What helps me with the phone is, give the phone also a place in your home. Like a Computer. So you go there to check something but then you leave it there again.
I’ve been watching your channel for nearly 4 years now, ever since I was pregnant with my son. I stumbled upon you while trying to feel less alone in becoming a new mother. You’ve been a huge inspiration to me in so many ways! I continue to put one of your videos on to get me motivated throughout the day, and your family keeps me company during the most mundane of tasks. I appreciate it so very much, truly 🤍 Much love from myself and my three-year-old, Atlas

Shifting my mindset ex. Be more optimistic and positive 19. Do a load of laundry every day 20. Work less 21. Be more social 22. Have mom and dad be in the frame more 23. Take care of my skin
My “theme” for 2023 is passion. Last year I focused on my mental health and getting my degree and i realized i only focused on that. This year i want to do things that i’m passionate about, no matter how small a thing. I want to learn piano, garden, do some pottery, draw, learn to cook and bake. I say passion because then it means it’s something i want to do and not have to do. i put a lot of pressure on myself when it comes to my hobbies and things i like, that i have to be perfect at it. but i am learning that if i love to do it, i just need to dive in and have fun. who cares if my food doesn’t turn out good, i put in the work and i learned on the way. i am not the best drawer but whenever i am bored i start to doodle and it’s a creative outlet for me. because i now do the things i’m passionate about instead of scrolling, i am becoming more confident in them and even enjoying the process
You always make me feel so calm, I have a 2 yr old and 13. And 11 yr old at 45…. I have no friends in common with me so I so enjoy your channel. Been watching since I was pregnant with my 2 yr old.
I recently heard it said that “we underestimate what we can do in a year and overestimate what we can do in a day.” I love your videos:) good luck, I FEEL these goals!
It is amazing how I have been thinking on these things as well! Almost everything on your list I feel the Lord has been leading me to also work on these things. Thank you for sharing with us, it is shuch an encouragement to hear. Always know you are a great blessing to those around you, close and not so close. 💗🤗
Two things that helped me start reading. 1) listening to audiobooks 2) Reading children's chapter books It may sound a little silly. But by starting with something that was easier for me to do, I was able to build up my attention span to read over time. : )
We are trying to go outside for 700 hours and it is allready been so wondefull to shift out mindset. We played in the rain today for an hour and it was so much fun.
I know exactly how you feel. My one year old brings me my phone whenever I’ve left it somewhere. Sometimes I feel so absent because I’m scrolling and yet I feel like I can’t stop
I actually teared up a little when you talked about William bringing your phone to nurse. I've been working on setting more boundaries with my own phone, starting with just no more scrolling in bed at night. Not even no phone, I still allow myself to play mindless games for a couple mins, just no more Facebook or Instagram to start. It's such a small step but it's already been so hard! I realized scrolling was becoming a problem when I caught myself repeatedly closing an app, opening another for a minute, and then closing it to open the one I just got off 🥴 it's ridiculous how much it's taken over my life!
I also have the complaining less on my list and it's been hard, I'm pregnant and due in a week and I can't stop complaining. It's a blessing, I love her so much but the pains and everything bother me at the moment... It's been hard but by the end of the year, I will have it under control. Last year I had not back lashing when someone was negative or said something offensive to me or my loved ones... they have an unresolved problem it's not about me most of the time so I just change the subject when it's my mom or just not say anything or walk away if it's anyone else not as important in my life. I never thought I could do it but I'm there. It took me half of a year but I'm so proud of that change and I'm so better for it. And complaining less will be harder but I can do it too, and I will be so much better at it because I don't want to be a grumpy old lady :D And you will get there too
Reading books you remember loving before is a great way to get back into the habit of reading. It’s something I’ve worked on over the past 6 months or so. (Coming from a homeschooling mom of 4 young children)
Well this was an awesome reminder for me. The first week of 2023 was awesome for me and the most healthy I had been in so long. Because of small goals I made for myself regarding screens. And then I let myself get back to binging first thing in the morning and everything derailed bad. So, this is God’s way of hinting I think ahahaha appreciate it 💕
i've been watching your channel for about 6 months now. As someone whos is college, but wants my future to be quite simmilar to yours, I loved this video. I agree with alot of your points, especially with the filling the silence with noice. I notice I do this alot, and my new years goal is to do this.
