Thanks for this review. I've got the Solomid xl in polynylon and feel well chuffed with it although I've only used it four times so far. Polynylon definitely seems to absorb less moisture than silnylon. I've been using a silnylon Cricket Tarp for the last three years or so. I've no experience regarding DCF I'm afraid. As regards the inner, MLD do supply a dedicated mesh inner which suits me just fine. (I do a lot of woodland camping.) After a bit of faffing about I've got it so it can be pitched all in one, with just some fine adjustments occasionally needed by adjusting the toggles on the shock cord. These shelters rely on really good secure pegging. I've found 9" Easton nails combined with Delta pegs the most satisfactory combination. I'm not really sure I'd call it a mountain tent to be honest. Certainly I'd feel the need to use a second trekking pole to create an A frame. MLD do supply a gadget to do this but I've not tried it. On the tops I'd rather be in a Hilleberg Soulo any day of the week. Best wishes and take care.

Thanks for the review. It's true that the Duomid can be peg-intensive but you can get away with four in calm conditions and increase the number as conditions deteriorate. The Duomid does pretty well in high winds and when it's howling you won't be complaining there are too many pegs pinning your tent to the ground.

I absolutely love mine but they seem to come up for sale 2nd hand quite often so they are not for everyone. The inners may be the main reason. My mate has a new, camo Duomid with an MLD Solomid inner and it looks amazing. However, the new one is bigger than mine. I think a Solomid XL tent would be a better size for me than the current Duomid. The Oookworks inner mine came with is even more saggy than the the inner you tried but it does clip to attachments in the Duomid so needs no more pegs. The MLD inner needs pegging out. In winter, heat exits that apex vent so the tent is not warm. The upside is greatly reduced condensation. Mine is dry inside even after nights of steady rain. If necessary, I block the vent by wrapping my overtrousers round that bit of sturdy webbing. The vent is a great place for drying socks etc. The sides and the back will pitch to the ground but the front always has a small air gap. MLD have refined this tent over the years but the website does not keep up. The text is more recent than their photos. They seem pretty good about answering questions, though.

Have same combination, I’ve managed to get it so the inner is fully attached to the fly so if wanted it could be put up and taken down as a combined tent. Also doesn’t require any extra pegs which is a bonus. Plenty of them already

I wish I went for the DCF instead of the silnylon but I am happy enough with mine , I stitched a loop on the rear mesh to lift it at the back a bit . But you are right it needs a bit of space to get a good pitch but seems solid enough in the wind if its fully pegged out. atb Dave

Really nice review ! I've got one question for duomid user. I've experienced water flowing through the zip during rainy nights (not very rainy but few hours). Is that normal ? Only a few nights with my tent yet !

The shock cord on the guy lines (and all the inner fastenings too is what I've done on my DCF SoloMid XL with DCF Inner) is to relieve stress on the DCF fabric as it is doesn't behave the same way sil-nylon does. It doesn't stretch and give like nylon, which in most cases is pro, but to relieve stress on the fabric, shock cord on the side panels and inner tent connections is *highly* recommended. I've also combined the side mid-panel guy lines with the lower ones so that they both tension as one, making that U or V shape, that works brilliant tbh. For me it was a lot of self assembly in terms of guy lines, but I've made many of my own and it's been great fun finding something that works for me, that I know all the in's and out's of. Currently the next tent I will be getting for two people is either the Double Rainbow Li or when ever Dan Durston get's the next batch of X-mid 2's in. Cheers and atb

A good review of the Dyneema MLD Duomid Andrew. I would buy one but it would probably be the XL size so that I could get an inner tent for two people. From what I can gather from Ray Scott he used an ookworks inner and it seemed to join up with the inner fixing points. Not sure whether he had to peg down the front of the inner. Hi Andrew, thanks for another top review. I like the look of this brand and the pyramid tent is a sleek look that looks good in windy conditions. I’d probably go for the solomid l silnylon but not many reviews out there on the new version. Does this tent have two ways zips? I’m torn between the mlt or the pretents soloist atm. Atb, Michael

Is it worth the money? Does look the business but are there other options on the market for less? Great video very informative so are you going to pull the trigger on one??

problem with those types is they are draughty as heck robbing your body of recovery by making you burn xtra calories to keep warm, huge footprint, take a good while to get right on uneven ground and with so many pegs it can be difficult on rocky or loose ground, loads of unusable floor space due to the low tech single pole and sharp angle of slant, which also makes them really cold in winter ( or any cold spell) and head height is only good in direct proximity to the pole, which is exactly where you can't sit. When lying down the pole is always in the way, which is why the original native teepee's had rods that sloped in like an multi 'a' frame. Good to try them out but deffo not for everyone, I recall cycling around Europe for a month freezing my ass off in one such type, a shangri la, I changed from a mesh inner to a solid, but is was still too cold and cumbersome. Though it was a palace, and was like a dungeon. BTW the down vote isn't mine, I always appreciate your work.

If you had to choose between the Duomid and Rab Summit Extreme in terms of which tent is the most quiet and stable under really harsh wind for sleeping through a fierce storm? And other than those two are there any other options that seem quite appealing for sleeping through the worst weather?

The answer is always “yes”
