@RandallWeeks

From over 3 decades shooting Stingers, and it being popular with most of my friends, I can say it has some reputation for frustrating people when grouping on paper. It's still plenty accurate enough for things like coon hunting, but it certainly throws more flyers than some others.
@russelsellick316
@russelsellick316 Год назад

@ThumpertTheFascistCottontail
I've tried stingers in a couple of CZ452's. These two rifles are very similar, the main difference being that one has a "standard" weight barrel, the other has a varmint barrel. The standard weight barrel literally shoots dinner plate sized groups at 50 meters, but the varmint barrel shoots as straight as a laser.

A couple of take away's for me... #1: I have been shooting CCI products, mainly mini-mags but also stingers, since the 70's. Reliable & consistent. I became familiar with Aguila during the pandemic. Effectively, in my area, it was the only ammo avail consistently during those couple years. I now have over 2000 rounds of each, the 40 grain, solid point, High Velocity & the 38 grain, hollow point, High Velocity. They are my GO-TO ammo for the 10-22. #2: Just how many couches has Paul skinned to produce all those meat targets??? Livin my best La Vida Loca here in south eastern Arizona

Have hunted with .22's for many years and compared to subsonic, and standard ammo, the Stinger is devastating on small game. The explosive affect of the increased velocity never ceases to amaze. The crack of the bullet is substantially louder than standard .22 however, so not neighborhood friendly. Switched to a PCP air rifle recently. Awesome for pesting when sound is an issue. Air rifles can be pellet picky for accuracy, so you have to experiment to find best type for your PCP rifle.

I've used a few different configurations of .22lr Aguila ammunition and have been pleased with its performance. However, I've only been using it out of pistols and revolvers shooting paper targets. But within that envelope, it has performed as well or better than the various CCI, Federal, Winchester, and SK I've also used, with the one exception being a couple trays of CCI Match Pistol 40gr LRN grouping better for me than all the rest. Your mileage may vary, but Aguila seems a bit like an underrated gem, given its typically lower price point.

I just hope Paul can get his meat, oranges, leather, shirts and fleece for a much lower cost Vs where I live. Curious the CG speeds were so similar, add in the fudge factor and call them all equal and thats seen in the meat target.

Lapua, RWS, Aquila, SK, Eley, Norma , Wolf, Federal and CCI. I stayed away from Remington and Winchester because they are so dirty. Considering the prices of the premium brand ammo they were very accurate. A comparatively consistent accurate and at a more affordable price was the plain old CCI Standard Velocity. I still have a lot of the Lapua, RWS, Aquila, SK, Eley, Norma and Wolf and CCI. The ammo I shoot today for hunting is the CCI Standard.

THEN the sound came up and I find out Paul's NOT only NOT shooting at 100, NOT 75, hell not even at 50, but at 25 yards:( I began remembering the one my brother bought, tried for about a week to get to shoot accurately, finally gave up, and gave the thing away. I thought to myself, 'oh well, same old 10/22.' Then, I involuntarily lapsed into my 'chit eating grin' as I had instead bought a Marlin 60. Still got it- still shoots like a champ. In all fairness to Paul, who can really shoot, NOT horrible results from one of those rifles. Gotta give Ruger marketing creds though..

Without reading the comments, I wanted to add: Those 21gr coppers are a SQUIRREL HUNTER'S DELIGHT! If they group in your rifle (and they group TIGHT through my 10/22 take-down "tactical" with the SS threaded barrel - as tight as anything else I have. One small hole does the job in and out with minimual meat or hide damage. So, why not just ball? Because I can't get it to group like these at 50 yards. I've even stretched it to 100 yards and know my bullet drop (they do get lost in the wind and will peeter out quiclkly so 50 is usually my max.) The only thing that compares is match grade ball. Back before these were called "Meat Eaters", CCI branded them with a different name and when they didn't sell like CCI thought they would, I bought 1000 rounds for 3 cents each. They serve one purpose and one purpose only for me: Squirrel hunting. A 3x9 low end Vortex optic with raised, "peep under" rings so I can use my irons, and this has become a good match for me. I have two other 10/22s and two Ruger Mark series pistols but only one with the optic and if I'm trying to see a squirrel at 50 in the shade, 7 or 8 power REALLY helps. As always, thanks for the great video, Paul. I"m a CCI Stinger (and now Velocitor) fan for life. I'm a few years younger than you so you and I both remember Stingers hitting the market in the 80's and I can't tell you how many good 'ol boys from north Clark County ( NOT Nevada. You know of which I refer) took camp meat does with a head shot (and even some hearts) with a 10/22 and Stingers to not attract too much attention, this was up in The Bern on the first day of the rainy elk season. A different time. I do miss those simpler days in the PNW but am glad I was able to flee to the Rockies before the two-state gun legislation fell apart. I have family still in the county and, oh what a mess and I hear their lamentations. Keep your chin up and remember, it could be California, New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Hawaii... I'm waiting for you and the crew to sell out and set up shop up in the Idaho Panhandle! At some point, I am guessing Oregon will limit your video content to such a small window, a relocation to a free state may be mandatory. Us Idahoan transplants (from 30 years ago) can only hope. Out.

Fabulous video as always Paul. I want to point out, if someone hasn't already, that the term "meateater" is a marketing term used by CCI on a series of ammo, not just the hypervelocity that Paul mentions here. You can look up the details for yourself. For example, I have a box of regular old Mini Mag 36 grain hp with "MEATEATER" and the meateater logo prominently printed on the box.

Stingers also have a slighly longer case, which is why they cant be used well in some guns and are often banned to be used in user instructions of guns

@@classicrider103 jeah but the case is slightly longer, some guns either dont chamber them right or some semis cant overcome the amount of friction the longer case has and tend to jam. which is why some operational manuals explicitly write not to use them. iirc this is the case for the ruger 10/22. EDIT: 10/22 manual page 20 shows the stinger as slithly longer than regular .22lr ammo and says not to use them in target and tactical versions

What a trooper . P H does a comparison video on 22 lr hyper ammunition . After doing one once on why he doesn't like hyper velocity ammo . Doesn't get any fairer than that .

What you are calling meateater is cci copper-22. Meateater is branded on several different rounds so it might be confusing to viewers. Great content as always Paul!

I'm surprised that from the rifle there was that much penetration from the expanding rounds. In any case, this (and the other .22LR videos from Paul) show that while not necessarily "ideal," a good .22 rifle with good ammo is not to be underestimated for self-defense/home-defense. Great video as always.