I recently began reading Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids by Dr. Laura Markham and so far I’ve really loved it! I’m about half way through & I’ve noticed myself implementing things I’ve learned in the book.
Usually, when I want to stop complaining. I basically empty my thoughts in a journal for 30 minutes or less, and leave it in the journal. And it’s done. It feels good to leave in the journal, but still let the stress go. Then you don’t think about it for the day, etc.
So many of these goals are on my list as well! I also noticed I would grabbed my phone before nursing as well, and so I just decided to start 2023 without any social media and it’s been the biggest blessing and bonding time with my 5mo old. Thank you for sharing!
A book I recommend is "The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry" by John Mark Comer. We read this for small group and it was very wonderful. Easy read and is convicting! Advice on slowing down, allowing God to move, and being okay with the silence! I think you'd love it.
A book that I have loved: Until we have faces, CS Lewis (it is fictional but it made me think about the way I experience my faith, so that was interesting.) I have been following you for a couple of years and now I have a 6 month old son, and your videos have helped me, inspired me, encouraged me and made me happy. What a beautiful list of goals you have made, i wish you Gods blessings and gentleness with yourself while you pursue the goals. Much love from the Netherlands!
Wow Delilah, what a beautiful and intentional video! It is as if I hear myself thinking. So much recognition. I wish you and your beautiful family all the best in 2023. ❤❤
Book suggestions!! For a young mom who also wants to learn new skills, grow in your relationships, and loves to read. 1. Nourishing traditions!!! 2. The temperaments God gave you 3. The temperaments God gave your kids 4. Any gardening books you can find for your specific zone Learning the 4 God given temperaments for yourself, your spouse and your children is the most life changing knowledge for us!!! Learn them and you will not be able to put them away!!
Thank you for the inspiring ideas, Delilah. Although, I want to share some things; I know you're a very busy wife and mother, and keeping some processed, ready-to-eat foods in your kitchen can be a life-saver for days you feel too tired or don't have enough time to make something from scratch. Secondly, instead of growing plants from seed, you would be amazed how quickly you could grow produce from kitchen scraps! I hope this is helpful and thanks again for the video, good luck!
book recommendations : ruthless elimination of hurry, holy hygge, simplicity parenting, get your life back by john eldrege. it can be so hard as a mom but these books are amazing!!!
If you feel like you don’t have time to read you could try out loud reading as a family. My dad used to read to us as we would play, color, etc. Even if it’s just something like Peter Pan it can be something fun for you and doesn’t feel like any sort of school work for the kiddos.
The very best book I read last year was “Heaven “ by Randy Alcorn. I never read it when it was popular so maybe you’ve already read it. I love it so much though. I don’t usually re-read books but I would that one. Also, I love these type of videos. All solid and good goals and has given me more ideas!
Two good books I've been recently enjoying are M is for Mama, by Abbie Halberstadt, and Silent Plan by Esther Kienitz. Both Non fiction but really good! Also, social media is something I really need to work on. Being on my phone WAY less, and being more intentional with being with my kids!
