Today we visited Sciple Water Mill, a Stone Grist Mill that has been in operation since 1790 in Dekalb, Mississippi (just under an hour north of us). We had no clue this local treasure was here!
The kids all enjoyed it and thought it was neat that the water could move such a heavy stone and turn the corn into meal and the wheat into flour.
We were sure to walk away with a big back of meal and some grits as well.

We have a grist mill near where we live, but it's only open seasonally in a state historic park about 30 minutes from here - in SE Ky. It's really interesting to see, and they have a display of old grinding stones as you go along the walkway up to it. It's a reproduction, but still really cool to visit with the kids/grandkids. :) Levi Jackson State Historic Park. :)

I grind my own corn and the flavor of fresh ground corn is amazing in my cornbread. It also makes the best corn tortillas.. Did you happen to find any sumac? I have 17 staghorn sumac flower heads drying on my porch at the moment.

So, what happened with the bamboo?
@JandjacresNet
@JandjacresNet 7 лет назад
I think we let it stay out too long and it dried up.

Ah yes. That happens in minutes, and then it's done and over for the bamboo. If you want to source bamboo shoots or pieces of roots, make sure the bottom of your container is filled with mud, and then topped with damp soil. If you want to plant it somewhere, the best time would be around april, as bamboo roots grow like hell during that period. Also, I'm sure everybody else warned you of that, but if you ever plant bamboo somewhere on your property, you will never get rid of it.

My I have alot of sumac. See birds eating the berrys. Like most..I had it confused with poison. But apon further look. I was probably getting it from poison oak or ivy mixed in the brush...lol I've been tricked!!
