My son and I were invited to attend the Four Wheeler Magazine Overland Adventure 2021 and there were so many well build overland rigs on the trip and in the video I take you around camp for a close up look of some of the new, old, budget and well built vehicles.

I have a Toyota Hiace(ex Japanese fire truck) and they are amazing, 5.13 gears, non turbo 2.4, and 34 mpg, and big on the cool factor. I never brought one over with more than 10,000 Km, or 6,000 miles.

Really cool… actually there is a lot of aftermarket support for G-wagens and you can build them however you want. And they are also dead reliable, especially the older ones. They are just misunderstood

15:20 my dad went to high school overseas in Japan we just found one of his annuals in the barn it’s been lost 57 years I used to subscribe that magazine when I was a kid and some dirt bike magazine He won’t believe this but I am the proud owner of a 2000 jeep xj stock

As a Aussie who's been touring the country since the 80's I can tell ya, I wish we had those big Ford vans over here, the sportsman. They would make a ripper tourer (overlander) I reckon.

couldnt agree more. The mitsi delica or troopy is the closest we get. troopys start at 80k for a bare shell and are no where near as roomy as those vans, then need 20k of alucab roof rear track correction, lift etc before there anywhere near ready. For such an popular pastime youd think one of the manufacturers would have made something like a 4wd van as it has many uses in mining etc if it was roomy but not too big and rock sold offroad and reliable.. Iveco make a van 4x4 i think but too unreliable and not sold here either.

@@deancarr4507 Saw many of those in Iraq. My work (running around the base) truck was a RHD HiLux. 4 cyl diesel. I wish I had one now. Been looking for a bit at used 4x4, but the demand is high, as are the prices. Fortunately, I have a Tacoma. Mostly stock.

@@caseysimpson1806 I never got to Iraq, we bounced around several countries but the war was pretty much over. We saw a lot of those landcruisers, many with hummvee turrets on top that looked extremely top heavy and precarious to drive. All diesel RHD stick shifts. Windows were about an inch thick. Still want one. Guess my 5.0 Ranger will do for now. Love those tacomas though.

@@deancarr4507 Rangers have excellent aftermarket support. Sustainment from NAPA. I love the vehicles in these videos; however, it is easy to obsess about equipment. I still sleep in a tent, but I have excellent hiking boots!!!

Amazing to see a Land Rover Perentie at Moab. Built exclusively in Australia for the Australian Army to their spec. Heavy-duty galvanized chassis with lift points at the corners for helo transportation. Isuzu 3.9 4cyl diesel, constant 4wd on coils. Some were fitted with a pto winch. There is also a 6X6 version! The army here are in the process of replacing them with Mercedes G wagons as the Perentie's have been in service since the 1980s. Very capable rugged vehicles.

Brad, I was pleased to see a Taxaoutdoors trailer, the Tigermoth, in your group. I almost went with the TM, but wound up going with their Cricket model. I liked the inside kitchen and standing room of the Cricket. Of course, the Cricket is a little less trail capable than the TM, but still a nimble little unit. Still hope to see a Cricket join your adventure sometime (I have one AND a 2013 JKU: hint/hint).

Brad, I am curious why we have not seen many Chevrolet Colorado's or GMC Canyon's at these types of events? Have you heard any negative things about them for overlanding and/or off-roading? It may just be a simple answer as there just wasn't anyone on the trip who had one, but again, just wondering if they aren't as popular or reliable as the other vehicles you've shown.

I have a one of those fire trucks type of vehicle. Mine is a customized truck where the back tray is lifted. It has a bull bar and almost looks identical to the one seen in this video, except it's white colour. I'm currently working on it to make it the coolest daihatsu delta around. Although, it's not a 4x4 although, I would love to convert it to a 4x4 and do a lap of Australia as this is where I live.

I puked a little when i saw that land cruisers vortec swap. I mean vortecs are nice engines but the 4l or 4.2l diesel turbo straight six is amazing plus you can mod it quite nicely if the powr isnt "enough"..

Those land cruiser fire trucks are dirt dirt dirt cheap. One was forsale in Portland over the summer for 12,000 with 35k miles

The more i see of the Gladiators, the more i like them. I know they aren't selling, and their values are plummeting, but to me that's a good thing. I'll wait a little while and pick one up a couple years old. I don't buy my vehicles for their resale value, so i'm not too concerned about future value. If i get lucky, maybe i'll find one with a diesel too.

Hey Brad, have you heard of the auxiliary battery going bad on wranglers? I have a brand new jeep and it wouldn't start. The dealer said the auxiliary battery failed and drained the primary battery. I've never heard of this.

The more I see these rigs the more I see I want to build my own custom rig with a 8x8 chassis. A TDI or Toyota Diesel with the Hybrid Powertrain would be the best as things like Axles would be a LOT lighter. You also get much more ground clearance. Similar to the HUMVEE setup. You also don't have to worry about Axles. You have TONS of TORQUE right where you need it. I like a large and wide truck, so I would want to also cut down on Top heavy-weight. A Polystyrene, E-fiberglass composite for the body or Kevlar would be ideal since it also does a good job at thermal insulation. That way you have a Large Structure that would not play to much of a role for your center of gravity. Lexan windows for anything but the windshield wound also be ideal or Polycarbonate. That would also cut down weight, and would also take impacts.

Was wondering if you had any resources for RAM off road/overlanding manufacturers or fabricators? Some of them in this video had some cool mods on them like nerf bars and bed racks. I am a RAM owner and having trouble finding any companies that make gear with RAM fitments, its all Toyota and Jeep.

There aren’t many manufacturers making Overland accessories for Ram Trucks, especially the third Gen trucks like mine. The rack is a Yakima Outpost HD. Technically universal, but well built and sturdy. The nerf bars, AKA sliders on my truck were custom fabricated. You have to get creative with a Ram. But you can buy just about anything for a Tacoma, 4Runner, or Wrangler. 🤷‍♂️

I'm based but I liked seeing the two gobi colored JKUs (same color as mine). Truth be told my fav was probably the 50s Jeep (Willys? Kaiser?). Was that a CJ-6 around the 12:50 mark? Pretty sweet looking setups.

You guy's bring way to much crap into the wilderness. You miss the whole point of getting away. It's actually to the point of being offensive and now you people are causing traffic and congestion on the trails. Next time try using a map n compass, bring a tent and cooler. Have an actual adventure. Make do.