I started getting back into reading this last year! I was the same as you and read chapter books in a day in highschool. Then working and college and a family all happened and I lost it. So I decided to take my favorite book series that I could remember, and reread it. It helped me get back into the rhythm and the love of reading! That’s my suggestion. Then you can start reading intentional books after you love reading again
There was a girl I heard talking about how we hold our kids to higher standards than ourselves and I thought that was so true in every sense. I don't let my kids spend too much time on screens, eat unhealthy food, spend too much time without exercise - the list goes on!! And yet as a busy mom I let things slide way more often than I should... I let myself down! I loved listening to your New Year's resolutions, it has made me feel excited for the year to come and what I can do better! I want to hold myself to a higher standard than I hold my kids 😅😂
I agree with you I think most of us parents do this with our kids but I think In a way it’s good to teach them a better way of life than the one we as a parent live
Tip for getting back into reading that worked for me - read whatever you truly enjoy with zero shame. Don’t start by trying to read classics, non-fiction if that’s not your thing, etc. I realized I truly enjoy YA, so that’s what I read! I think that’s why we loved reading as kids - we read any story that gripped our interest without the pressure of what we “should” be reading.
Yes! This is how I got back into reading two years ago - I started with really trashy romances that were easy to read and got me hooked quickly. Once I built back up the skill of reading again it was so much easier to tackle non-fiction. I also recommend reading two (or more!) books at once, one fiction and one non-fiction, so you can reach for what you feel like in the moment rather than avoiding the one book you think you should be reading.
Hi Delilah, I’ve been watching your videos for several years now. You’re a wonderful inspiration for me as a mother and a wife :) I recently gave birth to my second child and was wondering if you can make a video of a lookbook for babies/toddlers? Cause your kids always dress super cute!! Or do a tips on baby/toddler clothes? I want to save some money on their clothes and want to know which clothes last or what type of clothes are good to splurge and save. 😊
If you do eventually want a fun fiction book to read I would highly recommend Anne of Green Gables if you haven’t already read it! I read it with my parents a few years ago and they both really enjoyed it! Their are so many good laughs and childhood reflections in it.
My word this year is “create”- more time for myself, more art, more movement in my body, more time for rest, a big garden, a space where I can have chickens, a fun environment for my kids, etc. First things to happen to me this year is that my daughter got a bunch of garden tools from family for Christmas, I found out I was pregnant (creating life), and three random chickens ended up in my yard (one has disappeared sadly, but hopefully we find her). It’s already a whirlwind of creativity for me.
Hi Delilah! Would LOVE it if you started a book club with us- I’ve been wanting to get back into reading but have the HARDEST time picking a book or finding books I’m interested in- this would be so fun!
Tears came to my eyes when you talked about your phone and nursing. Ive been there before and I know how it feels to see it a phone addiction through our Little Ones eyes. So many of your aspirations/ intentions made me feel seen bc I struggle with a lot of those personal things too, like being touched out, not feel joy, escaping through my phone, losing my love of reading. Something my FIL does (he’s a pastor and a very Godly man) that has greatly helped my complaining, is instead of complain about something he’ll pray out loud to the Lord. We live with my in-laws while my husband finishes his PhD, and it’s been so eye opening for me, a fresh Christian, to hear him have so much faith and trust in the Lord. For ex: the garage door button stops working randomly and he can’t open the door and he feels himself getting fussy, I can hear him say “Lord please fix the door”(something to that extent). He does this for EVERYTHING! Lost his book? Asks the Lord for guidance, can’t focus to write an email, prays to the Lord to help him focus, its consist and just who he. I can not say I am at his level but it’s been life changing to hear his dedication to Lord. I’ve even heard my two year old ask the lord for parking bc we couldn’t find any 🥹😮💨♥️ One last thing that has changed my heart is a book I finished last year called “Calm My Anxious Heart” by Lauren Dillow . The back of the book has questions and scripture references that we went through in a bible study group. We read a chapter and did the corresponding questions once a week. This book helped me understand that my anxiety was me trying to take control. It helped me learn to give my anxiety back to God. I share all of this to let you know you’re not alone with ANY of those relational struggles, and that you made me feel seen. But also to hopefully encourage you right back ❤
Yes when I heard that it reminded me of my son. He always brings me my phone. Whatever it is I'm doing. He'll say momma where's your phone and he'll go get it for me. He hears me ask myself where I put my phone all the time.
