My lead bullet is a STINGER, it's followed by VELOCITORS in my magazines. I want the impact of the faster STINGER on the first shot, but I want proper loading with my VELOCITORS. In my Taurus TX after over 1100 rounds, I have had .6% failure rate. All were using STINGERS. Not one VELOCITOR failed. Good enough for me. 😊
Generally CCI makes the most reliable ammo, have you ever tried aguilla 40gr interceptors? They are hotter than the velocitor.. also very reliable as well.👍🇺🇸
I’ve also found CCI extremely reliable. Even their budget ammo has worked well for me (except maybe for the really old bare aluminum cased Blazer from the 90s). I like Aguilla too, but haven’t tried the rimfire ammo. Will definitely check it out.
I tried the Interceptors through mine. They were slightly slower than Velocitors. I got an average of 931 fps with Interceptors and 949 fps with Velocitors. Winchester Super X were faster than both at 962 fps.
I prefer the CCI mini mag in 40 grain round nose for the reliability. I think that is much more important than velocity when your life depends on it. If you get into a defensive situation the LAST thing you want is a stoppage. I like a reliable round.
I ran some through my lcp2 22..seemed hard on the gun and the magizne..I won't probably shoot anymore in it I'll save them for my 10 22..my lcp2 likes the cci standard velocity
Well I was watching another video on this same setup and he said he was having the same problem with Stingers not ejecting. The casing from the Stinger is longer then a normal 22 shell which makes ejecting out of the Ruger makes it harder because of the size of the ejection port. The ejecting port of the LCP is really small and he did that’s probably why it was doing it. They are made for rifles or bigger 22 hand guns. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the nickel plate but idk. I have Stingers and the Ruger and I haven’t shot any out of it yet. I’m still going threw my mini mags
Yup, Stingers have that extra millimeter or so of case. I didn't even know that before I bought this box. Now I have a revolver, mainly so I can shoot Stingers, lol!
Might be the mags do not work as well with the slightly longer nickel case. It wouldn't hurt to hand polish (We don't change any angles) the feed ramp and chamber with a little Flitz and a Q-Tip. Even if it doesn't help with the Stingers the smooth shiny surface makes it clean up easier and faster.
Super review for sure with all the relevant information so wonderfully presented. A similar test for the CCI Velocitor will be highly appreciated as well. God Bless.
I just bought same gun and tested it and chronograph it the other day. The lady behind the counter who sold me the gun said to use Aguila high velocity ammo, which is said to feed the best. 100 rounds with only 4 FTF, which for a .22, is pretty good, I made a video too, and that Aguila was chronograph over 1100 fps👍🏼good video too bro.
Ok, right on the money I tried stingers and 2 for 2 mags it did that fte double feed thing, cycles blazer, Cci standard, aguila high velocity copper fmj, the Winchester super x’s only ammo I’ve had a single issue w besides these are velocitors and the he rounds have about a 1% primer or light strike issue. Love this little gun though, she don’t like stingers
Mine shoots most stuff pretty well. Last time out, 200 rounds of Thunderbolts and not one hickup. Doesn't like Stingers though. Velocitors are no problem.
Our testing showed our lcp ll runs the 36gr mini-mags best...we still carry revolvers because the gun isn't 101% trusted...sometimes it will shoot a 100 out of a 100 without issue, but not everytime...probably related to being .22 rimfire, but that is a deal breaker for carry, and now the gun used as a range toy...
The wax is not to keep out moisture. It is to prevent leading the barrel. The plating is very thin and is of minimal value in preventing leading. Pretty much all 22s are waxed or lubricated in some way
I like the vids man! I have one of those too. I run HV 40 grain Winchester solids in mine. I don't generally carry it for SD though. Mine kills egg eating snakes in my chicken coops.
I recently bought some boxes of 40gr winchester super x hp. They have a real pop to them, even more so than minimags, which is nice for bulk ammo. I found a gel test for them on here yesterday, where they performed great, and expanded nicely.
Exactly. When the mag is full it exerts the most pressure on the bottom of the slide, slowing it down when cycling. That, combined with the slightly longer case kept it from fully leaving the chamber before the next round in the mag pinned it. It should be noted that in stock form the extractor doesn’t do much in this gun. The empties eject mostly by being blown out of the chamber. When cycling the barrel drops too low and the extractor slips off the top of the rim. If you try to manually cycle unfired rounds through the gun they jam just like that stinger case. I fixed it by putting a 1/4” long piece of 1/16” diameter silicone between the barrel and takedown pin (the gun must be assembled upside down). Now it works perfectly. Well, almost. Hot ammo started making the slide lock back with rounds still in the magazine. I removed the slide stop entirely, and the empties still eject fine, and it fires everything flawlessly.
Those hangups with the stingers sure are weird. I was thinking the feed lips on that one magazine might be just the tiniest bit off, like 0.001" or something. But I'm not sure that theory holds water.
I just remembered that stingers have longer than standard cases. Ruger warns against using them in certain 10/22 models. I plan to not use them in anything.
Ruger recommends 1200-1400 fps rounds. So yes, the Stingers might be too hot. Mine wouldnt feed the stingers. When I did get one, yes, it seemed too much for that pistol.
I know you’ve had issues with certain magazines with that Ruger before, but have you tried changing (or messing with) the recoil spring itself? Too bad you don’t have a $40,000 high speed camera so we could see what’s causing the hangups. Lol. 😂
This gun has utterly failed for my intended ankle carry purposes. The fact that I have to put thousands of rounds through it to break it in, get a performance spring kit, heavier recoil spring, and maybe even a performance trigger, and fiddle with the countless permutations of ammo x magazine x accuracy all makes this little gun unsustainable. Its a shame as I really wanted this one to work as a backup ankle carry pistol. Ill going to order the Galloway spring kit and the MCarbo recoil spring as a last ditch effort and hope that that they improve reliability. After that, I think Im going to go for a .32 HR or maybe even the Taurus .380 revolver.
@@Mrbankfisherman Ahh and the added backpressure from the suppressor will help the slide velocity as well! There is not alot of inertia with .22 so idk why they would even add the optics cut if it's not 100% reliable with standard velocity ammo. The Taurus tx22 competition has one but the slide is severely weight relieved to keep slide velocity high enough.
I think you're right. I tried it again off-camera about a week ago through both of the reliable magazines and had the same hiccups as in this initial test.
