My new Web site is: www.lelandsklarsbeard.com. The new book is there and lots of goodies in the works... Here are the directions to my new club house if you want to come and hang. flatfiv.co/pages/lees-clubhouse
I think the line starts too early. During the sax solo, it should have been just fundamentals. Then when the vocal comes in again, the line sounds perfect.👌🎸
Leland , I am a guitar player, but I have so much respect for you. You are a walking legend but also a very cool down to earth dude, thank you for all youve contributed to music man.
The definitive version for me is that one from Berlin 1990. The Leland cam is ace. Like you said its really intense, the band is incredible. Daryls solo at the end is amazing.
A true legend...inspired me into music. Duke and seconds out. Trouble is when I saw Chester Thompson live and thought “ he’s better than Phil?” pretty soon I was listening to weather report...lol then I became a mere mortal again!
@@starlightsign8666 listen to Phil playing the lamb live and then come back to me and say Chester is a better drummer?! Both of them are in the drumming stratosphere along with Neal Peart and more recently Gavin Harrison.
Marcdoubleu22LFC ... I have a worn cassette of the lamb... Agreed! Selling England was also a master piece! I only saw them once at Hammersmith on the ABACAB tour...Chester blew me away that’s what I mean, and I got into Jazz as a result....right down the rabbit hole!
Lee's like a mix of the weather channel, your uncle, your best teacher and a dear friend: you just want him to keep going until everything is over... It's not that he's the best in music, it's that you feel comfortable with him in EVERYTHING. Just thanks!
The guitar solo at the conclusion of this song was immense. The pedal was just right, the chord progressions were to become immemorable and the picking was to kill for. One of my favorite tunes.
Fully agree. I used to play bass. Those who don't recognise bass as an essential instrument try listening music for long time where you have remove the bass from the song...that'll be a terrible feeling even after a few minutes...
Leland! I want to see you doing another play along video. I would very much like to see you throwing down just as you did in that live video on RU-vid, where, unfortunately, your bass it's difficult to hear because of the mix! Please do this for me! You are at the top of my faves list!
What an amazing career you’re enjoying, but what’s just as amazing, if not more amazing is your humble recognition of just how amazing it is. Love watching you play and the almost reverence you bring to your playing. It’s no wonder you’re a sought after musician. Thanks again for sharing so generously your time, talent and experiences with us. Stay safe and stay well!
Mr Skylar, you are a light in the darkness, the calm in the eye of a storm. You are an ubiquitous presence throughout my life of enjoyment of music. You are the Zen Master of common sense. You are the epitome of humanity through your passion, caring, kindness and empathy. Thanks.
Nice Chord changes....Phil Collins knows how to pick the correct chords(G/Bb/G/A) FOR THE VERSES and using the bridge based off F natural with roots, fifths, and octaves is very cool...
There really isn't a song that I don't like from Phil Collins. However this one is at the top of my all time favorites. It's a great pleasure to watch these uploads. Thank You!
You played Inside Out at the Berlin, But Seriously Concert back in 1990 I listen and watch it all the time absolutely love it .Take care bud , Neil from 🇦🇺🇦🇺 Aus.
What I love about your channel, and you, Lee, is your sincere and total positivity. With nothing but good to say about the myriad musicians you’ve played with over the decades, have you just forgotten the inevitable a-holes, egotists and prima donnas, successfully avoided them, or just chose to ignore them? Whichever, it’s fun to listen to you reminisce about the wonderful, talented musicians and others you’ve encountered throughout your career. It’s a soothing antidote to the pervasive negativity that has regrettably become the norm these days. For me, watching old videos of live performances and seeing you standing back there, quietly doing your thing without any “hey look at me” fanfare, is both comforting and inspiring. You let your talent speak for itself. Thanks for just being you and sharing yourself with us.
I fell off my room just over 3mnths ago, being that I've been a Phil Collins tragic I've followed Phil,Genesis and all of the musos that he played with.So it was with pure joy that as I lay in hospital for the next 3mnths I discovered the amazing Leland Sklar, and it's been a pure joy to wake up every morning in Oz land and indulge into them great stories you tell.I've got along way to go but I'll have your stories to get me thru. Thanks legend.🙏
I may have just found this vid this morning, but I LOVED listening and watching you play, Inside Out, is simple, but one of my fav Phil songs period......sometimes simple songs are the MOST deep/rewarding to enjoy, TY sir!!...just lovely!!!😊
There’s a point in the live video of this song towards the end where Lee is submerged in the groove and Chester starts going off, after one of his killer fills , you can see Phil break a smile at Chester. Pretty cool
I love these videos because i absolutely can hear the bass so clearly in the official video once I've listened to Leland play...i just love seeing the skill and dedication that goes into making some of the best music ever
This is so, my happy place...wife couldn’t understand why I looked forward to this everyday..then she watched a few, and after “you know more about music, but I gotta say..he’s a really good person”...she’s right, but she was also amazed that she knew more of your work than she could have imagined, when I read a list.
Bro that bridge part or C part or whatever.......so damn beautiful! I'm a guitar player but it's parts like this and how they hold the song that make me love playing bass!