Your energy is so sweet and happy. You’re inspiring! Totally taking some of these goals and tweaking for my needs/ family too! I for sure want to master sourdough as well (have you seen the sourdough video released by new york times youtube video with claire Saffitz ? It rocks! Defintiely check it out) and I also want to start a garden from seed! I really love “The herbal companion” book for gardening tips/tricks & a ton on making your own herbal medicine/tinctures/salves… it’s really an amazing resources. Lots on gardening and starting from seed as well. I think you’ll enjoy it! Other parenting books I’ve enjoyed are “how to talk to kids so kids will listen”, “ 1000 hours outside” & unconditional parenting. Thanks for this uplifting & motivating video! Have a wonderful weekend :)
A book I'm reading and loving right now: Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family by Paul David Tripp. It's making me rethink my parenting attitudes and motives.
One book recommendation is Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full: Gospel Meditations for Busy Moms- by Gloria Furman, this book has been so insightful for me!
Hi Delilah! My favorite books are both written by Simone Davies: "The Montessori Toddler" and "The Montessori Baby". About parenting and helping our child growing the more independent possible. Love from France! Have a nice year with your loves one ❤️
Wooooow, I share so many of your goals for this year! It's crazy, and uplifting to know we're not the only ones that are working on these things. My husband and I were also discussing how we constantly feel 'full', like we don't have time to actually process all the information we put in our brains by scrolling our phones. So after watching Now That We're A Family's video on them being a screen free family (for family times) video, we made a VERY difficult disciscion. We deleted all our socials and our browser from our phones. Our phones are now smart dumb phones. We have a weather app, public transportation planner, messaging apps, an app on first aid, wikipedia and that's about it. It is HARD! I find myself not knowing what to do with my time SO often, it is very confronting, but at the same time, I have SO much more attention for my family, feel SO much more happy and rested. I feel like it's the holiday's, really! We can still watch video's and use socials, but we have to use our desktop computer. That small inconvenience leads to FAR less media intake and it's been very helpfull, but HARD, I admit. I have found myself reading a lot more, took up knitting a bunch more, getting outside with the kids more (even though the weather is very bad), and, embarrasingly enough, talk a lot more with my husband and we feel SO much more connected. We had a realy good marriage, but we find ourselves randomly kissing and complimenting each other a lot more. I honestly think ditching the browser and other time wasting apps was the best thing I did this year so far and I'm excited to see what more it will bring me after the discomfort weans.
Start with reading magazines 🙂. Like real paper magazines about gardening and home design... And make yourself really read the whole thing. I really love inspirational stories about real people, it motivates me.
Hey Delilah, from one sister to another, I am vegetable/flower farmer and I grow all my products from seed. You can always reach out to me with questions and tips and tricks if you need! 🥰
Hey Delilah, you know who you need to follow on RU-vid for reading: Darling Desi! She is the queen of books and her videos are so beautiful and aesthetic. I think she would be a good fit for you ❤.
For your growing season length pruning pepper plants is not likely to benefit you unless you start them really early indoors, I'm talking early March, and with peppers you'll need a heat mat for optimal germination (I used our bathroom's heated floors last year 😂)
A great resource for plant or topic specific gardening videos is migardener and his videos are generally pretty short and to the point. For THE best tomato growing guide and other Christian homesteading content check out Roots & Refuge
Also, Delilah, do you have a Goodreads account? I find that helps me SO much with finding new books to read from friends and authors I love! A few good books I read last year that you might like: Parenting: Brain Body Parenting by Mona Delahooke Fiction: The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer (WWII setting), Beach Read by Emily Henry (cute little sappy romance) NonFiction (Christian): Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers by Dane Ortlund If you do have/get Goodreads I'm sure we would love following you! Thanks for this beautiful, personal video. It was helpful to think for myself what I want to focus on this year!
