have done both. Maybe I would be purple or brown by now

@@RS-kq9rr I think you’re a purple belt but yeah you’re right. Close to brown belt, I only train no gi. - I compete in submission wrestling, I’ve learned straight ankle locks, knee bar, toe holds, currently learning heel hooks. - In ibjjf I can only do ankle locks but we have some tournaments under adcc rules that allows me kneebars. - I’m mainly training for mma and self defense. So double sleeve and spider guard or berimbolo doesn’t help me.

Massive shout out to Robbie and all the guys at the Jungle Academy, Robbie is in the jungle 7 days a week whilst working a full time job, travels the uk every other weekend cornering the boys wherever they go, had the pleasure of training with these boys a bit and the talent coming out of this club is unbelievable, congratulations everybody involved.

BJJ has changed so much since I started. These guys roll better than old school purple/brown belts in some ways. I have no doubt that they have plenty to learn and will improve greatly, and that maybe some of their fundamentals aren’t all the way there, but as far as overall grappling ability, they are very impressive.

Insane day. Pleasure to be invited down from Scotland with my team. Couldnt find a more welcoming team to train, roll and have some rounds with. Cals boys are all killers. Thoroughly deserved promotions. Team to watch for sure. Fitting for young max to get his blue at the end, lad is a serious talent.

I'm still really young into BJJ myself so my opinions are only as good as my experience, HOWEVER, my instructor has made it pretty clear and is often times reminding us students who get excited watching the ADCC and such that in order to learn proper Jiu jitsu you MUST train the Gi. I'm not knocking No-Gi. It's fun and competitive. A real blast and absolutely trainable. But it isn't the Gi. My only concern is how do you qualify to your next belt if you're not rolling the Gi during promotional rolls?

I've have been called a sandbagging white belt(Tapped blue/purple belts) for about a year but these guys are impressive. I don't feel deserving and this is exactly why I enjoy my journey and will not be an imposter. I will be moving to UK in early 2025 and definetly wanna check this place out.

Great atmosphere. Very high level for white belts. Felt Young Max was solid, but Mark showed a pattern of going for the ankle and I figured he'd get the win that way. Seems like more and more guys going for that these days. Not my favorite type of jiu jitsu, but part of the sport...