This is really nice bass you invented for "Inside Out". Very melodic and smooth esp on higher slides and octaves. I picked up a dark brown Yamaha bass that looks similar to the one you played in the video. I just have to wear a loose 2-piece black suit with the longer jacket. (Johnny Cash) and play this bass on stage. A very good look you had in that video.
Lee, I wore the "No Jacket Required" CD out- driving to my 1st computer science job & going to grad school afterward for my Comp Sci MS, then going home. Smartphones and apps like RU-vid weren't a gleam in our eyes yet. I never knew, 35 years later, that I'd feel like I had a YT friends group you led that told me all about that CD and everything else you've done. My 24 yo's head would have exploded if I could go back and tell her how computers changed, how music changed- and importantly, how it stayed the same. Thank you. Peace. ❤
I play that Lee Sklar bass cam video all the time. Your amazing, you guys looked like you had a great time on stage. I also love watching the Chester Thompson drum cam to this song. This is totally surreal watching you play this AWESOME song again. Thank you for starting this channel. Love and Respect!
A friend was a HUGE Phil Collins/Genesis fan...turns out he became a big wig in Hollywood and worked with Phil. Said you usually do not want to meet your heroes...except for Phil Collins! He was and is the real deal...BEST personality he worked with to this day! Phil even gave his young son a drum kit!
That's the true test of parental love especially if you have a working class home and cramped for space. Of course for Phil, space is not a problem. I understand Phil's mental hardship as it relates to hi s medical issues. He's has such a huge fan base and he's always been a performance monster, I said MONSTER! It's a difficult row to hoe, all he really wants to be is the unbeatable, uncompromising force he's always been in the past. It's been difficult for myself also, seemingly being forced to regress into the movements of a child, unlearning all the competence that you've had for so many years.
@@geoffnorton9279You would do well to trust the advice of the science and medical communities as they also are challenged by novel discoveries, novel diseases, and not the loud cries of uninformed people.
One of my favorite Phil songs. You make it look so effortless. You must have an immeasurable amount of synapses devoted to hundreds and hundreds of different songs, with all the artists you have played with! Unreal!
So interesting because Lee is such an earthy bassist and Phil's music was associated with 80s sheen. Now it all seems so meant to be. Guess it always was.
"But I got the call...." Lee, you have such an understanding of theory and such an outstanding feel, it's obvious to me that you were the guy to call. I love your playing and your influence on contemperary music.
Thanks Mr. Sklar You are filling my life with so much happiness. I found this channel a few days ago and have just to say you are so awesome. Outstanding. The music in these days is nothing for me. The music of the "past" simply has "this kind of beat" I need. I could sit the whole evening in my chair and just listen to you and what you do. Thanks man🤟🙌
On the vid of you playing with the band on this song there's some fancy finger work it seems. I'd love to hear that. I love how you move when playing. You become more than a musician. Stellar..
Hi Leland I like this song a lot. I saw the video Leland Sklar Cam - Inside Out (live 1990) on RU-vid. It gives a different perspective on concerts. I wonder if you can tell a bit about what it feels like being on the stage and playing the song live? It must be very special to listen to the world’s best songs and then at the same time realise that you are actually playing the song your self together with the world’s best musicians. And to share that moment with the all people in the audience. It must be a very very special feeling, I imagine.
LOVE this song off of one of my all time favorite albums. No Jacket Required was the first CD I ever bought back in the day. Thank you for playing this today!
I always have to remember to hit the snare throw-off on my drum kit before listening to these. If I don't, I get reminded to really quickly when they start vibrating. But between this channel and Tom Bukovac's I can get some positives out of this whole messed up situation! Thanks!
Hello Leland. You are magnificent. The more I watch your videos, the more fan I get. I've been an amateur guitarist for over 50 years, but I'm currently playing double bass in the church! I think it's an extraordinary instrument. I really like the bass sounds! Hugs and a happy new year. Health and peace to you and your whole family! My name is Gilmar from Brazil!
The clerk at my store asked a customer to put his mask OVER his nose and mouth as the guy started complaining he noticed that EVERYONE in ear shot was staring at him.. he raised his mask at that point. Public pressure works! I was glad to see the clerk flex his influence. I'm glad to hear you don't allow handlers to touch Frankenstein, that would be tragic to lose. Thanks as usual Lee for your stories and songs! One World, Let's not destroy it!
Ive enjoyed this channel so much since i found it. I follow Lee on Insta (i left FB but followed him there as well). Just amazing to watch a first call professional give 100% at all times. And be intelligent and informed in real life as well. Im a guitarist who loves to play bass as much as guitar and Lee really inspires me to commit to the song and serve it. Thanks so much Lee!
THANK YOU! hi Leland, i've been waiting so long your revisiting of this fantastic song, one of phil's solo career best ever in my opinion. Phil with magnific artist musicians as you, daryl, chester, ecc has defined some of the best album ever and great live performances. An era of IMMORTAL SONGs!
Can’t tell you how much joy the music of Genesis and then Phil’s solo career brought me. I remember seeing you in some of the music videos Phil put out back in the day. Other than the hair color Lee, you really haven’t changed much. Thank you for this channel, thank you for the “behind the scenes” trivia.