Delilah, your channel is such a peaceful, wholesome corner of the internet ❤️ I feel like a lot of people look down on homemaking these days as not important or backwards. It’s so nice to see someone that loves nurturing their home. I have similar “resolutions” this year to add more recipes to my rotation, garden, read, and constantly improve my homemaking skills as a wife and mother.
I recommend this to everyone as a biblical counselor as well as just a Christian- “When People Are Big And God Is Small” by Ed Welch. It is so good and played a big role in my own healing from trauma! The Lord is good!
I love this video. YT sourdough shokupan and you will find the best sourdough sandwich bread and it's SO EASY! A lot of your list is so much like what we already do and still want to do. Making granola is definitely better for you and tastes better than the store bought. Good luck with all of this, especially strengthening your faith.
Loved the video today! Book rec: I think you might really enjoy Sally Clarkson’s Lifegiving Collection. It’s 3 books the Lifegiving Home, Lifegiving Table, and Lifegiving Parent. She did an interview on Simple Farmhouse Life podcast a few months ago that was great!
Delilah! You gotta read “finding the hero in your husband” It’s so easy to read/rebuking/encouraging! 10/10 would highly recommend every Christian wife to read.
Whoever said Anne of Green Gables, I second that! It’s a wonderful book (series) and very kid friendly. Super nostalgic. -Harry Potter series -Matilda -And Then There Were None -The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society -The Hobbit -Brave New World
I love your honesty and openness. I love your list so much. It has so much on it I would also love to do as well. One thing I do want to say is that it might be more attainable and maintainable if you baby stepped the list. So many of the things are HUGE goals. Things like a gardening from seed and making so much food from scratch. I feel they could be extremely overwhelming and self defeating. Maybe picking tomatoes or beans from seed this year and expand? Or replace one thing a month in your kitchen from scratch. I think that is how I would lie to do some of these wonderful ideas. Returning my husbands affections!!! YES!!! You nailed it with always thinking ahead. I needed to hear your words today. Thank you for sharing!!!!
She clearly said she'll work on these things all year but of course she won't make all these changing in a year. It'll will always be a work in progress and go into the next year. It's takes time to change, learn. Mistakes will be made.
Obviously the purpose of you clicking on this video was not to encourage in a part of your life where you may be failing . This is inspirational to not just her who wants to achieve this goals , but to us who may not have noticed what we need to change
My word this year is connect. Hoping to connect with my friends, family and RU-vid following more while also disconnecting from so much phone usage. Wow the addiction can be so real at times!
I do not know how to be in silence anymore. I fill the void too, with videos, music, and sometimes I stop and think "What did people do back when phones and TVs did not exist ?". Whatever they did, they made do without those things... so I guess I can too ^^
The phone situation 😭😭😭😭 I didn’t even connect that my 1 yr old twins bring me my phone if it’s not with me 😢 they bring it to me because they see how important it is to me 😭😭😭 yea I need to leave it in the room more etc.
Though all your thoughts, desires for change are valid and admirable just listening to your ‘list’ seems completely overwhelming to me and impossible for one woman to do and be all of that at once. It just seems like in a season of life with three young kids it’s ok to not have time to read, and make cheese from scratch and learn to sew and socialize a lot more etc. I’m not judging your ‘goals’, you know your heart, and life. I’m just praying you are being kind to yourself and not putting too much pressure on yourself to do and be ‘everything’. Almost like some unrealistic, perfect, Instagram, do it all and do it perfectly Mom, wife, homemaker etc. Some You-tubers that may be an encouragement/ inspiration to you is Madison Gray and Margret Matheny. both Christian mommas.
Book suggestion: The wisdom of the enneagram. It's a book about personality types, but it has exercises and other nice things. I see how much you love to see the personalities of the kids and it would be nice for you to understand yourself.
I love your ambition, it's addicting! Thank you so much for sharing, this was definitely helpful. I usually don't like doing the whole "New Year resolutions" stuff but this felt different. I hope you are able to achieve as many as possible throughout the year and beyond
