Its super impressive that IBM Research puts out an insane number of patents and publications every year. IBM Systems (the product development division) though, is struggling to stay on the island of relevancy (Cloud and HPC).

Is IBM not presenting at hot chips this year? I didn't see them in the schedule I'd love to see more IBM content; they're severely underrepresented on RU-vid.

@7:45: Can I just say I absolutely hate how they used an already existing term (ASIC, as in Application Specific Integrated Circuit) for their coalition. It's really bloody dumb to try and take an existing term and trying to rename it.

Really? Engineers do it all the time. I actually think it's really clever given that their related. If you're confused as to which one is being referred to, that's usually given by context.

I dunno how i feel about the elitism that it basically requires. Is there more than just people with masters and stuff that can make something work there. I mean it’s not that 60 years ago there where only people from uni’s.. It sounded at least like it’s sort of a requirement even though that most of these uni’s are producing paper people.

I wish asic all the best. But the cynical part of me thinks this is merely a money grabbing ploy. If they were more serious then this organization should have been more thoroughly developed well before the chips act. But I suppose there’s not much we can do about that. We can’t expect the same level of cooperation like what Japan has shown during their semiconductor hegemony. It was government led too.
