#222. I'm HOOKED But This Was SCARY! A Resin Art Video by Daniel Cooper
In todays video I try my very FIRST Resin Art Tumbler! I often just jump into things feet first without seeing how things are done and this is a fine example of me doing just that!
I experience a few issues along the way and the biggest one was the Fish Eyes in my Resin! How scary are those! Whilst I have worked with Resin for some time now, I had never experienced this until now, I mean, I knew about them but never expected it on a Resin tumbler!
I had options but I had to carry on! I can now look at this Resin tumbler to remind me next time, to do things properly! Don't be stubborn like me and jump straight into a project! It could cost you a lot of unnecessary stress and Resin!
And yes, I accidently said I cured for 60 minutes instead of 60 seconds! hahaha

Hey Daniel, I had the same problem when I tried. I had far less than you and that was because I used a 99% isp and wiped it down before I came in and tired it. The other thing is, I think it reacted with the primer. If there is so much as a flaw it will show. So have another go!

This is an excellent example of the reality of being a creative person. Thank you for sharing you're human, Daniel. We are creative beings, and sometimes we cannot help ourselves. I also can relate to the perfectionist in you. I will complete pieces, find the flaw every time, and beat myself up over it. No one else even notices it, but I do. We can be our harshest critics. Watching your videos has inspired me to start my own RU-vid channel. To say I am terrified would be an understatement, but I think I could offer some insight and humor to the crafting world since I enjoy many different mediums of creation.

It still looks better than my first tumbler. I made it 2 1/2 years ago. I still have it. I have done at least 200 since then. I have learned a lot. Letting the paint dry and gas off is one of them. Yours is quite beautiful! Love the finished product. You should be proud of your newest work of art.

Dan, this is not a bad video at all! (Perfectionism really sucks). This is an honest video showcasing what the creative process looks like. And, to be honest, had I produced that tumbler, I'd be over the flippin' moon! Creative flow can be messy, but the 'mistakes' can be more instructive than a perfect success (which doesn't really exist anyway.) For me (and likely many others), your ideas and techniques are what I enjoy most about your videos.

I know I've learned a lot that way myself. Lol,...sometimes those frustrations are a bit painful though. Honestly, I think your galaxy effects were great. The colors were pretty cool. And even though the gold wasn't what you really wanted,...I have to say that was a pretty good save! 👍 Always appreciate your videos. I actually prefer when they aren't perfect all the time, because we learn from that. Brilliant first dive into tumbler land.😊

When doing tumblers, you need to use food grade resin. It’s a little thicker and works great. I do love the glitter in your piece and how you fixed it. When it comes to paint, there is a difference between dry and cured. Read the instructions. I love the ones that say to re-coat within 15 minutes or wait until next week. Or next month. At least it didn't wrinkle. I would date it, then keep it as a reminder of where you started. I think you did great for the first time out of the gate. Don't think of it as wasted effort or materials. It's an education, and that is priceless.

You know, when the fish eyes were all over the tumbler, it looked like hammered metal...so cool! I thought it was the Horsehead Nebula that color? Okay, my thoughts: I LOVE 3D effects and I would build UP those drip areas, then "outline" it maybe with gold metallic something. LOVING that gold leaf! Dan, you don't like it? First off I wanna say you did an amazing job for your first time with a tumbler!! The ink swirls were spot on!! I'm gonna say 1 of three things (or all of the below) caused your fisheyes.... 1. You did not wait until the spray paint is dry 2. You didn't clean the oils off the cup from handling it 3. You didn't use enough epoxy as a base layer I am a tumbler maker and epoxy and wood stained glass pieces that is venturing into molds and the like. Don't give up! You are doing a great job!! ❤

I may suggest watching the you tube video by glitz and glitter. She has a wonderful tutorial on doing tumblers. Great try Daniel, I haven’t even tried it yet, that’s on my try it list.

We all have our resin passions tumblers just don’t appeal. I had a tiny vacuum for Xmas from my daughter love it. Only used it for bread crumbs at the tea table so far. I love the tumbler. Excited impatience not stubborn 😊

Daniel don't sell yourself short, that tumbler turned out phenomenally. I would buy that in a heartbeat. A person could stare at it forever and still find new and interesting things in it. I'll be happy to send my address info if you want to sell it to me. Sometimes mistakes are the best way to make a masterpiece.🎉

Very cool effects! I'd have just gone in with black UV resin and left out the gold but it's still fun. and with the white they just looked like stars in a galaxy. Thanks for the video!

Hi Dan, this is a perfect example of ... If at first you do not succeed ... try try again! You learned something, we learned something and in the end the tumbler is a one of a kind piece of art! What more could we ask for? ❤❤
