Ran the Maverick 23 miles offshore on an absolutely beautiful flat calm glassy ocean. Caught a dolphin, bonito (eaten by shark), and jacks. Underwater footage of bull shark eating bonito, manta ray, and snook. Eventful day.

Not everybody knows what's up with them Bucktail jigs for dolphin. I have three rods rigged up with a jig and three more rigged up for cut or live bait. Nice video dude for being by yourself.
@straightouttajupiter
@straightouttajupiter 2 года назад
Personally I think you can fire them up with any lure if they haven't been too pressured that day. I like the bucktail cuz I can cast it a mile, let it sink, jig or rip it in - Basically cover distance and finesse them to strike it. Thanks for the comment.

Hi, what is that little tool you used to unhook that jack you caught?
@straightouttajupiter
@straightouttajupiter 2 года назад
Just a basic dehooker - metal rod with a bend at the end. I lost the one used in the video but there are many other brands. Thx

Great video. I'm in the market for a flats boat, but I skeptical living on long island. How are they in choppy water/deep. Can I but my family on it in the bay ? Do you they take on a lot of water with boat traffic?
@straightouttajupiter
@straightouttajupiter 3 года назад
I've had the maverick 17 and 18. They are both great boats - obviously the 18 a little more stable than the 17. Both handle 1-1.5 foot chop fine. I would not want to be in any bigger waves. They both take waves over the bow, stern and gunnel when not on plane. Make sure bilge pump is working as they are not self bailing. There's another video of me running the 18 and I am going to post one soon of me running in the 17 hpx-v - if you want to check them out.

Hey just curious on what time of year is best to fish for dolphin? I’ve got a release 20 and I’ve been wanting to get offshore, also how do you go about picking your days to run offshore?
@straightouttajupiter
@straightouttajupiter 3 года назад
summer for sure especially for small boats cuz glassy calm days are more frequent. I pick days solely on wind and weather ... if glassy with not thunderstorms, I go out there.
@teddobol
@teddobol 2 года назад
I fish out there in a 17 action craft. May and june id say are the best two months. Definitely pick your days.
