Had to install a small french drain in my side yard due to an underground spring that was soaking the valley in between the exposed ledge and the hill, leaving behind lots of mud days after rain. I made a small trough out to the end of the driveway and plan to extend that trough back up through the length of the driveway behind the drain spill out.

Love the videos, Just something that might make the BX backhoe quicker, use the buck to push yourself along and hoist yourself to turn the back end. Lean up front and turn the wheel and push with the bucket to direct yourself. Time saver for trenching. You probably know this anyways. I have a Bobcat T590 and a BX. I ordered a B26 and waiting.

Thanks! Yeah, I do that all the time using the BX nowadays. I basically use the tractor + backhoe like my excavator haha.

If that's perf pipe you really need to make sure the fabric is over lapped to make sure dirt doesn't infiltrate and clog the pipe. I hope this works good for you for a long time. The BX23S is a real workhorse.

Nice job but does it work?

it did work quite well! But I recently ripped it up to extend my access driveway out further and have it draining through just stone now.

Had you thought about putting a Tee and another pipe with a shutoff valve from the spring across the driveway and lawn to a veggie garden?

Could this have been solved by simply regrading the land for better drainage?

No, not really. Since it was an underground spring, the water had no where to go and the packed soil didn't disperse it well, leading to lots of mud. Thus putting in a drainage way (crushed stone and pipe) allows for the water to disperse and permeate surrounding soil better, and overflow will come out the pipe. Re-grading wouldn't do anything (as it was already sloped), unless you were to evenly remove a foot or more of material from that area and then you would have it springing water on top of the ground.
